  1. Former airport director recalls 'disengaged' Paulding commissioner before 2013 announcement

I ran across this yesterday and it had me wondering why now?

I have been gone most of the last year, so I missed a lot of the politics leading up to the commissioners race. I could see this coming out before the vote, but why now?

Is it just setting the record straight because Blake is no longer employed by the county and can say what he wants? But he is not the only one giving statements for the article so help me out here.

It is a very long article so you will need to click through to read it all.

The former Paulding airport director says a commissioner was “completely disengaged” from issues at the county airport in his district before a major project was announced in 2013.

Meanwhile, the commissioner maintains he was intentionally misled about the airport project and other county economic development plans before a controversy erupted which changed Paulding's political direction.

Commissioner Todd Pownall and former airport director Blake Swafford recently recalled events leading up to the October 2013 announcement the Paulding County Airport Authority contracted with a company to recruit a commercial passenger airline to Silver Comet Field airport near Dallas.

The airport authority is seeking a replacement for Swafford, who was airport director from its construction in 2007 until May of this year. The authority recently appointed one of its members, Paulding resident and former Georgia Tech aerospace engineer Terry Tibbitts, as interim director while it searches for a permanent replacement.

Pownall said there was “no doubt” he and Swafford “butted heads” between the announcement about the proposed addition of commercial service and Swafford’s departure in May of this year.

Swafford, who headed the county airport department, “wasn’t honest with me” during the months leading up to Propeller’s announcement, Pownall said.

“He never let me know about it,” Pownall said. “That’s not what you do to your elected officials that are supposed to be supporting the issues and supporting [the airport department]. He worked for the board of commissioners.”

He said he believed Swafford “made a lot of decisions on his own” in working to move the deal forward.

“[swafford] kind of put the wheels in motion and then shared it with people,” Pownall said.

I think I may have found the answer to my question!

    Things that Make you Hmmm…

Is Todd Pownall considering a write-in campaign?

There has been some chatter recently about a write in campaign candidate from anti-commercialization activists for BOC Chairman. Yes, it is technically not over yet! Mid September is the deadline for declaring yourself a write-in candidate. Wake Up Paulding County assumes, but has not verified that if a write in candidate declares, their name would appear on the November presidential ballot alongside Carmichael’s in the county general election, just as if there had been a Democrat primary winner for the BOC Chairman.

At the August 9th BOC meeting Todd Pownall states, “It won’t be the same conversation (referring to a tax increase for next year) coming from this seat if the Lord still has me sitting here next year.”

Is this a HINT that Todd Pownall is considering a write in campaign for BOC Chairman?

  2. 1,050 days we've been hearing the same old song and dance routines on the airport.

The Pro-139'ers are sticking to their story and the Anti-139'ers are sticking to their's. Both side still claim they represent the will of the vast majority of citizens.

I think I've moved to the group that best represents most of the citizens. "I Am Tired Of Hearing The Same Old Anti & Pro-139 Story's. Let The Courts Decide And Let's Embrace The Decisions And Move On".

I don't care if the courts decide General Aviation or Commercial, let's embrace the decisions and move on to make it a successful airport. At this point there are NO winners... We ALL are losers.

Is that why this article is out now? It just seems like an election cycle article. Maybe it is just Blake clearing the air before he goes? IDK That is why I posted it, this is somewhat of an expose' . Or this is how it really was.......

  4. I voted for Dubya his first go round, so tired of all the Monica crap, give someone else a chance and see what they can do, and then all the wars started for no good reason. He didn't take out Bin Laden, that was under Obama's watch. I voted for Kasich in the primary, might have voted for some other Republicans, and all they can offer up is Donald Trump?

I don't blame the GOP for Donald Trump. Fox news and extreme right wing radio host wrote a script that anyone wanting to be president could have followed. They make their living criticizing our government. According to them there is nothing good going on in this country or around the world. They have made us angry and afraid. Trump for many is like the second coming of Christ. He simply regurgitates the the criticism and offers up simplistic answers that satisfy the masses. He reflects their anger and dissatisfaction back at them magnifying the anger ten fold. Party has nothing to do with the rise of Trump, he just chose those that were ripe for the picking, much like Obama did.

We are convinced that our lives are horrible, we are told that they are and the government is the culprit. Our misery comes from favoritism towards everyone but the white middle class.

