Where is Holder, Sharpton, Obama on this?
gpatt0n replied to cookies are sweet's topic in RECENT TOPICS
That wasn't my solution. All I suggested is that in a situation like that, it is not realistic to expect a community so depressed, to raise themselves by their bootstraps. Since you're so perceptive sound guy, what is your solution ... carry everywhere? increase the violence and figure that the attrition will remove the bad eggs? pubby -
First off, I didn't determine that. Second, welcome to BIG DATA ... See, the NSA is not the only folks that are gobbling up the cookies on your computer (when they are set, not searching your computer directly.) Big data sucks in the information and using a variety of analytical tools (like the NSA) big data firms are able to ascertain that you were looking at VOIP phones and all you see when you go anywhere are ads served by google adsense offering to sell you VOIP phones. (I did this search so when I go to xfinity or yahoo or the NYTimes or Denver Post ... about anywhere ... all I

Next week or so! OMG, the sky is falling, the sky is falling, the sky is falling ... tell me it isn't so chickenlittle ... I mean markdavd! Since I know saying it ain't so is not in the conservative playbook - you just seek to change the subject ... Why don't you say that before election day your quack said on some rightwing radio talk show - you know that woman from that high-sounding quack organization - there is a conspiracy to bring in 100,000 ebola infected people they've brought from west Africa to Mexico so they can decimate the American population. First, west Africa is more Ch

Looked her up ... found her on the rationalwiki and also quackwatch: Here is the Rationalwiki entry. Organizations such as this serve the political interests of those seeking official sounding sources for junk science. pubby Even wikipedia's entry of the group notes the group's political orientation and lack of rigorous adherence to truth.

And viruses 'evolve' ... I know that those folks don't believe in evolution but hey, it happens and happens quickly in viruses. One small, minor mutation a virus can become instantly more contagious. Given their rejection of science from evolution to climate change to human reproduction, I certainly wouldn't consider them expert in communicable disease or biology. No doubt it was 'there' but the mutated version then was simply not as communicable ... or maybe was not as likely to make those infected as sick. I would have thought folks realized how these things worked from the d

I'm sure they would be if the cops were doing the shooting. Thank God they're not I don't doubt the diligence of the Miami police and in fact the NYTimes article cited increase police presence. The problem appears 50 years of increasing poverty, conflicts between blacks and those from the Caribbean, high unemployment, non-performing education and a general depressive state based on the crumbling bonds between residents and the apparent effort to escape the hellish circumstance through drugs. In short the community seems bereft of hope and with no programs to change the trajectory, th -

I would never accuse those promoting the Republican agenda of pulling it out of thin air but it doesn't change the thrust or direction of the policies presented. And frankly, I don't think Obama - or even Clinton (Mrs.) are much about changing the direction although I HAD higher hopes of the former over the latter; hence my choice in the primary in 2008. pubby -
Politics is a hot-button topic on Paulding.com and the importance of the publics' business in its forums is pretty much a given. However, a new 'metric' studied by the Internet metric's firm Quantcast.com shows that the subject matter does have traction ... and importance amongst local readers. Below are two charts. The first ... political affiliation shows that Pcom's audience is actually largely independent. The more important chart, though is the one that establishes that of the average 20,000 monthly visitors, participation in the political life of the community is bro

Actually, I believe it was you who was brainwashed into believing that all conservatives are upstanding, Christians who never sinned. That I disagree simply means that I believe perfection eludes us all. (not what you said.) pubby -

First, I'd never heard of the guy. I'm not revolutionary nor do I run in such revolutionary circles or buy the revolutionary tripe. Second, having read just a bit on the case, I'm only about 70 percent certain on his conviction. There was substantial circumstantial evidence in favor of conviction but there was also a plausible third party; (a person riding in the car), the witnesses that sealed the conviction were likely tampered with as was his alleged confession. Still, the guy was shot by I mean this was Philly - and the guy had a reputation as one of those revolutionaries that t -

