I started typing a long reply and realized it was probably a waste of time. People see what they want to see and believe what they want to believe. I know more about the right and what they believe than I do Democrats. I am not really sure what there party line is. If some of my beliefs are in line with it, so what. As an American have the right to be of either party, to agree or disagree with any of it I want to. I can vote for who I want to and don't have to answer to anyone for it. I doubt I will ever have faith in republicans ever again. Bush was the most successful Republican president i

Really, independent thought? Do you watch Fox news? The far right 24 hour editorial network. The hundreds of experts they parade across the screen that blather about what could happen but never does. They have to interpret every word of that the President says because they consider their audience to stupid to have their own opinion. You can say plenty of things about democrats and their beliefs but this one has no grounds in reality. Fox is the holy temple of the right. Their lies and twisting of the facts is overlooked by their cult following. When caught in their half truths their follower

I am interested in the facts because I think those are all opinions. I have listened to years of what could happen, most of it has not happened. Radical Islam is the result of generations bad Middle Eastern policies. He is nor supporting war on law enforcement he has been hands off and left it to the towns. Is he supposed to deny reality when some officers are being charged and convicted. I guess you want to believe that there is no blatant racism in this country, step out of the bubble. We are not weak militarily just because we don't indiscriminately drop bombs on the people Fox's so calle

I am sure they won't appeal the tax payer paying premiums for low income. My guess is they will drop the mandatory stuff so that insurance companies make more profit. My other guess is the mandatory purchasing of insurance will remain. This is just the insurance lobbyist trying to raise their profit margin.
-
They could not get that passed. I remember the fight well. They had to build in a guaranteed profit margin for the insurance companies. The original legislation would have put insurance out of business because for most the percentage of extra tax for health care would have been way under what people would pay in premiums, co-pay and deductible. They also changed it from direct pay from the government to paying premiums to insurance for low income.I was furious that my tax dollars are paying premiums to insurance. These were the changes that got it passed. You can't put an industry out of b

I am confused, most of the people that post here wanted insurance to stay in the game. They definitely defended their rights to make good profits. You are being charged more to keep their profit margin at the same percentage. Nothing has changed, they either short your care or short the Dr. or charge you more. The old issue of overturning health care reform is back on the table hopes are high for a republican president. Anybody think their premiums will go down? that more people will be insured? that Dr's and hospitals will be in the black? In states that did not take the federal money sma

You do see the difference between a kid and a handful of grown males acting suspiciously right? The clock issue could have been handled so discretely that even the kid would not have caught on. What a complete embarrassment to this country. They felt entitled to treat a child this way because he was a Muslim. I can only assume that many have no issue with women wearing the veil being accosted in the streets. It shows so much bravery going after women and children, they must be going by the same book that ISIS does when it abuses and kills women and children. Maybe the teacher had visions of gr

I know, I thought how stupid of him. Did he think he would radicalize them if they were profiled? Look at the lives he would have saved.
-
Well I can see ISIS got to you pretty easy, and you wonder how they are able to radicalize their people now you know intimately.

Our President is going to great lengths to make it clear that we are not in a religious war between Muslims and Christians. This is exactly what radical Islam is trying to achieve. These sleeper cells have been here since before 9/11. We already have Muslim women being harassed on the streets, This is what they want. The media has clearly become self perpetuating by escalating tension and drama. They purposely choose witnesses and supposed experts that will achieve this. I watched it unfold, it was the police and FBI that were reluctant to claim it as a terrorist act. You have to wonder wha

I read the headlines and articles every day. I watched television news for the first time in well over a month. I saw a little remark on facebook that totally changed how I looked at those headlines. The national news is always scary because there are usually multiple terrorist attacks in the middle east every day. There is also fear of allowing refugees in our country. A child is killed by a parent every day it seems. We have racial tension boiling over on a daily basis. We all know that anyone that commits mass murder or terrorism has mental issues. These people are especially vulnera

Sadly all but 2 are now closed. The tea room that sits behind the first Baptist may also still be set up for a restaurant. I think the only hope is for the city of Dallas to buy any land down there that goes on the market. They need to make a plan and decide what it is to be. I really believe they have taken solid steps with the fountains and sidewalks. I know when my kids and I go junkin we are looking for an area with 10 or more shops and at least 2-3 good restaurants. The city could do the outside renovations and be the landlord for the shops. It could also make offers on some of the bli

