  1. Does anyone know who I should contact about having something put on the sign in front of the Dallas Theater? I actually have a friend who will be home from Iraq for the first time tomorrow, and one of the things he said to us before he left was "I want my name up there when I get home!" So I just wondered if that was at all possible!

  2. OMG you mean they had it? i heard that it was going to start showing tonight in some theaters on the radio yesterday, so i checked the website for that theater and it didn't show that they would be showing it tonight. that makes me mad! i'm going to have to wait until next week sometime to see it now, and i just hope no one spills all the details before then! i'm glad to hear it was good though...i'm looking foward to it!

  3. When I was on my way home tonight around 7:45 pm, I noticed a lot of activity at the home (trailer) on Nebo on the right just before you get to Nebo Elementary and right after you go through the stop sign at Dallas Nebo/Nebo. Lots of police and people were at the residence as well as a police unit driving through the adjacent field aparently looking for something. When I drove back by a little after 11:00 pm, there was even more activity including a fire engine in the road as well as huge work site lights lighting up the field, illuminating an area for a back hoe to dig. Still covered with police. I was just wondering if anyone heard anything?? Thanks in advance for any replies.

  4. Here is an update on the wreck. My boyfriend saw the whole thing happen right in front of him and was able to give witness info. to the police as well aid to the drvier. Several drivers got out and were able to lend aid to the man. He (boyfriend) was in the right turning lane of Bill Caruth turning onto Nebo. The motorcycle was from Penn. and it was believed that he ran the red light by taking a left hand turn onto Nebo from the 92 side of Bill Caruth. A white 90's model Civic hit him square in the middle of the intersection. The man on the Harley had atleast a compound fracture to his right leg and he believes a broken wrist. He said the authorities got there very quickly and the lifeflight took him to Grady. Do pray for the rider. Some of the whitnesses were in contact with the man's wife and she beat the chopper to the hospital. I believe he said one of the couple was in the military, my boyfriend said the man was in his 20's. Do pray that he is alright. And just make sure that where ever you are that you make extra care to look out for those motorcycles.

  5. Burt's Pumpkin Farm, near Amicalola Falls (Dawson County, I think..??)

Pumpkins are anywhere from $0.75 and $100+ for the really really big ones. Normal-sized pumpkins are around $4-$10.

They also have a hay ride and all sorts of other goodies, like apple cider and souveneirs.

Make a day of it and visit the falls too, and eat lunch at the lodge on top of the falls!

  6. i stayed in cherry log this weekend, too!

we went to burt's pumpkin farm friday - they are related to my boyfriend's grandfather's family, and we went to amicalola falls. saturday we rode the blue ridge scenic railway, and it was wonderful! we had an open car - the weather was perfect and the scenery is amazing up there. our cabin was in cherry log - right up the hill from the post office, with a beautiful view of the goose island farm. if anyone is looking for a quick getaway, this place is wonderful, and it's only about an hour's drive up 575! i recommend dismountaingetaway.com for cabins. the one we stayed in (honeybear) was great, and the prices are good, too!

  7. Just my thoughts on the sports topic and the new gym...

Paulding Co. moved up to AAAAA this year, and they have rules on the size of the gym and how many people it has to hold, etc., and I believe there were some other schools in the same boat as well.

As for all the money made through sporting events at the school...we never saw any of it!! I was a cheerleader all through middle school and high school, and everything I ever had to have or had to do (uniforms, camp, megaphones, etc.) was paid for out of my parents pockets. And my senior year, we even had to pay for our own busses to all of the football games. If we didn't have the money in the cheer account, we either rode with the band or didn't go to the game. So where does all this money go from the events? Because we never saw a dime.

I definately don't think taking sports/extracurriculars out is a good idea...that is a major part of a large majority of kids school experience, and you learn a lot of things there that can't be taught in a classroom.

BTW, I do wish our tax money went to the classrooms first though - I'm not suggesting that that isn't the #1 most important thing...I just wish there could be a balance without anything or anyone being left out!! :(

  8. as of about 10 minutes ago, i was voting yes...now i think it'll be a no...my boyfriends mother said to read pcom and it will change your mind...so i did, and it did!

i just have one question: i have heard that when new schools are built, there is a law (state or local?) that has some restriction on the size of the student body it will be able to hold due to either the current population, or to a very short-term projected population. i know that the money given by the state's capital outlay program to help build the schools is based on the previous five years growth (according to mrs. sowar), so is the size of the school based on this also?

 this is all very confusing, and the don't tell us everything, which makes it harder to understand!
