  1. I think the handling of fresh chicken - i.e. the chicken industry in Britain - operates in a totally different way there than here because the agricultural laws and handling regulations are totally different. As far as why there - Poplar Springs and 278 - just stop in to Aldi's just a few hundred yards west of there on a Saturday. I won't go on Saturday because that place is packed and you're always in long, time-consuming lines to get out. I think they must have three times the business of the Aldi's on Powder Springs and that place is busy and profitable. They've also probably re
  2. I don't doubt that. These issues are, in cities, typically confined to a four to 10-16 block area. This localization of the violence is what is used to demonstrate the 'viral' nature of the events. Cmorg: No one 'blames the weapon' in the way that mean. That said, the hand gun is the preferred weapon for murder because, well, it is so damn efficient. I mean it is small and concealable meaning you can appear against your target in a surprise attack. The target's ability to flee is also compromised as the distance a bullet can travel accurately almost instantly is measured in y
  3. Trump, who is on track to spend as much on 'vacation and weekend' travel in his first year than Obama spent in eight years, is unique in that he's staying at resorts he owns meaning that not only is the taxpayer paying for the president but the president is personally pocketing the cash we pay - something that has never been done. pubby PS: I expect the profits Trump will make from using his golf clubs and resorts will surpass the Obama's net worth before his first term is done. (Remember, not only do we pay for Trump but also the secret service, the guy with the nuclear football, the
  4. GD above, criticized those on the left for bringing children/family members into the criticisms aimed at Trump. I think the reason they are there is they are in the white house or running the Trump business (sort of) and in many ways profiting from the presidency. This is unprecedented. Hell, relatives of previous presidents were roundly and totally castigated by the press and opposition for trying to capitalize on the presidency. Remember Billy beer??? And this president participates and provides advice. There is some discussion that one reason for his favoring the Saudi's, who
  5. You know people in public health have determined that your notion you could see this coming was right. Surprised? What has been determined is that gun violence spreads through communities very much like a viral outbreak. Using the analogy of a body to a state, an outbreak like is happening in Baltimore is like an infected zip on your butt. It is an issue but like gun violence every where, it seems to be following a specific pattern. Notably, the NRA has taken umbrage at this kind of research - all types of research in fact - and prohibits the collection and study of such violence
  6. Mrs. G. What is the name and where? pubby
  7. Nothing justifies the act by this guy. Violence is to be condemned in the harshest possible way. In an effort to understand what may have moved him, I offer this bit after I've been listening to some of the folks who saw the incident and had seen him around the YMCA at the park in the weeks prior to today's incident. I'm guessing this the key motive in this incident is a suicide by cop effort, maybe in response to a health issue. I'm thinking he expected there was greater security surrounding them than there was. I mean who wouldn't think that strong NRA backing Republican congressmen wo
  8. But the ignorance that it acts upon is massive. pubby
  9. Actually, there are some who think the not terribly subtle effort to profit from the presidency through ignoring the emoluments clause will bring down this administration. Quite a long article in New York Magazine explores this issue here. pubby
  10. The number of donors is key in determining the amount of influence purchased. I think what largely fueled Ossoff's record fundraising was a multitude of upset small donors who saw this race, compared to similar special elections in rural Montana and Kansas; as the best shot at sending a message to Trump. There is a pretty good chance of that message being sent, if only because the circumstances surround Donald Trump seem to favor Democrats more every day. pubby
  11. I think it just states the general level of elitism that pervades those who are beholden to those with immense fortunes that fund the majority of political races nationwide. pubby
  12. TP: She's a toady and a tool. IMO, a rather pathetic character. pubby
  13. I can't go there TP ... This is because conservatives are simply resistant to change. Tyrants aren't conservative, though they may masquerade as conservatives or liberators or socialists. What makes tyrants different is they seek ruthlessly seek power and dominance and subscribe to the notion that might and might alone, makes right. pubby