We still live better than most of the world. We will always need to respond to changes here at home and around the world some decisions will be good some will not. Our basic principals are the foundation of this country. First and foremost we are a democracy. I don't think Mr. Trump has any experience with democracy. Unfortunately a shocking amount of people are looking for a dictator that will not only parrot the problems set fourth by the media, but will solve them in the most brutal uncompromising way. The world will be watching how the the leader of the most powerful country in the world goes about the business of government.

  5. The bigger picture is the support of candidates that represent the most extreme version of their respective idealism of their party. We have a revolution on our hands that is split down the middle. The supporters of both extremist are active and passionate. What happens when they no longer have a candidate that does not represent their disgust for the establishment.

I believe this is why we have the reluctant support of Donald by many of the GOP.

I predict if Donald drops out it will get very ugly when Bernie loses the nomination.

I sometimes catch myself thinking maybe anything is better than the crappy establishment leadership we have had for as many years as I can remember. On the other hand I feel our standing with the international community has become very precarious and we can't afford too many missteps in that direction.

We are naive to think things can not get any worse.

Thank you Pubby and all those that are praying and have been with me through the journey. I realized that the loss of an active social life and job I loved allowed me this time with my father over the last few years. It was a blessing in disguise as they say. I know God's hand is there through the ups and downs and losses.

  8. My condolences to the Hunt family for their loss of such a wonderful lady.

I admired and respected Vera so much. I always got a kick out of watching her organize and run Hunts Meadow with her family. She was energetic and feisty, I know she will be dearly missed by all that knew her.

I owe so much to her and her family. They provided a wonderful marketing venue that we built our fledgling practice on over 20 years ago. I wish I was at home I have some great pictures from the event we participated in and enjoyed all those years ago.

  9. From the NYTimes:

Sounds like suicidal genocide to me.

    Link to NYTimes article.

My question is whether this makes you want to burn more stuff?

    pubby

Nice way to start a philosophical conversation Pubby. Nothing wrong with exploring the what ifs in life.

Considering how Islam blames us for the ills of this world we may not want them to read this article.

I am sure there would be mass migration. Considering their intolerance for other religions it may cause genocide but not of them as it seems you are insinuating.

It is however more proof that life in extremes becomes more and more intolerable no matter what end of the spectrum you fall.

The Arabs have declared their stance that they will not allow themselves to be undersold ever again in the face of America's willingness to destroy the ecological balance of our continent in pursuit of fossil fuels.

The pressure for renewable energy sources from an economic stand point has come to a screeching halt and I am sure the funds for it will dwindle down to a trickle.

We know that global warming had a hard time getting traction to begin with. It has gained almost complete acceptance in scientific circles, but remains a political flash point that divides the parties.

We have sold our destiny to the highest bidder. If they say we will continue to burn fossil fuels until we are on the verge of a catastrophe we will.

If it were not for governments all over the world funding scientific research we would all be dying now from the pollutants released into our environment at a much higher rate. We know beyond a doubt that our environment is so toxic that 1 in 3 will develop cancer in their life time. As it is now they can only fight with expensive mis-information campaigns.

People believe what they want to believe. They point to record cold and snow storms as proof that the globe is not getting warmer and they point to record heat as proof that global warming is not resulting in an ice age.

I have no desire to bring the ignorant down on my head by pointing out the obvious proof they are ignoring while pointing it out in the same breath. :fool:

We may be facing a mass migration sooner than later as our neighbors to the north and south already live in extreme climates.

Who knows we may even welcome them as the amount of labor required feed an entire continent in our more temperate zones increases.

Or we could always shoot them with all our guns to keep them out. I think Americans will probably choose to kill them rather than accommodate them. On the other hand Europeans are not well armed so they will have to allow immigration and find a way to shelter and feed millions of migrants.

The NRA could also use this article to further the cause of weaponizing Americans even more. :clapping:

So there you go Pubby there is an economic silver lining to global warming. 1000's of jobs will be created in gun and ammunition manufacturing as Americans accept global warming and stock pile weapons to kill migrants from other countries. 8P

  10.

The conversation continued and it was mentioned that the we still have all the same options we had before the deal beginning with bombing or going to war.

Literally, the choice to oppose the deal is literally saying you don't want to give peace a chance.

    pubby

I am not sure about peace Pubby, it sometimes seems impossible when it comes to middle eastern countries.

Americans don't really understand how they are perceived around the world. In some instances comes off as our way or the highway. Or war. A lot of Americans see our foreign affairs as very simple. The good democracies are on our side. Those not on our side are in the wrong. They will do as we say or face being bombed. Seems reasonable right. We don't realize just how scary we are to the rest of the world when we start pushing a country around then end up in a war.

