I could give several reasons too.

Some could be other sites which profess to be "more sensitive and calmer" or just not as many people too.

But mostly it is facebook and the drama went there ..... more options for "social media". But also, people just got lives doing other things and forgot/moved on .....

Community forum with a bunch of folks having fun, to some interpersonal bickering that led to exits which thinned the crowd, the thinned crowd was then pushed towards political forum and away from community forum. The far right and the far left then started throwing crap at each other and everybody in the middle got tired of being covered in crap.

Every once in a while its entertaining to jump down in the middle and throw a few hand fulls back in both directions. You just have to have a high tolerance for crap. But that's about all that's left.

The whole fun thing was a biggie. Back, before the economic crash, folks were a lot, lot more inclined to have fun. Since, not so much. The trolls of the far right made a play for dominance and those, including the owner, were not inclined to abdicate, didn't generate much in the way of fun.

Then the airport and, similarly, the divisions were hardened and of course, everyone from the Sheriff to the chamber president and local TV news anchors, their mothers, nieces, aunts, uncles and the exchange students who came all were saying, see me on facebook ... not to mention the three years of the Patch spending $200,000/yr and other sites - there were others including 278 - that all sought to run the site out of business.

Then there was Obamacare ... yes Obamacare ... that killed all sorts of jobs and made the world a much worse place according to the trolls who make support for Obamacare a criminal offense akin to a dracula sucking the blood from mrshowards jugular. I mean if I were to start a topic with a poll blaming the problems here on obamacare, do you doubt that a majority would agree it was not only a reason for this circumstance, but the main reason ...

Of course I jest.

Pcom still average over 1,000 visits a day. Here is the chart for the last 30 days from Quantcast, an independent audience resource:

pcomjunejuly.JPG

We've been at this level generally since 2015. We were doing a lot better in 2007-08. (see below)

pcom2008.JPG

Yep, we had over 3,000 visits daily in those day.

This was because folks were just more generous in those days; posting thing like stories about accidents and police standoffs ... Yep, there were enough people posting in those days that a member in a subdivision that was blocked off by police, would take a photo out their window at the home three doors down where there was a standoff. No other press was there in the subdivision and the MSM couldn't get in either so people shared the news.

That could still happen. Rather than ask where everyone went, recognize that it is within the power of everyone to make it happen again. I surely am not stopping anyone.

Heck, when it happened here, I did exactly that and the topic had over 11,000 views of the real time reporting. When I did a formal story on it with an interview of the SO after the fact, there were but 950 views.

Pretty much tells the story of what people like. Anyone could have done the first bit; it was a matter of being there at the time. (it was about 125 yards out my front door).

That's pretty funny considering that your buddy TBAR has trolled here under several hijacked screen names and he still uses at least two personas that I am aware of. And he does so with administrator access.

The very first time I posted a comment on this site was out of outrage. I happened upon the website and witness a group of folks (the same that are now calling themselves victims) attacking what I believe to be a young woman who was grieving the death of a friend that had been shot and killed by the Paulding sheriff's office. It's been a while but as I recall he had savagely attacked them with a can of bug spray. Well anyway this 'group' was taking turns nipping at the girl like a pack of excited wolves bringing down a wounded fawn, it was a disgusting spectacle and I was so shocked that people in this community could act so deplorably I tried to defend her.

Things really haven't changed that much around here except the wolves have a few more people willing to challenge them now. And that I believe is what really ticks them off.

Labeling people into categories helps us identify attitudes that go together. I am labeled as a liberal, but I am more conservative than a lot of people who run their air conditioners with the front door wide open, and every light in the house on.

I've been told by professed conservatives that I am not conservative enough while they are in the process of wastefulness themselves.

But, I am liberal, also, when it comes to majority rule. We are ruled under a fake majority, and the truth doesn't fly with the professed conservatives on P.com

I, for one, stand away from any group that people try to label me in. What you see is is what you get, from me, whether you U-N-D-E-R-S-T-A-N-D what you are seeing or not.

I believe it is about relevance. Paulding.com has a admirable number of likes on FB.

None of them solicited, I can promise you that. Pubby sees FB as an abomination of the internet.

When I come here not logged on the visible pages are old with little or no response.

