  1. Yeah, I'm sure it's going to take them days to get it all caught up.
  2. Us too! Got 2 pieces of junk mail. No way was that 3 days worth of mail.
  3. Hubby drove from Hiram to Lockheed and said as long as you stay on main roads you'll be okay. Hwy 278 to Powder Springs Rd is okay. In fact, he said the Paulding County side of the roads was actually a little better than the Cobb side but if you're careful you'll be okay. I drove out Cleburne Pkwy to Hwy 278 and down Florence Rd in Powder Springs this morning and made it just fine. The back roads and side streets are still icy but the main roads seem to be passable. Y'all be careful and safe out there!
  4. I'll like it more after I retire and don't have to worry about getting to work with icy roads!
  5. We went out earlier and the roads have alot of slush and water on them. They're passable if you're careful and stay in the ruts. He can probably make it to work this evening but he'll have a problem getting home in the morning because it's going to refreeze overnight.
  6. Our daughter was born October 8, 1982. I remember the nurse telling me they were swamped with "Snowjam baby births".
  7. We just went out and drove around a bit to see how things look. Cleburne Pkwy is passable. Still alot of slush on the road but there's ruts you can drive in. Hwy 278 from Cleburne all the way to the skating rink is okay. Side roads are still covered pretty bad. There's ALOT of slush and water on all the roads so unless it dries up before the temps drop tonight, tomorrow morning will be horrendous again. If you need to go out right now you should be okay if you're careful. Just be sure to be back home by nightfall!
  8. Yep...I remember it well! I left work early, picked up my son from daycare and managed to get home after sliding into a ditch. Some guys driving by helped get my car back up on the road. Hubby had to abandon his truck on Fairground St. in Marietta and paid 2 guys in a jeep to bring him home. We were stuck at home for an entire week. Nine months later our daughter was born.
  9. Awwwww! Poor little munchkin! Maybe the roads will clear enough later today for y'all to get out and get everyone reunited! Good luck!!! Congrats on the new grandbaby, too!!
  10. I'm thinking the roads won't be much better than they are right now. The DOT is asking folks to stay off the roads through tomorrow evening.
  11. Thankfully, it looks like maybe we've dodged the bullet as far as losing power. The precip is pretty much over so the freezing rain that we were expecting may not hit us. Yaaayyy!!!
  12. Glenn Burns just said that the roads in Paulding County are horrendous. I have a feeling it's going to be at least Wednesday and maybe Thursday before folks can get out and about around here.
  13. Dang! I wonder where on the Ga-Ala line? The way Channel 2 is talking the worst part of the icing is going to be south of Atlanta so I'm hoping we don't get enough to cause power outages.
  14. I have our old wired phone out and ready to plug in if we lose power. Hopefully we won't need them!
  15. At 5AM on Channel 2 they said that so far there are no reports of any power outages in the Metro area. Hoping it stays that way!!!!
  16. Yep...went through my house about a week ago. It lasted about 2 days for each of us. Hope you're feeling better soon!
  17. My daughter is a RN at Tanner in Villa Rica. Hospitals don't close for bad weather so she's expected to get to work. Luckily today is her off day but she's worried about driving in tomorrow morning for her 7AM shift.
  18. For me, it's not so much as not thinking something is going to happen as it is hoping it doesn't. I was around in 1973 and lived through 3 days of being iced in with no electricity and it was horrible. I just don't want to ever do that again. I'd love to see a bunch of snow but I just don't want the ice they're predicting to materialize.

    It's here

Nothing yet at my house in Hiram. My daughter lives in Winston and says it's sleeting pretty hard there.
  20. Well...the temp at my house is 32 degrees. I'm kinda thinking it's not going to get cold enough to cause any kind of major problem. It will have to get below 30 and with the cloud cover I don't think it will happen. I'd love to see about a foot of snow but not the ice!
  21. Thanks! I appreciate the info! We would be in a fairly large open area of the house and could open a window right beside where it would be sitting while we cooked on it. That's probably what we'll do if we lose power and have to cook on this thing. Thanks!
  22. What about cooking indoors with a Coleman propane camp stove? If we open a window would it be okay?
  23. Grilled some ribeyes, baked some sweet taters and made a big 'ol garden salad. YUMMY!!!!