When it comes to dealing with other countries we need agreements, strict guidelines so the rest of the world sees us as fair, not scary. I had a discussion with someone who believed that Iran bombing Israel was a foregone conclusion. I guess we are seen in the position of using intelligence to preemptively strike before Israel is harmed.

The issue is the world would never really know if they were going to bomb Israel if we bombed first. This is why we have to have the rules and regulation for an agreement. Not especially for Iran or even Israel that does not like the agreement and I think my example will show why they don't above the reason that they would be pleased for us to make preemptive strikes in Iran.

It also demonstrates why there is so much distrust of us in even moderate middle eastern countries. Lets use our continent as an example.

We have recently been blaming the Mexican people for a lot of our problems. Some think we should take very strong measures to keep them out. So someone starts floating the idea of regularly bombing the border.

The Mexican government goes to Canada claiming we hate them, we are shooting at them and planning to bomb them.

The Canadian government takes the stance that if any of your people shoot Mexicans or you point a bomb at them we are going to attack you.

So Canada is going to take Mexico's word that we are shooting at them and planning to bomb them. No rules, no guide lines or agreements. All they have to do is say Americans hate us and are going to bomb us and the Canadians will retaliate. We have been the Canadians for years. We can not threaten or start a war based on the Israeli's being scared.

The guidelines are clear of what they can and can not do.

The UN agrees that it is fair. We have never been in a better position than we are right now as it relates to Iran.

Our arrogance along with our military and weapons scare all other countries. We are not seen as heroes to many,we are seen as bullies. We have got to have agreements to avoid wars and to keep our allies on our side.

This agreement has approval of the UN as it should have. We should not be exempt from reason any more than any other country. Rules are the basis for society there is no reason for us to be exempt unless we are a lawless society.

  11. There is an article floating around that claims all the mass murderers over the last decade had been on psychotropic drugs at one time or another.

We know that these drugs can have the exact opposite effects of what they are used for.

Every day my news feed has a mentally ill person killing children, families, and themselves.

I think we have more mental illness than ever before in the history of mankind.

I believe that it will only get worse. I am sure that there is plenty of research into it out there. Unfortunately most of it is being done by pharmaceutical companies. These are only miracle drugs in that they help us when we deal with mental conditions.

I have a theory about why people are experiencing more mental issues than ever.

Our emotional state is on overload and our intellect can not keep up.

Entertainment over the last 50 years is geared towards creating emotional responses in us.

Much of it tends to be negative.

We let so much into our brains through music, tv, the web, and even video games even an avid reader takes in a lot.

Our emotions kick in first, then our brain sorts it into fiction or reality. The emotion is real even in response to a fictional situation. I think reality is harder on us there is no switch to flip to turn the emotion off as we do when we react to fictional situations. I believe that people are seeking more and more fictional entertainment to help themselves cope.

I think real life drama quickly overwhelms people because they are emotionally exhausted.

Our emotions are real and tangible, taking up massive amounts of our brain function.

If the majority of what you are taking in everyday as so called entertainment is creating negative emotions, it is not hard to be overwhelmed by negativity in real life.

For those that have major long term stressful events it can lead to serious mental issues.

I have said many times to be selective in what you expose your mind to. Nobody gets through life without major drama due to real life events.

God only knows why we seek out entertainment to experience negative emotions but I believe we are seeing the results of it.

I believe these breakdowns can happen to anyone, we all have bad things that happen beyond our control. The question is will you be able to handle it when it comes. If you are emotionally exhausted by the entertainment you choose to take in for hours and hours you may not be able to.

  12. We should still repeal and replace Obamacare but only if it is replaced with a well designed single-payer system.

Any real conservative would be pushing for that. It is a real indicator as to whether someone is both knowledgeable and actually conservative.

If you aren't for that, you are either unaware of the implications or very much NOT a fiscal conservative.

It would be a huge economic boost for this country. It would save trillions of dollars and tens of thousands of American lives.

I think the Supreme court did the Republicans a favor. They talk about repealing it to get votes.

If they repealed it, ugly would not be the word. Are they going to throw people out of hospital rooms? Unplug them from dialysis? respirators? take them out of infusion centers and send them home to die. These are people that can't work and can't pay for insurance. It is the same with the food stamps, now that employment is up they are cutting back. They screamed they would do it but drug their feet. As always it is extreme rhetoric that they are not going to change.

One thing is for sure if they keep it up we will have another Democrat in office because their is no visible proof of support for a moderate Republican candidate. Talk about making your bed and laying in it.

