ATLANTA, Ga. (CBS46) – Police are investigating a fatal wreck that occurred after a truck crashed through fencing on a bridge on Akers Mill Road and landed on the interstate below.

The driver has been identified as 33 year-old Dennis Favre of Dallas, Ga. There were no other individuals in the vehicle.

Favre was driving a 2007 Chevrolet Silverado just before 12:45 p.m. Monday when he took the I-75 HOV ramp to Akers Mill Road "at a high rate of speed."  The driver flew through the intersection, crashed through a concrete barrier and plunged into the concrete median below.

  2. I bought a larger tv for the bedroom about 4 years ago. My husband was like why didn't you get high def. I said it's just the bedroom tv this one will do. Of course we had one in the living room I thought it had a good picture. We would pass them in Sm's and he would say look at how good that picture looks. Hubby bought a new high def tv for the bedroom a couple of weeks ago and said see how good that is. I can't tell much difference in the picture I don't know why we had to get another one. He kind of shrugged it off.

A few months ago I started getting mild head aches that would come and go. They started getting worse over time. A few weeks ago a friend held out her I phone to show me something while watching tv. When I tried to focus on it I felt like someone hit me between the eyes with a mallet.

So of course I head to the eye doctor and sure enough I need glasses. I have been using strong readers for years, which she said were way to strong. I have been trying to wear the glasses more to get used to them.

So a few days ago I started watching tv with them.

It took an hour or so and THEN I SAW IT!

HIGH DEFINITION TV! :clapping:I kid you not!

Now I get it🤣  I had never seen it before. Never seen the big deal about it until I got these glasses.

Deputies and firefighters made the discovery just before 1 p.m. after someone called 911 and reported a car fire, according to sheriff’s office spokesman Tyler McSwain.

When officials extinguished the burning car in the 2100 block of Vinson Mountain Crossing in Rockmart, they found a body inside.

The sheriff’s office is investigating the incident as a murder and arson, McSwain said.

  4. Three teens arrested in connection with Hiram convenience store robbery

Three people, including two teen girls and a teen boy, have been arrested in connection with the armed robbery of a Racetrac convenience store in Hiram early Tuesday, the police chief said today.

Hiram Police Chief Jamison Sailors said those charged included "two 16-year-old white females" and John Williams, 18, who lives in Paulding County with a Temple address.

  5. Perry Brickman’s book tells hidden truth: Jews were forced out of Emory

In 1954, at the end of his freshman year at Emory University’s dental school, Ronald Goldstein was called into the office of Dean John E. Buhler, who told him he was on the verge of failing.

“You’re right on the curve,” said Buhler, “I could flunk you or pass you, but to tell you the truth, I don’t know why you Jews want to be dentists. You don’t have it in your hands.”

Goldstein didn’t flunk out. He was among the few Jewish students at Emory in the 1950s who graduated after four years of study.

  6. UPDATE: Attempted Child Abduction Was False Alarm, Sheriff Says

Surveillance footage from a nearby camera showed a white van in the area, similar to what the girl said the man was driving.

Authorities were later able to find the man. He was at the time delivering for "a popular package delivery service," the release says.

Detectives spoke with the girl, who said she wasn't sure if the man was talking to her or into his cellphone. She was scared, the release says, causing her to run home and talk to her mother.

"At this time, due to the inconsistency of the alleged juvenile victim's story combined with the fact that the male delivery driver has been more than cooperative, there will be no charges filed in this case," the release says.

  7. Ex-officer says Hiram officials discriminated against him because of age, health and 'speaking out'

A longtime Hiram police officer alleges that city officials demoted him because of his age, made him work while he was on medical leave following a heart attack, and subjected him to an unlawful “fit for duty” test upon his return.

He also said he was fired in October 2018 in part because of his “refusal to stay quiet about unlawful practices” of the city of Hiram, the city manager and its former police chief.

’Neal’s complaint, filed by Atlanta attorney Mario Williams Aug. 13, said the violations occurred as O’Neal “had been reporting instances of the city of Hiram and its employees’ harassment and discrimination, a hostile work environment, and engaging in unlawful employment practices, such as requiring him to take a ‘fit for duty’ test upon his return to work, knowing he had been on medical leave.”

  9. Hiram police investigating early morning armed robbery of convenience store near hospital

Hiram Police are investigating after a masked, female robber armed with a gun cleared out the cash register of a convenience store near WellStar Paulding Hospital early today.

Chief Jamison Sailors of the Hiram Police Department said detectives had identified some possible suspects but were still investigating late this afternoon.

He said officers were dispatched to a report of an armed robbery in progress at RaceTrac at the corner of U.S. Hwy. 278 and Bill Carruth Parkway around 12:15 a.m. today, Aug. 20.

A white female "was dropped off near the store in a gold/tan truck" and entered the store, he said.