I hope nobody thinks that I am not supportive of the downtown businesses I am. It has great potential. There are 4 restaurants within walking distance of the square. I have been in the shops and they are adorable. With that said for whatever reason when people go down the street they are not inspired to park and go in. That is a problem that has to be addressed in some way. I have met many of the owners also, very nice people. With that said, there is no energy down there. That has to change to bring it to be a robust and successful area. It is not just downtown it is the same with econo

Let me tell you my perspective on this. I have seldom seen people want to see everyone be successful. I have seen plenty of envy of successful people. Many see every dollar that goes into the business next door as one less in their own pocket. I see folks that want to do the bare minimum but reap the most benefits. I have seen plenty of power drunk people do things because they can. I have seen a lot of entitlement. A lot of expectation of ass kissing. I have simply seen a lot of things that are not conductive to success and prosperity go on. The vision of our downtown areas is not share

Most of the property down there is owned by lifelong residents and it will be exactly how they want for as long as they want it, and some of them are the powers that be

One thing that RB hit on was schools. If we do decide that bedroom community is ultimately what we will become we had better improve our schools drastically. That is the one thing that the most successful bedroom communities have. Most people don't blink an eye at taxes and even commutes when it comes to their children's education. The more people talk about what they do and don't want here the more you see that many want a bedroom community. Money makes a bedroom community lots of it. Price the homes and the tax rates high enough to keep the riffraff out. You have minimum inexpensive ho

Parking does not support the number of customers needed for most businesses down there to be truly successful. Land would have to be purchased and some buildings torn down to do that. There are some other issues that have to do with the 3 problems I mentioned. It is not truly suitable for restaurant and retail as it is. They don't have a real big tax base, it has grown with some annexing. The college is also taking up most of the parking and no return to existing businesses there. It will eventually need to change with businesses geared to the students or completely fail.

I can help address some of the issues with the Downtown area. These leases are very inexpensive, the minimum of renovation has been done on most of the buildings. These small businesses are the ones that feel the hardest impact of commuting out of the county for work. You can't raise the rents because they don't make enough to pay higher rents. Many of the businesses are geared towards leisure time and disposable income. Most of the people passing through are trying to avoid the back up of traffic turning right to go to north 61. College kids are not interested in the businesses down the

What I see is a needy parent creating a needy child. The lack of spousal bonding does not create a very secure family environment. On top of that the child may have the same issues with bonding with their own spouse in the presence of a child in their own life. I would not be surprised if the marriage was not also devoid of spousal affection, which is a basic human need. You do not help a child when you neglect your marriage. Maybe the lady questioning the co-sleeping has the same concerns.

Happy Thanksgiving everyone! I will be watching parades and cooking this morning! I get excited like a little kid over family time! I hope everyone cherishes all those that sit down to the table with them.

I could not agree more. Showing blatant lack of respect and support when we are under attack is beyond the pale. People could care less about the consequences of the rhetoric they spew. There is so little fact to support much of it. Facts have simply become something to be ignored and shouted over. I think the extent of the manipulation of public opinion for profit is even scarier than terrorist. We can ban together and fight terrorism. The rhetoric divides us and will destroy us before it is all said and done. I am not sure why the American people don't demand the factual truth from a

I am not judging, when my kids were little they only ate meat, corn, potatoes, green beans, carrots and bread. We would go to Ryans so we did not end up with leftovers of stuff they wouldn't eat. Ryans use to be a lot better 20 years ago. Mother-in-law moved to Florida with extended family so we started going there. The kids only went a few years until they moved out. We had separate Thanksgiving for years, now they have their own homes we get together at theirs. I totally understand the small Thanksgiving thing.

Dang! Look at what happens when you chow down Thursday

One of the things about getting older the list gets longer of those no longer around the table. The loudest and rowdiest leave the biggest empty spaces at the table. I can see in my mind so many faces from a generation almost totally gone. Then there are the ones you thought would be there for many years that no longer need a chair. The hardest are the matriarchs and patriarchs the glue that you feel can never be replaced. You do it any way, you make it happen, you rally around another loved one at another table. You honor them with the continuation because in your heart you know they wo