I don't subscribe to any extreme right publications but I assume turning over the gay marriage ruling is on the list with all the other legislation they intend to reverse.

Republicans are not in the business of saving anyone any money. No matter how many programs they tear down our taxes will not go down they will simply end up in the pockets of the chosen few and we will go further into debt.

  13. The funny thing is we are not giving money to those that can't afford medical care under single payer.

No money goes through the hands of the poor.

Single payer pays health care providers and those that manufacture medical goods.

It pays hospitals and clinics to make sure they have the best most update facilities.

When a person goes to a facility, the people working there, the equipment, and the overhead is being paid regardless of how many come in and what is wrong with them.

If you have been to a hospital lately I am sure you have seen the amount of time nurses spend documenting every little thing that is used for the patient. I am pretty sure that it is all linked to a procedure code that validates the use.

Medicine has become a nickel and dime industry that takes time away from the patient because everything has to be done in a way to get paid.

The burden of administration in medicine siphons off billions that can go to workers, supplies, and drugs.

Our car insurance should also go down because they will no longer have med pay. That is more money in our economy and may make it more affordable for low income workers to have and maintain a vehicle.

Someone said to me we don't have enough money in this country to pay for everyone to have medical care it will break us in a few years. Maybe we can see how far that administration money on both side of medicine and insurance will go.

We have to do this, because it is the right thing to do.

I can't imagine how it was in this country when all children did not go to school.

I believe the changes to healthcare will be just as profound in this country.

The ripples will be many and there is no doubt many will be good.

Lack of medical care should not be a symptom of poverty in a civilized nation anymore than lack of an education is.

We agreed that our society is better when all are educated and we will come to the conclusion it is the same when it come to access to healthcare in the future.

  14. We had graduates that came straight out of HS into construction. Many of them apprenticed with heat and air, plumbing and electrician and stayed with companies during the recession. Some found other lines of work that they are staying in.

The Mexicans operated the hammers and shovels, some roofed and they were excellent at masonry.

It seems they all went home because they did not want to split their households to collect welfare.

They are not coming back this time until they are welcomed. Hopefully with competent wages that are taxable and health insurance.

Many small businesses were severely effected by their exodus. A shop keeper in downtown Cedertown told me that all the merchants would bad mouth the droves that came to shop. Half of all the downtown businesses went under at one time.

There are still a lot boarded up.

We had hard working ethical workers that were used as a scape goat for everything wrong with this country.

The cost of produce is ridiculous, which in the long term effects the health of our our lower income family's that are not collecting food stamps.

I have never seen a lazy Mexican and have never heard a complaint from an employer about them being lazy.

There work ethic was so strong many would work a 6 hour lunch go home and rest, then return at 3 to work till close.

I was even told if they could not make it to work they would send someone in their place.

Gonna be interesting to see how the construction boom goes without them.

  15. All states I believe have made animal cruelty a felony. If this is indeed correct, why did he get a misdemeanor and only 1 charge at that? He had a problem with 1 or 2 dogs getting out in his.farm and I heard 1 of them.attacked another dog. So he wanted to re home them sunday. So he choose to put them in the trailer saturday evening and didn't come back until 1pm sunday. It was a horrific scence. My husband and another neighbor tried to help and husband told him to call for help..he chose not to..so I did. Why he could have opened the windows in his empty house and put them inside is baffling to me.

His farm needs to be investigated. It may sound crazy but our pets comfort is a priority for us. If it has been more than 6 hours since we have seen one of our 4 cats we get stressed out. This is just plain neglect pure and simple. He was doing something else the entire time these animals suffered. What could have been so important for 19 hours? Was he sitting in house with the AC thinking I might need to go check on them.

I wonder how we can make sure the welfare of the animals on the farm is checked?

  16. I am the neighbor who called 911 and animal control. He indeed does have a fenced in back yard and an empty house he could have put them in. He arrived back at his house at 1pm in the afternoon!! I am still shocked he only got one charge. ..the officer told me when I was speaking to him that it wasn't going to be good for him...well 1 misdemeanor charge is a slap on the wrist.

Thank you for calling and getting help for those babies.

  17. These animals are huge. The adults between 100 and 150. My pyr's neck fur or mane is easily 6 inches thick.

That trailer was crowded with animals of their size. Their respiration alone probably kept the temp at 100 degrees overnight.

I was told the house in the picture was not his nor the trailer and dogs shown. It was stock photos representing a trailer and pyrs.

It hurts me to look at my gentle giant that pants at 70 degrees and think what these animals suffered.
