This is the problem with our political system in a nutshell.

With limited funds, schools see their alternative programs as a waste of money and it's cheaper to farm out their programs to someone else.

She would be among the first to be evacuated. Flooding wouldn't be an issue where she is located in Port Jeff, she's on high ground and is about mile away from the water. The loss of electricity and large trees is more of an issue.

The kids are thrown in front of computers at Ombudsman and this is the trend for many alternative schools because they are cheaper to run; having live, qualified teachers is much more expensive.

She lives in Port Jefferson, although she isn't directly on the water. However, she has a yard full of large, old trees. I grew up in Ronkonkoma, right in the middle of LI.

My mother-in-law lives on Long Island and is a dialysis patient, luckily she is on a list of first priority to be evacuated.
