What influences your opinions about what is in our food supply ?
ButterflyLion replied to surepip's topic in RECENT TOPICS
That's what caused severe problems for the young woman in the Consumer Reports video: Alexis Sarti was a cross country runner in high school. But four years ago, she suffered extensive nerve damage after eating at a California restaurant. Sarti says, "I still have problems. I'll never be able to run or walk very far." Alexis sued the restaurant, alleging her food was cross-contaminated with bacteria from raw poultry. -

Consumer Reports stated: "You would think that after years of alarms about food safety—outbreaks of illness followed by renewed efforts at cleanup—a staple like chicken would be a lot safer to eat." They have "consumer" as a part of there name: Consumer Reports. They exist for the consumer. They are interested in educating consumers. That's their mission. -

Let us know what you think. Netflix has it, too: Get Low (2009) PG-13 Oscar winners Robert Duvall and Sissy Spacek team up to tell the true story of irascible Felix Bush, a backwoods Tennessee loner who planned his funeral in 1938 while he was still around to attend -- and enjoy -- the proceedings. Director Aaron Schneider's deft blend of dark humor and poignancy also stars Bill Murray as Frank Quinn, the huckster owner of a failing funeral home, and Lucas Black as his dubious assistant. Did you watch the video on the Consumer Reports website? It illustrates several practices for eliminating cross contamination: http://www.consumerreports.org/cro/video-hub/latest/latest/unsafe-chicken/18303161001/60823064001/ -

The question I asked was: What are the schools there like? I asked because I'm hoping the schools are an improvement over the housing. If they are they could provide a temporary way of escape during the school day for the children---and a permanent way to escape through an education. -

You brought up the subject of bacteria. Consumer Reports feels the levels of bacteria are higher than they could be. -

If that's true how do you account for the following? You would think that after years of alarms about food safety—outbreaks of illness followed by renewed efforts at cleanup—a staple like chicken would be a lot safer to eat. But in our latest analysis of fresh, whole broilers bought at stores nationwide, two-thirds harbored salmonella and/or campylobacter, the leading bacterial causes of foodborne disease. That's a modest improvement since January 2007, when we found that eight of 10 broilers harbored those pathogens. -

What interest does Consumer Reports have in reporting anything that isn't the truth? Consumer Reports said that percentage wise they found more bacteria than in 2003: Campylobacter was in 62 percent of the chickens, salmonella was in 14 percent, and both bacteria were in 9 percent. Only 34 percent of the birds were clear of both pathogens. That's double the percentage of clean birds we found in our 2007 report but far less than the 51 percent in our 2003 report. -

Consumer Reports did an article about bacteria found in chicken. There is also a video posted at the link: How safe is that chicken? Prayer Request For My Mom: Possible Stroke: UPDATE
ButterflyLion replied to ButterflyLion's topic in RECENT TOPICS
My Mom is being treated for an infection that reached her brain through her bloodstream where it is causing symptoms. I had never heard of this before so I looked online. Some sources say the brain damage can be permanent depending on how quickly it is treated. I believe that in her case it will be temporary. I read that it is often misdiagnosed as senior dementia or Alzheimers disease so I am thankful the hospital made the correct diagnosis. I want to thank everyone for their prayers. I hope maybe our experiences will help someone else to learn about this. -
Prayer Request For My Mom: Possible Stroke: UPDATE
ButterflyLion replied to ButterflyLion's topic in RECENT TOPICS
I appreciate everyone of you who read my post and everyone that shared your experiences. Thank you so much for your prayers. My Mom has lived by herself since my Dad passed away 7 years ago. Not long ago her doctor said that she had signs of having had several mini strokes. Her main symptom now is confusion; incomplete sentences, trouble focusing, etc. I am thankful she is able to speak. I don't know much about stroke symptoms. My sister called, but she just told me that they are doing tests; a CAT scan and I don't know what else. -
I talked to my sister a few minutes ago. My Mom may have had a stroke. She lives in another state. My sister will call me when the hospital tells her more. I would appreciate any prayers.

This one should be easy for some of you: Posted 23 March 2007 - 03:56 PM Just got off the phone with Tunnel West Foreman & he said they got word this morning on the schedule for Spring Break Week, since many of the workers will take that week to travel back to wherever they are from to visit. The tunnels will conduct NO TOURS during Spring Break. The only work that will be going full force will be the Ridge Road Tunnel's main ventiliation system, but that will only mean about 100 workers out of nearly 1800 right now in Paulding & another 500 in Polk/Bartow. The crews w

Surely not. You told me who the first orange member was, etc. You remember all the history of Paulding County. I think you must be selling yourself short.

I thought it was a pretty odd subject so I was wondering if anyone would remember it. I wonder if he remembers posting it? If Pubby ever made this into a game you would be good at it. It could be played in person with teams. The teams could choose an answer from a list of multiple choices for who made a certain post. Johnny Jacobs would need to be on another team or y'all would win for sure.

Right. Did you know that from just reading it or did you use the search feature?

I saw where the design with the built-in computer was mentioned several months ago. Does anyone know when consumers will begin using them? The computer feature helps with security issues and can load more than one account on one card; for example a personal account and a corporate account on one card: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FkqLHso4rGg
