  1. One has to ask oneself when bombastic delivery of half truths and out right lies became preferable to being given a set of facts with little or no inflection as to influence a person to agree with the reporters opinion on the report.

When did reality become blurred along with the consequences. When did memories become as long as the next big story. There is no continuum where we see an action then trace the consequences back to it whether it be 6 minutes ago, six weeks, six years or sixty years.

When did we stop having our own set of standards and choosing leadership to conform to them rather than lowering our standards and expectations to those that want to lead us, to those we hand the power over our lives to. Are we a bunch of children crying for shiny things and we don't care how we get them or the cost.

  2. Honesty is the best policy

A good decision was never made based on a lie

How can it be that we have generations of people that have never seen a retraction in a newspaper. A retraction is when a news source has gotten a fact wrong many times after researching and validating the details and facts of a story. Why would they print a retraction after all they are the gatekeepers of the news and information.

The answer is simple printing lies as facts would be the end of a news agency.

Why, there was a time when Americans cherished their democracy above all things. They realized you could not have a true democracy without a gate keeper of the truth. The gatekeeper was the American people. The people that would turn on a news source caught lying.

We live in a time when there is no standard of truth. Where there is no journalism and truth there are only self serving people of power.

There are no retractions on the internet, only a form of tribalism where people seek what they like or want and follow it with almost religous fervor.

  3. Good fences make good neighbors

What could have been done differently, I am not sure. How do you contain human nature within boundaries, how do you enforce those boundaries yet leave enough room for individualism. I think politeness goes a long way. Politeness is the giving of respect and kindness first, not making people earn it. It is walking in someone's shoes. Can you have rules that force politeness. I see other social media sites trying. The people that test that conviction often leave on their own accord. I find they are looking for conflict or are not willing to accept others differences without creating conflict. I think rules that enforce politeness may have merit. We will see how it works out.

  4. I recognize the truth of some of the sayings I grew up with from my time on P.com.

I don't think that that law, order and civility came about easily. I think it was hard won and in some circumstances painful.

Maybe a generation or 2 that only knew that civility no longer treasured it. We certainly have less and less appreciation for rules that gave it to us and sought to help us keep it if we desired. Rules and laws are not the same things. Rules are a choice that come with consequences often  devised by those that make the rules. Then there are rules with consequences that are almost impossible to avoid because of human nature.

My grandmother said times change but people do not. I now understand the laws of human nature. Much of it I saw play out on this site.

  5. I wonder if anyone still gets notifications. This place seemed wild in the day. Now look at social media and the crazy it is now.

I joined in 2007 seems like not that long ago.

I remember how much I loved it in the beginning, the news, people having fun.

Then I saw the ugly part. I wondered back then why people would choose ugly when they could choose fun and lifting others up.

I also discovered how contagious that behavior is.

  6. I am trying to find out about a political PAC.

It is supposedly called the West Ga. Values PAC run by G.Patton Hughes and the Paulding county Democratic party. They are supposedly using it to support Republican candidate for district 13 Boyd Austin against his opponent Jason Antivitarte. I can't find the PAC by google and ll I hear are rumors When I first saw it I thought it was a "Karen" meme it was so ridiculous.

  7. Paulding industrial development agency OKs land deal for new business park

Paulding County’s Industrial Building Authority is buying land to develop a new business park near Ga. Hwy. 92 in Hiram as it works to complete a deal to sell a site to a tire maker in west Dallas.

The building authority has agreed to buy a 127-acre tract on Bill Carruth Parkway at Laird Road in Hiram for development of a park, said authority director Robert Crouse.

Crouse did not disclose the price but said it was “reasonable” and will allow it to compete for buyers without taking a loss.

The site is about a half-mile west of Carruth Parkway’s intersection with Ga. Hwy. 92, also known as Hiram-Douglasville Highway.

GDOT is widening and rebuilding Hwy. 92 between Hiram and Douglasville which will give southeast Paulding County — including the building authority’s site — and western Cobb County quicker access to I-20.

“That is some really prime property,” Crouse said.

He said the building authority is “going to try to be frugal” with the money it received earlier this year from the sale of Atlanta Film Studios.

  8. Cobb doctors blamed for man's death, Kaiser Permanente settles with widow

The widow of a 25-year-old man who died in February 2016 of testicular cancer has received a confidential payout from Kaiser Permanente, as a settlement in her wrongful death lawsuit against the national health provider and two of its physicians.

Alabama resident Courtney Stephens, who used to live with her husband Ryan Stephens in Paulding County, claimed two doctors at Kaiser Permanente’s West Cobb Medical Center in Austell neglected to perform standard tests on her late husband, leading to his cancer going undiagnosed for over six months and his subsequent death.

Her lawsuit against Drs. Audra Ford and Barry Mason as well as Kaiser Permanente was filed in the State Court of Fulton County on Oct. 16, 2017.

  9. Paulding County offering deal to encourage Costco to finalize store site purchase.

Paulding County will spend a half-million dollars to help develop the future site of big-box retailer Costco as part of the government’s effort to encourage the retailer to build a new store near Dallas.

The Paulding County Board of Commissioners voted Tuesday, Oct. 22, for development agreements with Costco and a Woodstock-based company from which the retailer is nearing a purchase of 21 acres on Ga. Hwy. 120, also known as Charles Hardy Parkway, in Dallas.

The county’s contribution to the project will be taken from its budget reserves and total about $510,000 for road and sewer system improvements and installation of traffic signal equipment, officials said.

