We took the penalties and cashed out. I am concerned about the possibility of a bank holiday. The scary thing is that nothing has changed for the banks. They are insolvent. They are being propped up by accounting tricks and cheap money from the Fed. CRE exposure/losses combined with losses from Alt A and Pay Option over the next couple of years will make for a couple of interesting years, think wild ride on the market. We pulled everything else at Dow 12,600 in 2008 over concerns related to derivatives exposure. We don't plan on getting back in to the market any time soon due to derivative concerns, accounting tricks (mark to market relaxed rules set to expire at the beginning of the new year), and the continued monetization of debt by the Fed. Buy and hold is dead, traditional analyses used by investors are useless as long as the Fed continues to prop the market up. However, I've made a little money investing in the too big to fail companies of C and AIG.

Going on 7 months now and know tons of folks that have been unemployed longer. Articles I've read suggest the jobs won't be coming back until 2012 or later, if at all. So, I'm going to start doing some bookkeeping for some small businesses and am exploring other avenues. I think at this point, if you want a job, you may just have to create your own. I'm still sending out resumes and applying and keeping in contact with some folks that my have something the mid part of next year. Sounds tasty. I have had an interesting dish with feta that was baked briefly in olive oil, garlic, lemon juice and ouzo. They lit the ouzo right before serving. It was served with pita wedges. Divine.

Everyone we knew was going to the Caribbean to get married. I wanted to go to Vegas and get married since no one we knew had actually done that. The family had a fit so we had to have a wedding. I really don't like weddings, they are a waste of money IMO. And don't even get me started on dresses. I don't like lace, bows, sequins, hearts and just didn't see myself wearing one of those things. Wearing a seatbelt is a logical thing to do to protect yourself but I don't beleive it should be a law to require an adult to wear a seatbelt. I'm okay with a law to require children to wear seatbelts.
