  1. Hi everyone! It has been quite awhile since I posted anything but when I realized this I just couldn't help bringing this up and maybe starting a little non--offensive fun.

Who remembers all of the discussions on P.com about the Paulding Tunnels?

My wife and I were watching the TV show Stargirl because of the local ties and I realized that the Paulding Tunnels are a main feature. It's obvious that the directors and producers of the show found out about the extensive tunnel network under Dallas and Paulding.

It looks like there is an entrance somewhere in the basement of the courthouse and a lot of others scattered throughout the area. The bad guys are always going down there to meet up.

Has anyone else watched and noticed this?

  2. For those who want to move but don't want to loose your email address - tere are a number of companies that offer inexpensive or free email addresses. go find one of the services (I wouldn't use Gmail or Yahoo for this - go a little less mainstream) and sigh up, then slowly move your email to that address.

I did that 20+ years ago with mail.com and still have the same address even though I've switched providers a few times. It costs in the neighborhood of $25.00 per year.

  3. The more important chart, though is the one that establishes that of the average 20,000 monthly visitors, participation in the political life of the community is broad, with 77% being either somewhat active or active.

If by 'community' you mean P.com - please explain this: 20,000 montly visitors with 77% participating means 15,400 unique members participating each month. Where are these members?

  4. How many of y'all know that there's a Farmers Market (Sponsored by the Paulding County Farm Bureau) every Thursday from 3:00 until 7:00 in the Citizens Square Plaza's parking lot?

It's at the corner of East Paulding and Dallas Highway (120) near the Dallas Wal*Mart. They have a lot of fresh local produce and other locally produced items. Stop by if you get a chance.

Here's a link to their newsletter:

  5. Mr. Crist's recycling center is about a block from my business. I have tried to be open to this, but I do have some serious concerns about it.

First off, I want to say that the letter above (I received one too) does exaggerate tremendously and reeks of a hit job. So I would suggest discounting it somewhat.

However...I spoke with Mr. Crist about it and was not satisfied with what I heard. Being a contractor myself, I knew what questions to ask. His answers were somewhat evasive and contradictory. The major concern I have is that he will not be using the dumpsters ONLY for his roofing business, he admitted that he would be renting them. He even admitted that he could not control what gets thrown into rental cans; so in reality, almost anything could be coming back to his facility.

His somewhat misleading candidacy last time (in reference to his actual residency which was in Cobb) and the fact that he donated a patrol car to Hiram PD leading up to this does not help my suspicions with regard to Mr. Crist. He also told me that he planned to run for Mayor of Hiram.

So form your own opinion, but as a neighboring businessman, I am concerned.

It's OK to be concerned based on the facts and first hand impressions, and go get folks to join your side based on those facts and impressions.

It's quite another to put together a hit piece with the sole intent of forming a mob against someone. It's gotten so bad one of the folks who's bought into the 'toxic waste dump' had to resort to claiming I wrote things that I didn't write in order to further their cause.

  6. How close is it to the Silver Comet Trail? Not far from what I heard.

If you 're worried about the SCT, you need to start a movement to get Metromont shut down. The cement dust the could put out would easily damage the lung of those on the trail.

While we're at it, why should a helicopter repair business be allowed to be in Hiram. One of those could easily crash into Hiram Elementary - I've seen flights to in that general direction a lot. We need to shut it down fast before something bad happens.

  7. Oh, I know you didn't write it, it was from the Dallas Hiram Patch. I wonder why a reporter would write something untrue like that and try to get away with it. Just report the truth and get the information out there for the public to view and voice their thoughts. Yes, it is true that dumpsters are impossible to police, my husband is a pipe fitter and he's seen people dump all sorts of stuff in the bins.

I believe this was an opinion piece, not a news article. If you click on the author's name, you will see other things posted by him in the Patch. He seems to be very anti-Crist, because that's all he writes about or comments on.

  8. After reading the request, I see it's as expected. The writer lied in the first sentence of the opinion piece piece and went on to put every scare tactic in the book into their article (short of nuclear contamination). How can he expect anyone to take him seriously?

It's a transfer facility not a DUMP, but an enclosed transfer facility and the request specifically excludes hazardous waste

If someone wanted to sneak hazardous waste into a Crist dumpster, they could just as easily sneak it into a school dumpster. Maybe we should petition to remove all dumpsters from near the schools.

  9. Is this THE, "Mark David" of Pcom??? So sorry for your loss. Every time I hear of a passing and the person is about my age, it makes me wonder, what happened. My thoughts and prayers are with the family.

It's not me, but thank you for your concern.

My prayers are also with this family.

  10. Alton Brown says, "Stuffing is evil." "Well, most of the time."

IIRC, Alton did stuff the bird one time, but he put the stuffing in cheesecloth before putting it in the cavity. That made it easy to get all the stuffing out without having to dig it out.

It probably would make it easier to continue cooking the stuffing if the turkey is at temp but the stuffing isn't.

What's interesting is the rig he put together for frying a turkey. And to answer the earlier question - he did brine it first.

  11. Was it a high-speed chase where they got everyone when they stopped the car, or a high speed chase where the perps jumped out, ran and had to be tracked down?

Also - Putting a school on lock down is probably pretty easy - a phone call from the right person based on something that might be happening in the area. Releasing that lock down would by it's nature be a little more involved. The appropriate decision makers would have to confirm to their satisfaction that whatever triggered the lock down was indeed resolved and there is no longer a danger to the students.

  12. I am interested in how Romney felt about what he saw.

I personally know so many people that desperately want a job. Their unemployment has run out.

What kind of opportunity did Romney see when he saw that factory?

Do most people in this country that are employed make to much money?

Do working people live better than they should?

Should we all make a little less money and live at a lower standard so there are more jobs to go around.

We know union workers make too much money, who exactly deserves what they get paid and who doesn't?

Should full time workers be able to make ends meet? or should they be penalized for unskilled labor by having to share housing and expenses.

I am always curious about how people picture things in a realistic manner. There are a lot of bullets flying around, a lot of little sayings repeated, but it is hard for me to grasp what people are picturing when they see them or repeat them.

I have ask many times what poverty should look and feel like in America. When I think of poverty I see depression pictures, dirty skinny people. Of course they were never blamed, leaders were blamed.

Is it different now? I know there are poor people, with the exception of the people living under the over passes in Atlanta I never see dirty skinny people.

Do people think that unskilled minimum wage earners should be skinny, dirty, and homeless?

We are hating on them because our taxes supplement their living.

Actually many of the lower income folks I have known are chubby from the cheap starch they live on.

I want to know how Romney felt about these people, that is the most important thing to me. Did he feel sorry for they way they were force to live, or did he see it as a way to make a lot of money? did he jump all over the opportunity to profit from the situation?

How much we he like to see big business profiting from something like this in America?

I would like to see him answer these questions in an interview.

How did Romney feel? Do you want to know based on USA standards of living, or Chinese?

More importantly, I want to know how do the workers feel? Do they feel oppressed and abused, or are they happy to have a job where they get room and board, probably better living conditions than they have a home, and the ability to save money for their futures?

The biggest problem I see with people judging factories in other countries is they do so based on our standards.

Living in a small room with 3 level bunk beds sounds terrible until you realize many probably lived in a one room house with their family, with no running water and with a only a fire place to heat the place. At home, they would have to work the fields to bring home enough food to eat.

In other cases, we hear about young teenagers working in factories, and it sounds terrible. The problem is they often do not have the option of school at that age and they would be roaming the streets, but having the job means they can help feed their family.
