Yea, I looked all over for the fine print of who paid for it. Last I remember it was the law that any political mailing had to have the group that paid for it on there. I remember some of Heath's last mailers had it in dark blue ink on black background in size 6 print. Really crappy. Of course, Heath's people will probably claim that it's not political, 'cause it doesn't say "Vote" anywhere on the letter. @#%$^&*!!! I would bet that they added the line at the bottom, "THIS IS AN ATTEMPT TO COLLECT AD DEBT FROM BILL CARRUTH" just to avoid calling this a "political" letter. And

There was plenty of fat in Sherin's last budget, I think Austin has done a good job in getting rid of it. In hard times, you get rid of the fat. However, sooner or later you start cutting meat, then at that point, a rate increase to hold the revenue line becomes required. Just sucks that they have to do it at the same time they jack my value up.

No, but then the military is allowed to discipline people who get out of line, the school system is punished if they do. I believe that public school should be like the Hope, maintain a "B" average or better, go on the public purse. Maintain a "C" average, pay $$ to be able to go or stay home and the parents be responsible for babysitting them.

You'd think that parents would encourage their children to study hard and do well in school but the Govt has mandated that. What is the difference?

And deals with about everyone else in the state. Almost every election has one or more of the "Constitutional Amendments" which involve somebody not having to pay property taxes or income tax or some kind of tax any more. They make it sound so wonderful, but you have to figure, if all these people are not paying that tax any more, where's the money coming from? That's right, the rest of us. What I don't understand is that the liberals think that everyone paying for health insurance is a good thing, but everyone paying taxes to support our government is bad thing. Somebody explain th

Try a 100% increase in sales taxes on the car (new or used), since there is no sales tax on a car now, only the 7% "property" tax. Not to mention that the cost for the sales tax is real money out of his pocket, the time savings may be "worth" something, but will put no money back in his pocket. That $120 is gone along with all the gas money they've spent. The only real savings would be the five minutes of gasoline a day that is not spent idling. Definitely good, but not near what could saved if his job wasn't 20-30 miles from his house. Imagine if we took the money from the 1% f

I have to admit that the comment on Tommy was a knee jerk reaction to the double wammie of the rate hitting on top of the value increase. I wondered why they didn't do a bigger rate increase in the last two years to keep up. I think I would have handled it better last year when at least my value stayed the same. (That's right no drop in two years in a row!) Mine was 13%, my neighbor was 17% up this year.

I don't have a problem with a millage rate change. To me, it's not really a tax hike when the county budget is still lower than it was 3-4 years ago. The Fire tax is same thing if you look at the revenues from 4 years ago at 2 mil vs now. (Beats the heck out of Sherin's "We lowered the mil rate" tax hikes we got for years!) But Pubby's blanket statement that it will average out to be nil affect to everyone doesn't tell the whole story. I'm just noting that even though it's not a "Tax Hike" it will still raise taxes on many people like myself. I was already looking at $400 or so

Sigh. Yea, on "average" the affect will be nil, but for individuals the affect can be anything but minor. All average means is that for those who change, there will be 50% paying more and 50% paying less than they did last year. As individuals, if you are in the wrong 50%, we should prepare to be screwed over. And if you are like me and one of those who had their values inflated 13% to 17% in this "down" market, the double wammy of two millage rate increases and the value increase will really hit me in the wallet. Anybody running against Graham that I can donate to their campaign?

And when you said "other people's money" you meant it... he won't pay his money.... JK Rogers. I don't think I want either of these two.

He helped change the property taxes on cars where instead of paying it over time, you get to pay the whole thing up front when you buy either a new or used car, taking that income away from the county and giving it to the state so they can spend it somewhere else or hold it over the county's head to make them ignore the local citizens and follow the state line. That's good, isn't it? -
:D Which Local Option Sales Tax was that? Let's see there are the LOST (Property Tax Relief)- permanent ELOST (Education - currently used to Bond payment Property Tax Relief)- renewable SPLOST (Special Purpose - Currently used DOT, Public Service, Parks and Rec)- renewable and now TSPLOST (Transportation Special Purpose - Regional Funding of various projects)- renewable State sales tax of 4% to the General Fund For a total of 8% of everything you purchase. Do we *really* want to do this? I don't.