It will not be done if Costco does not complete the purchase it has been negotiating with Woodstock-based 1260 Airport Drive LLC since 2018, the agreements stated.

According to the county’s development agreement, 1260 Airport Drive has the planned store site “under contract” with Costco — which typically means the seller has accepted the buyer’s offer but the sale is not yet completed.

  10. Paulding Defendant Sentenced to Two Consecutive Life Sentences for 2002 Double Murder

On September 27th 2019, Paulding Superior Court Judge T. David Lyles sentenced Andrew Shadrix to the maximum punishment possible for the 2002 murder of Jeffrey Jackson and Shad English. In September of 2002, Jeffrey and Shad were shot to death; their bodies were put in the trunk of a car and driven to Fulton County. An extensive investigation was conducted by multiple law enforcement agencies but no charges were brought at the time of the murder.

Following new leads, Deputies with the Paulding County Sheriff’s Office working with the Paulding County District Attorney’s Office, took up the investigation. These efforts resulted in the Defendant giving a full confession.

The 2002 sentencing provisions do not allow for a sentence of life without the possibility of parole. At the sentencing hearing, the State, through Chief Assistant District Attorney Matthew Rollins, requested the maximum punishment possible and Judge Lyles agreed. Andrew Shadrix was sentenced to two consecutive life sentences. This means that the second life sentence will not start until after the first.

While we can never bring back the victims of this senseless act of violence, we hope that this brings some level of closure to the victim’s families. We would like to thank the Paulding County Sheriff’s Office, the Atlanta Police Department, the Fulton County Medical Examiner’s Office, the Cobb County Police Department, and the Federal Bureau of Investigation for the hard work and dedication they have shown in this case.

    Hello everyone,

I wanted to reach out as we have recently taken over management of the Paulding Plaza shopping center off Merchants Dr. We have owed the center for some time and have removed the management company and are going to manage it in house. Since taking over the Plaza we have been working tirelessly to attract new tenants and help to lift the Plaza back up to it's previous status. In a few weeks a new restaurant concept we have leased to will be opening in the former Huddle House named Frannick's Cafe, the owner Nick is an experienced operator and a great guy who is setting up an amazing concept. All our operators are small business owners who we want to see thrive, and I wanted to reach out to the community for any input on what we could do to bring people back to the Plaza. We have some exciting prospects for new tenants, but I want to leave my door open for any input people may have. We want to be good neighbors to the community and listen to feedback from the residents. Feel free to respond below or email me directly at andrew@habifproperties.com

Thanks to everyone and hopefully you will start seeing some big changes at the Plaza soon!

I doubt any vote was involved, the facility has always been available since it was built and It's always cost money to rent it on the weekend.    We paid for the use of the large ballroom for our daughter's and a friend's graduation party in 2016.  As I recall it was $400 or so for the day to decorate and use.     50K seems kinda high, unless that was for the entire year and for the entire building.

The same thing happens when the school system rents the gym at a school for services.      I'm happy that the county facility is being used.

I don't mind it being used. Schools are not used for other purposes on Sundays or even Sunday nights or Wednesdays. Renting it out would not prevent the use of it as intended. My question is would renting it out prevent the use of other activities in the building during church services. I wish the OP would elaborate on where the money goes. We have built a lot of new parks and we are maintaining them at taxpayers expense.

Apparently our tax funded new burnt hickory park building cannot be used by the public on ANY SUNDAY because the county without voting has rented it to a church for $50,000 not only will we not see any of that money put back in our parks but what is the counties responsibility in this situation,

    No racket ball?

  15. Teen goes ‘blind’ from 7-year diet of french fries, white bread and ham slices, doctors say

This is an extreme case. I have known some picky eaters that I have health concerns for. I think that as a whole we are less concerned about the effects of bad diets because we have never seen the results of malnutrition up close. We have so many foods available to us now we don't take it seriously. I have said many times we need to have comprehensive nutrition curriculum starting as early as first grade. I have known many children that simply don't have tools to eat properly and stay healthy.

An extreme case of “fussy eating” caused blindness in a United Kingdom teenager, according to a report published Monday in the Annals of Internal Medicine.

When Denize Atan, the study’s lead author, met the 17-year-old boy at Bristol Eye Hospital, his eyesight had been deteriorating for two years. But what shocked her most was “how long the patient’s eating behaviour had persisted,” Atan wrote in an email Tuesday to The Washington Post. “By the time I first met him, he had followed the same diet for [approximately seven] years.”

By 15, the boy’s hearing began failing, and then the vision complications arrived. Doctors could not determine what was causing either symptom.

After two years of progressive vision loss, the boy was declared legally blind. Additional testing uncovered that his vitamin B12 deficiency had not waned. He had also developed a reduced bone mineral density level, and had high levels of zinc and low levels of copper, selenium and vitamin D.

  16. Georgia Republican Sen. Johnny Isakson will resign at the end of year, he announced Wednesday, citing health concerns.

Washington (CNN)Georgia Republican Sen. Johnny Isakson will resign at the end of year, he announced Wednesday, citing health concerns.

"After much prayer and consultation with my family and my doctors, I have made the very tough decision to leave the U.S. Senate at the end of this year. I have informed Georgia Governor Brian Kemp today that I will resign my Senate seat effective December 31, 2019," Isakson said in a statement.
"I am leaving a job I love because my health challenges are taking their toll on me, my family and my staff. My Parkinson's has been progressing, and I am continuing physical therapy to recover from a fall in July. In addition, this week I had surgery to remove a growth on my kidney," he added.
