Have we sunk so low as a society that people bitch every time someone gets some help when they've fallen on hard times? Yes, there are people who screw the system but most do not and I'm sure for those who have worked hard and never taken government assistance, it must be gut-wrenching to do so. For every asshole we see abusing these programs, there are many who are feeding their children or those who've lost their jobs and cannot find work and need to eat. I'm lucky I have a decent job and am glad to see those who need some help get it.

I worked at a restaurant and had an incident where a female employee hit me. She didn't hurt me but I was talked into filing a report and though I felt a little embarrassed, I filed the report anyway. The officer was professional, understanding, and told me I did the right thing. He needs to do this.

He can file an incident report with the police. That way he's covered and he doesn't have to press charges.

You can't always prevent your kids from being kids. I'm working in an alternative school this year and most of the kids are not really that bad; many did things that I did at their age and just got caught. You are a good parent, your kid is alive because you talked to them. Good luck.

I saw on the news that NYC is beginning evacuations and I'm sure Long Island, especially on the South Shore (closest to the Atlantic Ocean) I know after Gloria in 1985, my parents were without power for over a week.

I love the teaching part but it's become teaching to a test and paperwork to cya or cma. I'm teaching 4 different subjects this year at an alternative school with no planning. Yes, I'm grateful to have a job, but I'm working 16 hour days and am expected to write elaborate lesson plans, and keep extensive records. I'm doing this while taking care of a wife with M.S. and I've never been so sad and frustrated.

My heart goes out to you. I think he needs the help of a psychiatrist; someone who could prescribe medication. It sounds like he suffers from clinical depression and until that is determined, it seems he needs more than a psychologist. The Postman suggested he join the military, but I think that's a bad idea; it could push him over the edge. I hope you can get him the help he needs.

I don't know if I was being scammed or not, but a few dollars out of my pocket, won't make that much of a difference and if it helps someone, great.
