  1. So that essentially renders the airport dead, eh? Leaves only Austin and Carmichael in favor of it? mrnn
  2. My 13yo has been on a 40's and 50's music kick. We were at the record store last weekend and he snagged an Ink Spots record. Of course, me being me, I'm looking at a late 40's black group called the Ink Spots and was like "wow"....but hey, apparently they're pretty good and he wanted the record. mrnn
  3. Man, that's rough....way, way, way too young. Sounds like he lived a pretty rough life but went out on a high note with his daughters and sobriety. Sorry for your loss. mrnn
  4. I appreciate your service....Vietnam pisses me off to read about....I can't imagine having been there fighting. Tough to win a fight with your arms tied behind your back. mrnn
  5. He answered "both" when asked whether we needed to increase revenues or cut spending to reduce the debt. Heaven forbid we actually vote for someone who's willing to compromise and be pragmatic. If it makes you feel any better, he signed Norquist's pledge already so while, given his answer to the Telegraph, he knows that we must take a balanced approach, he's already bowed down to the extreme right and committed to inflexibility. mrnn Karen Handel is such an opportunist. She's essentially Sarah Palin without a journalism degree (or any degree, for that matter). mrnn
  6. Happy Birthday! mrnn
  7. When they were discussing the public input ordinance, it's a damn shame that they don't include a minimum response period from the board in response to citizen input. For instance, the last woman who spoke about citizen participation had a couple good ideas and I would have liked to hear the commission's feedback....instead it was just an "ok, thanks". Even if it's just a minimum 1 minute response from that citizen's elected commissioner (unless another volunteers), there should be some acknowledgement and feedback provided. mrnn
  8. Wild guess here, but perhaps he wanted to go for a position with more authority and power? If you want to make change, the higher you are in government the better your chances of accomplishing your mission. There's quite a difference between someone quitting for a higher purpose than someone who, like Sarah Palin, quits to go make more money in the private sector. One is still trying to affect change while the other is selfish. mrnn
  9. Am I the only one who finds it odd that both Colette and Crowe (that I've seen) have some yard signs that are exactly the same design just with their own names on them...as if the same group donated the signs? Anyone know who the contributor is for those signs? mrnn
  10. Agreed that debates can be kind of shady but I enjoyed watching the Chamber debate...didn't seem like a bunch of mudslinging. Interviews also offer a great way to get your message out. Not to sound like Pubby's puppet, but he has a point that there is a certain danger to a candidate only talking to individuals....he can tell me one thing and tell you something completely different. And thanks for the swimsuit competition visual..... mrnn
  11. I ran into Tony Crowe at Publix in New Hope the last time he was running. Seemed like nice enough of a guy though I didn't vote for him. You seem to have a closer relationship with him....why is he willing to sit down for coffee with someone but will not do interviews or debates? This isn't a new strategy of his either...he did the same thing last time he ran. That isn't a smartass question either...that's specifically why I didn't vote for him last time. mrnn
  12. But this isn't a major airport hub...at most (far in the future), it will be a regional airport like in Macon. Using Hartsfield as a baseline for how you view Silver Comet is akin to being fearful of a mild rain shower approaching on radar because you've seen the damage an EF-5 tornado can do. Have you driven around Middle Georgia Regional? Have you studied their taxes? Have they created public transit to service that airport? Of course they haven't...it's not nearly big enough. Same as our little one runway airport. mrnn
  13. Of course it wasn't a full EA study....it was one of several prospective sites. Atlanta was given $1M by the FAA to perform research into potential secondary airport sites and Paulding was one of them. When you're shopping for a new home, do you first call your bank, insurer, and county to obtain precise amounts of the mortgage, insurance, and property tax bills on each house you look at or do you make a rough estimate in your head and then nail down exact figures once you actually choose one? I'm glad I can help you feel young again. mrnn
