  1. I am just waiting for states to start declaring themselves as a Christian state. Just as many want to claim that this is a Christian country. There is a huge difference between basing laws on religion and basing them on the bible. Religion is interpretation of the bible or other divinely inspired text. It is all faith based when the starting point is to accept the text as your moral compass. This is basically one of the most extreme cases vote pandering since Billy Graham declared that Christianity and Capitalism shared the same Christian values. This is not bible based, if anything it s
  2. I have no doubt that a business that won't serve a gay person won't hire someone they suspect is gay. Lets think this through, what about real estate agents, will they refuse to take them on as clients or just show them crappy houses. Will the AT&T repairman refuse to repair their lines? Will AT&T be able to fire that employee? Having grown up during the civil rights movement I heard so many times that God wanted the races separated. I have tendency to replace Gay with blacks when I read the various stories. I also see a door that is going to open in certain parts of the countr
  3. Malpractice suits do nothing to discourage malpractice. All the doctors pay malpractice for incompetent doctors. His premium might go up a bit which he will pass on to us. He will go right back into practice making the money as before. License suspension and even revoking it will do a lot more as far as protecting people. If anything the laws should change to include automatic suspension when they are found guilty of negligence.. The premiums will go down because there will be less suits. There has to be recourse that hurts when doctors are not fit to practice. An insurance company pay
  4. Thats right, lets pretend this has nothing to do with gay weddings. I won't entertain you.
  5. Are you going to force a gynecologist to perform heart transplants? I don't think so. There will always be clinics with doctors willing so it is a non-issue.
  6. Exactly my thoughts. I can't figure out why a Christian is supposed to discriminate against anyone. Jesus never pointed out anyone of any religion or background that they should discriminate against or shun. Christian groups go into cities to seek out the homeless, many are drug users and prostitutes. They don't give food to only the clean sinless homeless. This new law that is specifically addressing those people that don't want to serve gay people looks very bad on Christians. This law has nothing to do with the teachings of Christ. It would be interesting to see the reactions of Christi
  7. I think it may have something to do with getting older that waste really bothers me or the simply overwhelming amount of waste we produce. Packaging for small items is often enormous compared to the item. I now try to save all types of containers for gardening. I save seeds, put opened left over fertilizer in some. I actively look to re-purpose some of it. Of course I have saved many flats and gallon containers from plants I have purchased, but there is a limit to how many I need. It is not so much tree hugging as it is sheer volume that has started to bother me. I guess that goes for th
  8. I have been bringing my own reusable bags for the last few years. I hate 10-20 bags with only about 3 items in them. It is a pain to take them in and unload. It seems a horrible waste to throw that many in the garbage. No matter how many time we clean the cats litter box we can not use as many as we receive. Bottom line it is easier for me. I group things on the belt, and place the bag I want used for them on top. Usually 2-3 bags all the way full replace 10 plastic bags. I carry 3 bags up the steps and am able to put them away faster and easier. I also carry an insulated bag in case I w
  9. I don't care what side of tbis you are on. Cops are scared with good reason. If you don't do exactly what they say it may cost you your life. I hope none of your kidss take up your anti cop attitude and pay with their lives. By the way on the same yahoo news page an officer was shot to death today. That equates to qnother city police squad being just a little more jumpy.
