'Hee Haw' Co-Host Buck Owens, 76, Dies

Recommended Posts

Singer Buck Owens, the flashy rhinestone cowboy who shaped country music with hits like 'Act Naturally' and brought the genre to TV on the long-running 'Hee Haw,' died at his home in Bakersfield, California, on Saturday at age 76.

I remember being a little girl and watching Hee Haw with my big ole country family... and lovin' every minute of it.

RIP, Buck.

I grew up in Oklahoma City, and when I was a kid in the mid sixties, Buck Owens had a local TV show there. It was sponsored by Mathis Brothers Furniture, a furniture store whose tagline was "The Workin' Mans Friend". Their store is now a chain, and their grandkids are running it, but they had a great music show back then! Even though it was a local show, Buck Owens took it nation wide through syndication.