  14. Things change, Whitey...circumstances evolve. You have every right to call Swafford a liar, hypocrite, asshole, whatever you'd like....he has definitely flip-flopped....but it won't change the fact that the county is under different leadership at this point who have a different vision for the future of, not only the airport, but the county as a whole. As a person whose opinion I value, I asked you a while back why you didn't want this airport deal to move forward and you told me about your history in Clayton. If I'd seen the transformation you've seen, I'd be scared cheezeless, too. I
  15. Hi Pot. Meet Kettle. Why don't you ask Blake for a copy of the report? You're right, it wasn't a full FAA impact study but I can't think of any extraordinary environmental features at Silver Comet that would cause their estimated environmental impacts to be very far off from an in-depth study....the FAA knows a thing or two about airports and can make a better educated guess than anyone else when it comes to impacts. Surely better than you, the mighty Tundra, and her claim that 1200 houses are about to become worthless. mrnn
  16. This was well worth the hour it took to watch it. It was great to actually here facts and studies cited instead of reading hyperbole from a particular group of folks here on PCom. I've gotten into it with Tundra a couple times when she claims that there are something like 1200 homes near and around the airport that will be impacted. I used Google Maps and such and insisted that the number was no where near 1200. She still stuck by her numbers. It was very interesting to learn, at 49:09 into the interview, that a study was completed by the City of Atlanta in 2011-2012 to look at the co
  17. I think if you look into a Roku 1 or AppleTV 1 you'll be able to stream without HDMI. I'm not trying to spend your money for you, but it may be worth having a look at a new TV. Prices have come down a lot while quality has gone way up over the last 5-10 years. I got my kids 32" LEDs for under $300 and that wasn't a sale. mrnn
  18. Atleast someone has had good luck with them. It took them two trips and wasting a $100 new circuit board for a dryer that was throwing out inconsistent codes before my neighbor and I looked at it and realized it didn't have the correct power cord. Waste of money and you would THINK that an appliance repair place, after being told this dryer is just being hooked up for the first time, would think to check the freaking power cord. mrnn
  19. What started happening 9 years ago? I'm not asking for generalities, I'm asking for specifics. Obviously there are some people who feel that all dem dar coloreds relocating here caused this county to go to crap so, please, prove it. mrnn
  20. This is what an HDMI input looks like. If you don't have one, let me know and maybe we can find a way to rig your TV. mrnn
  21. Does your TV have HDMI or a USB port? If you have wireless in your house (which you should get with any kind of package deal via XFINITY or UVERSE), you can stream wirelessly to your TV using one of these options: Google Chromecast - Connects to TV via USB and costs $35. Comes with no remote...you have to use a smartphone, laptop, or tablet as a remote Apple TV - Connects to TV via HDMI and costs just under $100. Comes with remote. Synchs with iTunes for all music, movies, etc. as well as services like Netflix, HuluPlus, etc. Amazon Fire - Connects to TV via HDMI or USB and costs
  22. Here's page regarding return for online orders: http://www.homedepot.com/c/Return_Policy It also includes a phone number...1-800-430-3376. I'd give them a shout. mrnn
  23. As you touch on in the second part of your post, this isn't some new phenomenon. Suicide isn't learned behavior...it's a symptom, albeit a very final symptom, of mental disease. While I agree that the whole "helicopter mom", "everyone wins" coddling is not good for kids in the long run, I don't believe that you could quantitatively draw a parallel between that and suicide whereas you can absolutely draw that parallel with depression and/or other mental diseases. You could certainly argue that the coddling in childhood could cause pre-existing mental conditions to be exacerbated more e
  24. I don't feel she should be scared to talk to DFACS or the police...without doing so, they have nothing to go on but the wild stories that her daughter is giving them. They don't just arrest people without cause...there will be interviews and such and, when the dust settles, the mother should certainly have more credibility after the interviews than the daughter and life will move forward. Retaining a lawyer right off the grip just screams "guilt" to me. I would only get a lawyer if the state decides to press charges. She has to understand that DFACS is in the business of protecting chil
