  1. Unemployment is going down. These numbers do not include those who have used up all benefits and now given up or those who have taken a job at much less pay and with less or no benefits. I personally know people who were employed 3 to 4 years ago, now are employed at 30 to 40 % of what they were making and now have no benefits. On Consumer Confidence... Look at the market this market this month... It's spiraling downward.
  2. It will be interesting to see reporting of the hearing that resulted in the restraining order. Did the School Board have the opportunity to explain how they came to their decision or did Mr Zimmerman's attorney do all the talking? I also look forward to the opportunity to read the actual restraining order as written by the judge. I know at least one School Board member who took this situation very seriously. That school board member told me face to face that during the closed session they studied the School District written policys and actions that were accessed after previous similar sit
  3. We got a wireless printer at Wal-Mart for $49.00. I love it because I can send it an email from anywhere and it's printed when I get home. I can even send an email with an attachment. It will print the email and open and print the attachment. I can print anything in color from my phone in the house from the App without telling it to print in color. I'll bet it does stuff I don't know how to tell it to do it. Might be everyday technology for computer experts, but this printer just blows me away.
  4. If I remember correctly Paulding County High School was vandalized in a similar prank just a few years ago and those students received the same punishment as Mr Zimmerman was given by the school board. I'm wondering if the former Paulding County students now have a case to sue the school system because they were treated unfairly?
  5. I'm wondering if questioned by the media if the business leaders would now think this entertainment was acceptable? This would make for a good live interview by Pubby. I worked for an old man Mr Kennedy (Booger Red) many years ago who used to tell us "Don't do any thing or say anything you would be embarrassed to fess up too on a witness stand". That leadership example kept all of us in our division out of trouble for years. The company attorney told me many years later he didn't understand why he never represented our division in court. I think the same thing applies to what Mr Kenne
  6. I am voting NO. We are now paying 7% sales tax and if this passes we will be paying 8% sales tax. In my eyes that's a 14% increase of sales tax. My suggestion is to identify out of state company's doing business in Georgia and Paulding county and require they register and tag the vehicles assigned to Georgia so taxes are collected here. Do your own survey and look at tractor trailers you see on our roads and parked here at night and you will start to see many out of state tags. Out of state tags mean out of state tax collections.
  7. It always amazes me how much an opinion on any subject varies on Paulding.com from something being great all the way to the same thing being terrible. I've had very little interaction with the Hiram Post Office during the past 25+ years. I've dropped off letters a few times when it was convenient for me. During the same period I have lived in the Dallas zip code. First served at the uptown post office that 1st Baptist now occupies and then at the new post office. My experiance with Dallas for 25+ years has been excellent. I've always found the carrier and counter staff to be friendly
  8. My bill came today. It's right in line with past bills. Several years ago I got a high bill and then I went down to the meter and found it still running when everything in the house was off. I hired a plumber who found my line to the house had several leaks in it. I took his bill to the water department and they wrote off part of the leaked water.
  9. Recently I had a beat up, well worn truck I needed to sell and get $2,700.00 out of it. The best offer I had to sell it to local dealers was a $1,200.00 guess to sell it at Red Top Auction. I did every other day updates on Craigslist and Carsforsale.com for a month for $2,995.00 with just a few calls where people were looking to get a truck for almost free or me take an out of state check during the night. I cut those calls short. I found a business owner who let me park it on 278 in Hiram. I got a 18" x 24" sign at Home Depot. I parked the truck on a Wednesday. I put $3995.00 on the sign.
  10. We do not drink. We do not have a problem with others drinking as long as they respect our right to have a good time. We went to Tequilas in Hiram. I bought a T-Shirt for $5.00 and then we got 30% off. We had a lot of fun. There was a happy atmosphere. There was some beer drinking. No one was drunk. A good time was had by all.
  11. I honor the officers who were out that night. Sound like they put themselves in risk in order to protect innocent drivers from a drunk driver.
