I read in the MDJ that Paulding County is planning for county property tax rates to go up 15% this year.

The tax digest went up 9% and they want the rollback and 6% more. Also the Bond rate will go up 6% as well to pay for the new jail bonds.

You can tell this isn't an election year.

Extra funding includes 52 new full time positions (20 of them to staff the new expanded 660 bed, 133,000 sf jail) and a 5% pay raise for all county employees.

Public hearings on the property tax increase are set for July 23 at 9 a.m. and 6 p.m. and Aug. 13 at 9 a.m. in the Board of Commissioners meeting room on the second floor of the Administration Building of Paulding County’s Watson Government Complex.

The School Board is also raising the tax rates. Full rollback rate would have been 17.395 mils, the board instead is using 18.750 mils down from the current 18.879 mills Good news is that they are lowering the rates a bit to give us part of the rollback. The extra funds include a 5% pay raise for all 3,500 employees of the system.

Public meetings on the School rate change have already happened. I'm hoping we'll see important local news like that on the new Pcom.

If your value went down this year, you might break even. If your value went up, I'm sorry, double hit of value + higher rate.