  11. Paulding has little or no resources for the homeless. I think it would be great. It could also be converted to a mental health facility or drug rehab.

Prisons are about locking people in, you don't have to lock the doors. Canvas could be used for privacy. A huge concern for homeless women and children is security. They could be housed safely. Churches and volunteers could cook and drive people to job interviews and jobs until they get on their feet. With the senior citizens across the street there is an awesome opportunity to bring young children and older adults together. If we continue to grow that area for industrial it could put people closer to higher wage job opportunities. With a recession on the way the need may be greater than ever.  We have invested a lot of money in that facility over the years and I believe it should continue to serve the taxpayer.

  14. Paulding County’s Nichols family in finals of ABC’s ‘Family Food Fight’

Paulding County’s the Nichols family has a shot at taking home the $100,000 prize Thursday for ABC’s first season of “Family Food Fight.”

The Nichols, in the meantime, have been underdogs from the start, their country twang and focus on Southern food making it easy to under-estimate them.

Tammy Nichols, 50, a retired project manager with an architectural background, runs a popular “Collard Valley Cooks” YouTube channel with 43,000 subscribers. “I can make art on a plate,” she said. Her motto: “Cook just like my mama did.”

With all due respect. A support beam shifting on a structure is only "not dangerous" as long as there is no one in that area above or below. A shifting support beam is the definition of a structure being "in danger" of at least a partial collapse.

Of course "shifting" could mean a 1/4" or 6'. The degree of shift would indicate the degree of danger.

That is a ton of responsibility ( pun intended ). I applaud them for first of all noticing or taking someone who did seriously and taking action. The next question is why because engineering and design is not cheap nor is concrete work on that scale. Large projects such as that end to go to the same companies over and over. The vetting process should be transparent yet is not always. A lot of tax dollars are given to hospitals and in this case private donors gave a lot too. Everyone makes mistakes but as far as I am concerned if this is major, this companies work should be looked into. I wonder if this was the company that poured the concrete at the airport. Maybe someone knows. Hopefully these contracts are not being handed out based on donations to public entities.

There was a Wellstar hospital board meeting yesterday and President John Kueven explained that  currently there are approximately 50 spaces marked off due to slight shifting on the support beam.  He said it was not dangerous at this time, but Wellstar wanted to be proactive and make sure there was no more shifting and that all areas were inspected. The process will take at least a few weeks and in order to provide parking for patients/visitors the employees will be parking offsite and be shuttled to the hospital.

Thank you Kim for the update.

Not a funny ... but a real story.  It appears our great leader is wanting to transform the Internet so that the FTC and FCC can stop large sites that discriminate against all the conservative posters who know that hate speech is really not hate speech, it is conservatism and conservatism is the only truth.

    Do I exaggerate?

PS:  The effort seems to come from an Executive order (Kings edict) and it will effect the way the government interprets section 230 of the DMCA to limit the right of website owners to moderate sites that accept user content.  Gizmodo, (source of the link) says if the draft EO is adopted, it will 'break the internet' ... making for a new test of the concept that anything Donald touches dies.  Heck, there is a book about that. and you can get as a free audiobook

Why would you bring the president into this? Please quit making everything about politics. Don't bother to explain why you did please don't do it again. Politics beyond GA are dead on p.com.

  19. 8Chan Refugees Blow Their Anonymity

Refugees from the anonymous 8chan forum are flooding into a new censorship-resistant home on the dark web, and inadvertently giving up their anonymity along the way.

A reincarnated version of the hate-filled forum, now linked to three mass shootings, appeared Monday when the original 8chan lost its hosting service. The new site, called 08chan (with a leading zero), has no affiliation with the original and it’s not entirely clear who set it up, but 8chan’s diaspora have been flooding in as word of the site spreads through right-wing social media.

  20. Please take the time to read the entire article. The information contained in it impacts our taxes.

My take away from this article,

Those of us that remember the pre-reccession building boom then the actual recession understood some truths that may have been forgotten.

Our county was hit especially hard due to home builders reigning as the king of industry here. We were still required by state law to build schools for the children that recently moved to Paulding.

We found later that most of the prime real estate in Paulding had gone to residential development.  After that much of our infrastructure and prime real estate went to retail and restaurant neither of which impacts our tax digest in any significant way.

It was brought to our attention that our lack of industrial growth had left us in pretty bad shape.

It looks like to me that we are vulnerable to being in the same predicament endlessly. The way that this article reads they can create plans, have discussions with the BOE, IBA and any other department effected by their zoning and land use decisions, but there is no law that restricts their ultimate decision.

So we just trust that we have elected people to the BOC to make the best decision rather than create laws that make them seek agreement from other county entities that are allowed to tax us, and in-debt us to meet the needs of our citizens.

I have to say the lack of law here concerns me greatly. It leaves a lot of room for suspicion of motivation when these decisions are made. It pushes accountability in tidy little circle that lacks true accountability.
