  1. We had our voice when we elected them to be stewards of our county. mrnn
  2. When you find yourself on the same side of a debate as a megacorporation fighting to retain their monopoly, you're probably on the wrong side of the debate. What happened to all the proud capitalists in Paulding county? mrnn
  3. Write your governor....sounds like this one falls on him. mrnn
  4. But do you bitch and moan about it or do you recognize it as one of the costs of living in a decent community with a decent school system? An investment in the future, if you will. mrnn
  5. If that were to happen as it has to "some" on this board, flying in the face of documented materials and the LAW ITSELF that say I should be heavily subsidized, you won't catch me on here bitching about it. mrnn
  6. A burden is seeing a two parents and a kid in a wheelchair on the side of the road begging for money for their daughter's medical treatment. A burden is dropping by the gas station and seeing a jar with a picture of someone with some horrible disease who needs donations for treatment. A burden is the homeless man walking around muttering nonsense to himself and others because he can't afford the medication he needs to treat his mental disorders. A burden is watching a friend go bankrupt because they got hit with 100's of thousands of dollars in medical bills when their wife was hit by an un
  7. I'd say it worked out pretty well for your family and I'm very happy for you guys. I'm bothered that you feel you're getting a hand-out. It's not. You have a right to healthcare because, ya know, you're a living, breathing, human being. When it comes down to life/death or health/disease, I don't give a damn where the money is coming from...I want you and your family to live the healthiest, fullest lives you can. We all only get one...the fact you don't make a lot of money shouldn't sentence you to an unhealthy one. mrnn
  8. It's tough to pass an effective bill, much less amend it as problems arise, when you have a party in control of the House that refuses to vote on anything to do with it other than repeal it. They've made absolutely ZERO effort to offer suggestions to improve upon the basic framework of Obamacare....nothing....just voted to repeal 40 times. What's ridiculous is that Obamacare is what it is due to an effort at bipartisanship instead of the Dems, who had the power, to just steamroll the GOP and pass single-payer to begin with. mrnn
  9. Go here and see if there's an Obamacare Navigator within reasonable distance that you could sit down and talk with. You're getting the runaround. As you said, perhaps it's because you would qualify for Medicaid by new federal standards, which weren't enacted by Gov. Scott, that you are caught in the middle. Surely yours wouldn't be an isolated case and I'd really like to believe there is a process available that will get you subsidized. BTW, there would have been federal Obamacare Navigators at every county health office in FL but your governor banned them (though some counties aren't f
  10. Yeah, that's pretty bad. Thanks for offering up the letter but I believe you....I just think it's worth a second call/letter/email or whatever after you get your identity sorted out. When they tell you you don't qualify ask them to explain how you can have an income well below 400% of the poverty line and not qualify. I'll see if I can dig up the page on the IRS for you later on. Did the Kaiser estimator also tell you no subsidy? ETA: I thought perhaps they were taking assets into account (I know you've said you own everything outright) but, no, it's just income. What they told y
  11. Either you got bad information from them or you're sharing bad information on PCom. Again, I'm not trying to pick on you, just saying that you're getting ripped off. You can go to sources all over the web (including the IRS) that mention the 400% and under number getting subsidies. Guessing you guys have about $22k in income, you should also qualify for greatly reduced deductibles and copays being you're right near the 150% over poverty-line. mrnn
  12. I was talking about you saying you won't get a subsidy. Based on what you're saying ($555/mo is greater than 25% of your household income) you most definitely qualify for subsidies. Subsidies are available for anyone making less than 400% of the poverty line which, for a family of two, would be $62K/yr. You're doing something wrong and I hope you figure it out because no one should be paying that much of their income for health insurance. http://www.nolo.com/legal-encyclopedia/will-you-qualify-obamacare-tax-credits-2014.html http://obamacarefacts.com/obamacare-subsidies.php http://inh
  13. My guess is you're doing something wrong. No offense...just sayin'. mrnn
  14. I would be upset, too...but the reality of the situation is that (based on the Facebook post above) you guys aren't getting too bad of a deal when compared to an average employee in the private sector...that's all I was saying. mrnn
  15. You mean like requiring that major insurers spend atleast 80% of revenues on actual health care, a regulation that resulted in millions refunded to corporate America? Requiring that employees' plans cover their college-aged children? Yes...horrible, horrible regulations. Employer-sponsored insurance prices have been skyrocketing for decades and, if anything, have slowed in growth since ACA enactment. mrnn
  16. This entire topic really has nothing to do with Obamacare. These state employees are provided insurance by their employers...they are not purchasing policies on the exchange nor are they on Medicaid. mrnn
  17. $300/mo with a $1500 deductible doesn't sound that awful to me for family coverage. Granted, if these folks are moving from a much better plan it may seem bad but it doesn't seem that far outside the norm, to me. Is there something I'm missing? mrnn
  18. Highland is a great store. Jim and co. are super nice folks who are happy to provide recommendations. Pricing is fair and they have a pretty good craft beer selection to be located in Paulding County. If you do drink craft, I'd only recommend checking bottling dates on some of the IPAs...some of them sit on the shelves for way too long (that's the distributor's fault, not theirs). mrnn
  19. I may be reading between the lines too much but, based on the way you wrote your post, you've already decided on job #1...which, not that it's important, is also the job I'd choose. Happy people tell me it's probably a happy place to work...folks aren't stressed out and actually enjoy their jobs. Not to mention the room to grow despite a lower starting salary. mrnn
  20. I agree but I'm in a pretty unique position. My boss is in Tulsa, OK. I haven't seen him in a year and a half (typically once a year). Our group of about 15 folks is spread out all over the country with about half of us working from home while others are spread out at different corporate satellite offices. Working from home isn't hurting my career, per se, I am still very involved in the business and am leaned on heavily which keeps my name out there plus I'm regularly on conference calls/WebEx's/etc. Don't get me wrong, I agree that being in a corporate environment, in the office, keeps y
  21. I've been working from home full-time now for 3-4 years. My employer has a satellite office downtown ATL but I'm the only one from my team here so I just work from home. I've been absent from the office so long that they recently stole my office workspace to give to someone else. While it's great in many aspects to work from home, work is becoming more of a chore than a career. This could be due to just being sick of my job (been there going on 14 years) or other things going on in my life, but I feel like a change of scenery could do wonders to getting some passion back for my work. 22. Ours must've come on about the same time then. I tried to stay awake...can't really explain why but felt like I should've stayed awake to keep an eye on things...but lost that battle at about 3. We all stayed warm under our covers but the house was freezing this am. Must've been a tree down in the area. Of all the nights to lose power Big props to Greystone for getting out there to brave the cold and get us all back online. mrnn
  23. Anyone else without power? Just lost ours about 15 mins ago. Neighborhood is dark but wondering if it's more widespread or if anyone knows any details. We're in the High Shoals area mrnn
