  2. I regret having to cancel the open house scheduled for today at LauraLeigh Farms, yet again. The overnight storms have saturated the grounds and we have a tree down along with a lot of limbs. Since this nasty weather pattern may be with us into September, we will reschedule for fall. Thanks, everyone, for your patience.

  4. Mrs. G, please put me down for soup, canned fruit, peanut butter and jelly. I will have kids here all week for day camp so I don't known when I can deliver the items.

  8. Few horses move like their ancestors with the possible exception of some of the mustangs. I have a 21 year old mustang that was captured at 6 months old from a herd of Spanish Mustangs. Her trot is very smooth and elevated; awesome to watch and completely natural. My research into the gaits of horses over the years seems to point to most walk, trot, canter breeds originally having much smoother gaits than they have now. There was a racking trainer just outside of Birmingham when I was growing up and his claim to fame was that he could teach any horse to rack. His example was a QH that h
  9. I have been blessed with some amazing horses in my life, one was a racking horse, one was a TB and two wonderful cutting bred quarter horses. All my favorites have been mares.
  10. I am so jealous! I keep a copy of the Lone Ranger's Creed on the wall in my office at home. Clayton Moore is the one and only Lone Ranger.
  11. I got my first racking horse 55 years ago. I had a saddlebred that was trained to perform the slow gait and the rack. I have had walking horses that were trained to rack when they didn't pick up the flat walk and running walk. I also had a Morab that had been trained to rack and I have even seen a QH that had been trained to rack. I don't disbelieve that you have seen foals single foot at a week old. I have a QH mare that was doing sliding stops at 2 weeks old. It is a trait of her breeding but not all quarter horses do it. IMHO there are only 4 natural gaits: walk, trot, canter, gallop.
  12. Interesting since Trigger was born before the Palomino registry existed. There is a lot of conflicting information regarding Trigger and a lot of registries that have tried to claim him.
  13. There are color breeds and color breed registries like the one for paints. There are also registries for palominos, buckskins, etc... The racking horse is not a breed, it is a registry. The rack is an aritifical gait, not a natural one like the flat walk and running walk of the TWH. The 5 gaited American Saddlebred also racks in addition to the natural walk, trot, canter and slow gait (also artificial).
  14. In Trigger's case palomino is only a color. He was not registered. His sire was a TB and his dam was an unregistered mare. Trigger's original name was Golden Cloud.
  15. Trigger Jr. was the TWH, Trigger's sire was a TB and his dam was a grade mare. Yes, Roy Rogers is my all time favorite cowboy.
  16. Many Boeing locations that do work for the DOD also manufacture for NASA.
  17. My study of genetics has been limited to horses but even that brought many surprises.
  18. As my favorite horseman says "When you're green, you're growin. When you're ripe, you're rotten."
  19. Diesel hasn't changed since I got fuel a week and a half ago.
