Good luck with the surgery! I had surgery on my right wrist a few years back. My two middle fingers had been numb for some time and I had little strength. Immediately after the surgery, the numbness was gone and I've not had any problem since. I think one wrist at a time would be infinitely better than both, but you have to do what you have to do.