^This^ - Once we agree to pay the money we have zero, zip, nada, no control over what happens. We are trusting that politicians 5 years from now will keep the "promises". Besides, the promises are so vague it's silly. "Fix the traffic Knot!" Right, with what, studies? "Can you say TSPLOST 2 - It's not a tax increase, it's a continuation of the tax you already pay!" I can hear it now. Looks like the engineering firms (that donate to the right politicians) will be getting lots of our tax money. That will really "Fix the traffic Knot"

But it only goes in their hands by taking it *OUT* of mine!! That will be $300 I won't be spending in Paulding. Might have to cut my Pcom subscription and stop eating dinner's out at local restaurants to pay the extra tax on my groceries. Did you notice that they did slip in that the TSPLOST *will* be applied to car purchases along with the new 7% property tax? So that will raise my payment and take more money from local businesses. Plus, I suspect that less than 50% of those funds taken out of my hands will go to wages to be spent in Georgia. Infrastructure is very materials based,

I found this to be the big downfall of a fan in the South. In the Spring we would find pollen all *over* the house and our noses would be completely messed up if we turned it on. Same in the fall, except no pine pollen that we could see. We had one for 8 years and could count on one hand the # of times we used it. Now if you took the time to build air filter holders for one window in each room and then ran it, it might work out even here. Only way to keep it quieter and get any airflow is to make it BIG. (Still won't be quiet). Also get a multi-speed, so you can

Yea, and the school board said classrooms were the reason they needed the ESPLOST passed and then spend most of it on Gyms and the BOE headquarters that were listed as afterthoughts. THen needed the bond just to finish the first school because they spent it all on other items. Just because the projects in Paulding are listed as part of the plan don't mean they will get done. The key is there is no promise of what *order* the money will be spent. Who determines that? I don't know. So we might pay for the next 8 years and only get a few token items in the last two *if* they haven't spen

I'm voting no. Too much money being spent trying to get it passed. Freaking signs everywhere, big billboards, etc. When that much money is behind it, I have to wonder why and who is going to get the benefit of it. Besides, we have the 1% SPLOST here in Paulding for our roads, I'd rather the money stay in county. Double it maybe. Taxes don't make jobs. Taxes take away jobs. That 1% of everything I buy will be $3000 or so I don't spend in local businesses or that I spend on the internet where I don't pay any sales tax. Yea, that will help Ga business.

Once you get your internet up, you can get your once a year free credit report on line in a few minutes. check out: http://www.ftc.gov/bcp/edu/microsites/freereports/index.shtml This will point you to the actual com site to get your reports. My MIL found her SS number was in assigned to another address in Greystone power when they have been at the same address for 55 years as Ga power. Later Tmobile wrote them a letter that there was $2300 cellular bill that they were coming after her for because it was her SS#. I'd pull the report and see if there are any accounts you don't rec

I had never heard of this and found it fascinating that they have found this much evidence under the North Sea. Due to the same lower sea levels between 18000 BC and 5500 BC, like the land bridge between what is now Russia and Alaska, most of what is now the North Sea bottom was dry land and it appears, to have been home to groups of people. Full Article Fishermen have been pulling mammoth bones off the North Sea floor! This map shows the area involved: I think it's pretty cool. Of course, what I want to know is when are we going to find their power plants and c

If the dryer is pushing the moist air out the vent, air has got to come in the house somewhere to replace it, basement or not. That is why I want to put in another intake that goes straight to the dryer, that way the outside air goes in the dryer, then back out without entering the living space. I thought about opening the window in the laundry room and closing the door and vent, but my wife (who does most of the washing veto'd that idea faster than Obama vetoing a tax break for millionaires.

do any of you have double pane, insulated windows? Yep, standard in 2000 when the house was built do any of you have extra insulation in your house? Yep, the outside walls are 2x6 instead of 2x4 so I have R-19 in the walls and 14+ inches in the attic space how many people live there? 5 adults how many loads of dishes and clothes do you wash in a week? 20-25 I guess. We do have a front loading Maytag, water bill dropped 30% the month after we replaced the top loader with it. how many showers and bathes are taken each day? 5-6, one son works outside a lot, ou