  12. 10 years ago when I was in the demolition business. Douglasville would take our trash for an out of county fee which was just a little more than driving l the way to Paulding countie's on the north end of county. If I remember correctly we went to the the end of Bakers Bridge Road, turned right and the Douglasville dump / transfer location was about a mile on the right.
  13. Paulding County no longer has a dump. We now have a transfer station. All our trash is loaded onto tractor trailers and is hauled to approved landfills in south Georgia. I have not checked the budget sheets in several years but I expect the fees collected at the scale does not totally cover the actual operating cost.
  14. I love this report. The dead beat could have been paying $15 / month = $45 / quarter for trash service and saved himself a lot of trouble.
  15. I am sorry to see them leaving Hiram. I really enjoyed the home cooking.
  16. Glassdogs... Evidently you and me both aren't up on who's rich and famous in Atlanta.
  17. We are with Meg at Byrd Insurance in Hiram. She represents about 10 different companys. Different company's have different nitches. She is able to load the application in the computer and immediately see which company has the best coverage for the best rates. On ours her best plan for cars and homeowners coverage was with Southern States. On a rental house she recommended we stay where we were at.

I think you are right. Now that the economy has picked up just a little our Tunnel Construction has restarted with 6 months funding secured. Surveyors are working around the East Paulding Entrance area now. I'm guessing the 92 widening is impacted by the turn lanes and intersections for this entrance. Of course with elections just a little over 6 months away continued funding for our legs of the tunnels could get a boost or get shut down.
  19. This subject is addressed in an article on Hiram-Patch.com this morning. The D A is quoted "When I say 400 hours I mean 400 hours". My personal opinion... if one or more of these young adults were to attempt to beat or undermine any part the agreement offered by the D A, I do not think the D A would then demonstate any flexibility towards them. Also my personal opinion... If any of these young people were to reconsider and want out of their agreement, I would think they could.
  20. Theres a tunnel that goes from Dallas to Cartersville. Maybe they've started working on it again?
  21. We went yesterday afternoon. We were impressed with the selection, assortment, pricing and friendliness of the staff. Once we got home we found some clothes did not fit. We returned this morning to exchange sizes. This visit was equality as good. The exchange process flowed smoothly and we actually ended up buying more than we exchanged. I think they will do good here. Maybe the Itilian place (Capalbo's ???) will come back where Sports Authority is now located.
  22. I would think if it's all out in the open, reported honestly and accepted by the Supervision services, it's perfectly acceptable. Example... "Joe worked 8 hours Monday 9am to 5pm and I gave him 16 hours Monday 8am to midnight because his work was so nasty". I would think if the report is falsified, it would be a crime to make a false report to a court officer. Example... "Joe worked 16 hours Monday 8am to midnight" (when in fact Joe only actually worked 8 hours 9am to 5pm). Again I'm a black and white thinking person who thinks 7 hours and 59 minutes is 7 hours and 59 minutes.
  23. This will sound gross. Growing up in SC in the 60's my dad put red reflectors on each side and each end of our circle driveway. This was before everything was made of plastic. The reflectors were glass attached to metal post my dad made and painted. Saturday morning we got up and all 4 were gone. Sunday afternoon while playing on the railroad tracks in front of our house, a little ways down the track I found the 4 post where the glass reflectors had been broken out on the tracks. I brought them home and during the week my dad attached new glass reflectors, straightened th
  24. Brianph... I am really impressed with how the owner, the county and you are handling this.
  25. So the place writes down actual hours worked or writes in more hours than actually worked? I guess my engineering background makes things too black and white for me. To me if I actually work 3 hours and 59 minutes on a job or community service it's 3 hours and 59 minutes. Seems to me if 1 job is worth $8 / hour and another job is worth $16 / hour and another job is worth $32 an hour... An hour is still an hour. I am wondering if the D A will accept a hour sheet that says "this persons value was worth x 4 times more than another's worth so we are giving 4 hours credit for each hour thi