  14. The setting of a minimum wage is a nuanced issue subject to compromise. This topic is not really about that subject. Rather it is about the adherence to an ideology that proclaims that conservatives don't believe in a livable wage. It is the optics of that statement. Even uttering the words "conservatives don't believe in a livable wage" exposes the depth of elitism in such a way that throws out the idea of even today's totally inadequate minimum wage ... or any wage law. I think we all know, deep down, that 'conservatives' of today would LOVE it if everyone, other than themselve
  15. Drug Arrests/Stolen Property Recovered on Silverthorne Circle (Paulding County, GA) On Thursday June 8, 2017 Deputies with the Paulding County Sheriff’s Office responded to 786 Silverthorne Circle Douglasville, GA 30134 which is in southern Paulding County reference a report of drug activity at the residence. Upon arrival, Deputies met with the occupants of the home and detected a strong odor of marijuana emanating from the residence. Responding Deputies then contacted Agents with the Haralson-Paulding Drug Task Force (HPDTF) who responded to the scene. After a short while, HPDTF Agent
  16. Zorro From the above I can surmise Conservatives do not believe in a livable wage ... except for themselves. There are some who would say that makes the GOP the party of exploitation. pubby
  17. I can saw without fear of contradiction, considering her rejection of Obamacare and the likely outcome of the republican alternatives and that is she doesn't give a damn about whether 24 million plus people die for lack of healthcare. pubby
  18. After Jon Ossoff gave a reasoned and nuanced answer to a question about the livable wage, Karen Handel said that was the difference between liberals and conservatives and as a conservative she does not believe in a livable wage. Unbelievable. Apparently she is okay with slave wages pubby
  19. I take it this is in remembrance of Adam West who died at age 88 today. pubby
  20. Some recognize that fossil fuels are to society what heroin is to an individual. In that context, let me re-write your post. There is nothing wrong with people who are addicted to expensive prescription pain pills trying to buck the market and staying with these even if it means paying more and more doctors for the prescriptions. It is certainly one way to get high but if people understand that getting high is the purpose and close their eyes to the vast amount of heroin awash in the streets and don't take advantage of these great deals offered by illegal drug dealers, it is their fault.
  21. The choice of the DNI and CIA Director at the hearings on Wednesday who refused to answer questions about whether they had been pressured to shut Comey's investigation down with a legal basis implies their reasoning was based on threat of their jobs by the Trump administration that was too gutless to invoke executive privilege. Indeed, the admiral admitted that there may well be no legal justification for his refusal to answer the question. I would have paid money if one of the senators asking questions had asked, "Since there appears to be no legal reason for your refusal to answer this
  22. Not perfectly said. In the case of Clinton and Loretta Lych; Comey seeing the problem did the most damaging thing he could considering that the case against the secretary was not that strong ... i.e. he prosecuted her for her failings publicly and the democrats, while they continued their political support for Clinton, didn't insist that Obama fire Comey. Most democrats felt that what Bill Clinton did was stupid and didn't say much about the encounter other than it was stupid. The reality is that most Republicans say that what ever Trump does is 'brilliant, bigly, and at worst, stu
  23. I would go to an autoparts store. They may have some solvents that you can use to desludge the carburetor. Beyond that, find the engine and or carburetor and check amazon or ebay for a replacement. Then go on youtube and see what is involved in taking the carburetor off and cleaning it. pubby
  24. Here is the official background release on Wray as published in the Daily Mail reached from Brian's link: As far as the question of who he is; here is another take on the man from the Palmerreport: I doubt if his confirmation will be a quick slam-dunk; particularly when you remember the name was offered in what many consider an announcement made more for its strategic timing. pubby
  25. This topic is about the cop turned congressman who offered the opinion that we ought to kill them all. Those are the words of a demagogue, not a politician. Notably, politician comes from the root word "politic" ... There is nothing shrewd, prudent, tactful or diplomatic. While it may be contrived, there is no practicality or shrewdness about it if you discount the public value of inciting a riot, which most sensible people do. This leads me to wonder if the GOP is in any way a political party; and if they are not, what is it? pubby