That's funny but considering that the blue states tend to be more productive than red states, I think pubby I'd say the man has an obligation to restore trust before that happens. pubby PS: I think trust starts with adopting policies that say we're all in this together and we're all going to make it through this together. It is a social ethic that isn't based on gaming the system and more for me all for me. Justice, in other words.

mrshoward: Sounds like GWB had a direct connection with the pre-cogs in "The minority report" ... The Bush Doctrine of preemptive attack was and is a bad policy, particularly when combined with hubris, arrogance and dreams of empire. However its primary logical failure is that it substitutes force for diplomacy which is what cast us as shoot-from-the-hip cowboys during the Bush administration. The agenda of the GOP is perpetual war and they'll foment religious strife, racial strife, fear of terrorism and who knows what else to enact that agenda. What we do know is the agen -

Public health law can be pretty draconian. Just ask Typhoid Mary who, because of her insistence on being a cook, was basically quarantined for the rest of her life. The public health authority allowing quarantine is lodged in the secretary of HHS by an executive order signed and authorized by GWB in 2003 and authorizes the quarantine of persons to prevent them from either entering the USA or to prevent their travel from state to state under the Commerce Clause of the Constitution. To wit: Intrastate quarantine is used to limit the movements of those who are infected or who, by

That is the problem with you guys; there are always several motivations. I suspect much of the adventurism in the middle east during the Bush Administration was predicated on ensuring dominance in the west over access to the oil in the region ... and was one of the primary reasons for the Iraqi invasions. Afghanistan was secondary but because that is where Al Queda had its HQ, the Bushies had to attack there because the American people, eager for revenge, would not understand not going after them there. The other option - justice - which might have been accomplished if the Bushies had o -
Mojo: I'm sure that in the throws of a conversation with a pro-airport person the politician in them came out and they ducked the question by saying they hadn't made up their mind. When pinned down in talking not with an avid proponent, but the press, they stated publicly their stand unabashed against commercialization. Expect such contradictions whenever talking with politicians. pubby

Do you deny that going after Osama Bin Laden in his haven in Afghanistan was based on bringing him to justice? Is revenge not the justification for punishment - particularly the death penalty? (I mean if you execute someone for their crimes, it pretty much rules out 'rehabilitation' as a motive. pubby -
A ray of hope. Nigeria, a country of 177 million in the middle of this Ebola outbreak, is not reporting that the virus has been contained. Apparently, Nigeria, which is wealthier than Guinea, Liberia and Sierra Leone - the epicenters of this outbreak, was quick to institute controls and using public health workers, tracked down 900 or so 'contactees' of the individuals who had been confirmed and put them under observation. With the last known case being reported on August 31 and those contactees being clear of the disease as of the last couple of days, they say that the outbreak has be

The original case was brought in 2005 or 2006 so the probation ended several years ago. The nature of the cases were totally different as well. I mean Paulette hates taxes so much - and this was never a criminal matter mind you - that she was seriously delinquent on paying payroll taxes of her employees that she withheld. She hated corporations so much she welched on a deal for three quarters of a million dollars with Xerox and wouldn't pay the judgments against her even after having been found in contempt of federal court. Ms. Fuller's greatest sin was the vindictiveness and power of

The question is How vulnerable is your state to the zombie apocalypse? Here is how you determine that, count the number of Republican members of the state legislature, multiply by 10 and if the product is greater than 100, you're SOL. I actually did that once on St. Patrick's when we sponsored a fair with a dunking machine. I was to be dunked and it was a nice 65 degrees but the water was cold like it is in the spring. Put on Vaseline and then wrapped myself and then put on clothes as I didn't want to die from exposure ... got dunked quite a few times. I was most afraid I would ge

In regard the contradiction ... consider the two stories Adam and Eve in genesis. The difference between the two creation stories is substantial and contradictory in that the first shows man and woman created on equal footing and the second, woman as a subset of man and hence subservient. I'd say that is a contradiction that has had substantial implications over the development of culture. Now on to the 9/11 controversy. It was apparent to me that regardless the events of 9.11.2001 there was going to be retribution. It is obvious that some 3000 persons died in the attack a