  10. Really, we already pay for education, housing, food, medical, childcare, and public transportation. This is going to tax and hurt those that drive back and forth to work and pay the taxes that help those that can't or want work. Is it too much to ask for a break and let everyone that purchases anything in this state help us out. The tsplost was put together by mostly republicans in this state. They had compromised with those cities that were dependent on public transportation. Every county and city had drawn out a plan and knew exactly how each would benefit. Now they can appropriate it any wa
  11. The tsplost was a better idea and would have passed had it not been an election year. All those that worked on it and supported it backed away if they were up for re-election. It was a dirty thing to do. There is no question that we have to improve transportation in the state due to growth. We are all benefiting from this, yet we don't want to pay for the infrastructure to support it. What was most stupid is that a splost is voted for renewal. It also taxes all fairly. The working residents of Ga. are forced to pay for everything. People that didn't vote for that splost had their head i
  12. This is what comes from teaching children to want. They see something they want, you give it to them. You remember as a child wanting something very badly that you never got. Most of the time you felt that it was something your parents could afford. Generally other kids had it and you envied it. You don't want your kids to have those terrible feelings. Many times your parent did not bother to explain to you why. Simple answer is you don't appreciate things you don't earn and you will do what this girl did. How many grand parents and parents have been killed because a kid had gotten all
  13. I know a lot of people take issue with public transportation. Low wage inner city workers use it the most to make a living. The cost of driving a vehicle is through the roof. Insurance, maintenance, and fuel. It allows many families to stay off government assistance. The issue feels a little greasy to me since most of the people using it are supposedly minorities. Go to large northeastern states and you will see that it is not the case. It saves states money on wear and tear, and patrolling streets. The subways in NY are vibrant cities within a city, with shops and restaurants. Just because s
  14. Transportation Funding Act Is Amended, and Barely Passes Senate I am sure this is a proud day for the republicans of Ga. The Georgia State Senate passed House Bill 170, the Transportation Funding act by the smallest margin possible in the chamber by a vote of 29-25. All Democrats voted against the bill, along with Republicans John Albers of Roswell, Mike Crane of Newnan, Marty Harbin of Tyrone, Bill Heath of Bremen, Bill Ligon of Brunswick, Josh McKoon of Columbus, and Bruce Thompson of White. In addition, Republicans Bill Jackson of Appling and Jesse Stone of Waynesboro were excused, a
  15. I think eventually we will vote from home on consoles that we will be identified by a retina scan. The point is how will politics change, will more people vote because it is easy and convenient? As to your point El zorro, Who is to say that a bailout mailed to Joe Snuffy was actually completed and mailed back by Snuffy rather than somebody else? I believe it would be a massive undertaking to get enough ballots this way to change the outcome of an election. Someone would have to literally steal hundreds or thousands of ballots out of mail boxes. We are already experiencing the worse thing
  16. If they were voting we would be out of the war business period. It is not as hard as it seems. I listened to the waaa waa about the Russians, then the Chinese. I said all along that if you give the the women washing machines and makeup it is over and I was right. The majority of the working class all over the world wants life easier and better. Look at the Arabs versus the rest of the middle east. They are not interested in war. The ones that are, have had a hard life stuck in the lower classes and the idiots that can rule them because of it. You have to bring people along, not stand on their
  17. I am pretty sure Pubby knows, you might want to ask him nicely.
  18. Young people are more interested in technology now. We are educating our children to pass test. If the subject does not interest them, then they tend to forget. They are gaining knowledge that they will need using programs and computers. It will become much more complex in the future. At some point people our age will be left behind. Maybe we will not be allowed to vote because we don't have enough knowledge to understand how some technology can effect us positively or negatively. Remember when gaming a was useless skill, now they are flying drones over enemies. Our kids have had it easy and
  19. People are still testing positive for the flu. There was a nasty stomach bug that lasted a week or more that is still making the rounds. I usually stop worrying as much this time of year because I don't have little ones in school. Be glad it wasn't the flu!
  20. I have been propagating my Stelladoro lilies for years. They have been the only flowering plant that I have had success growing on a dry slope with a lot of tree roots. I started out planting six in an area with good soil and water so that they multiply quickly. Every year I cut away a plug around this time and divide it. You can put it in pots and let it mature a little before planting it in a bed. I have seen landscapers pair them with the knockout roses on sloped areas. It is a very pretty no maintenance grouping when they mulch it with pine straw.
  21. I think most of us that register, keep up with politics, then go to the poll to vote tend to be informed voters. I think people automatically registered might cast their votes based on a single issue verses the big picture of those more informed. I also think that less informed voters vote party line and I believe doing that has been the most detrimental to the US. I am sure special interest groups love it. The best way to win an election it to motivate people to vote based on a cause that interest them.
  22. My mother had it done. You need to be prepared mentally for it. You not only absorb less fat and calories you get less nutrition. My mother had some extreme changes such as the thinning of hair and nails. She lost about 100lbs. In my opinion her health deteriorated over the years. I was very upset with the way she ate. After the surgery your stomach is going to hold very little food, meaning less to get nutrients from. My mother chose many times to eat 2-3 cookies or packaged crackers. She had terrible blood sugar issues. She frequently snacked on candy 1/2 the day. When I confronted he
  23. Do you think it is possible that he was more afraid because the man was black? So many people talk about hate and racism. I think it is a fear issue. Black men are more afraid of being arrested and railroaded to jail and cops are more afraid that black men will do anything to keep from going to jail. Both sides are justified to an extent. The question is what is the solution. I have seen a lot of stories where the black people just don't think that they should be arrested and jailed for a pack of cigs or a joint. A lot of the resentfulness starts there and esculates. I saw an article where