The audience that is best for p.com and for participation is the one looking for current and real time events.

P.com will continue it's decline as long as politics are the hot topic for participation.

The people sign in to make the same type of commentary on political articles on the net.

Sorry Pubby the thing you love best is the most harmful to this site when it comes to growth and commercial viability.

The undercurrents that are visible to the casual visitor are from political problems.

You have held on to the hard core political antagonist so you will always have someone to play with. But they don't pay the bills.

There's a coincidence. I was just discussing that shooting yesterday with the person who now lives in the house next door to where it took place. If you were to look back you'll see that I was not a part of that "group" you mentioned. As a matter of fact I avoided commenting on that as much as I could stand, because it would have been real easy to figure out where I live had I let loose on the subject. It would take a little more effort to figure that out now and I don't care so much anymore, so.....

Sometimes the pack of wolves is right. The girl in question was proclaiming the shooting victim a saint with unspoiled robes. Her spin on the matter was indeed 180 degrees out from mine, I didn't know the person, never spoke to him or anyone else that lived in the house. I was just unfortunate enough to live in a house within rock throwing distance and to own the land adjoining the rear of that property, which put me in a unique position of unbiased, closeup observer. It wouldn't be seemly to launch into a lengthy and well deserved diatribe against a couple of dead folks and couple of other real dirt bags, but sometimes a public flogging is what it takes.

But on the upside, it seems like at least you stayed. So at least the board gained something from the outrage, well placed or not.

I didn't know the victim and I don't know you but you will never convince me regardless of what his background was that knocking down his door then killing him because he comes out with a can of bug spray ( according to the police) is justifiable. You will also never persuade me that the "public flogging" as you want to call it was anything less than a psychological gang rape.

It doesn't really matter what you are convinced of. And background is only partially relevant.

In all fairness, not everybody has been exposed to the REAL low end of the spectrum, as far as how people live. But there are in this world places that will scare the hell out of you, right in your neighborhoods. There are you typical lower end 3 bedroom ranch houses with a kitchen and dining room on one end, a living room in the front, a hall that runs down the middle with bedrooms off the side. Now in a percentage of these le3brh (lower end 3 bedroom ranch house), especially those where ice is used and or sold, for various reasons the hallway and the various rooms are blocked off with various blankets, tarps, plastic. Also in a lot of these le3brh that fit this description so far, you will find semi to full on hoarder, piled up to the ceiling, nasty as hell conditions. Not limited to but including not only masses of household items but household garbage (on a grand scale), food waste, animal/possibly human waste, etc. Now when you live like this, the last thing in the world you want is a lot of light. So now at night you're standing in a pitch dark house with various hanging partitions and stacks of crap all around you ands an idiot comes running from behind something down a dark hall with something in his hand.

Not a whole lot background involved.

And also, disabusing a rock head of the idea of publicly spouting rock head garbage can bring out the worst in people.

You and I don't agree often, but you're spot on this time.

Pubby has put his politics above all, including service to this community. P'Com used to be a great place; it was fun and there was a genuine attitude of service to the community from the management here. Now it's all about pubby's undying dedication to Socialism and the Democratic Party, and the usage of his forum as a venue for him and his gang of not so merry men to express their bitter hatred of the GOP. It's his forum and he has that right, but he must accept the consequences for his change in priority.

This country will be a better place when we all figure out that both parties are corrupt and neither are working for The People anymore. Maybe then we can come together as a people to actually solve some problems. But extreme partisans like many here on this site who care more about destroying the other guy are keeping that from happening.

The truth is that I am a Republican, G D!

The first official Republican party convention was held on July 6, 1854, in Jackson, Michigan. By 1858, the Republicans dominated nearly all Northern states. The Republican Party first came to power in the elections of 1860 when it won control of both houses of Congress and its candidate, Abraham Lincoln, was elected president. It oversaw the preserving of the union, the end of slavery, and the provision of equal rights to all men in the American Civil War and Reconstruction, 1861–1877

While the description you present is somewhat accurate, you still need to read the GBI report on this shooting. There was shooting through walls and one deputy ended up with a bullet lodged in a vest. You are right, the officers in the house were obviously freaked in a scary place and a few inches here or there and the body count from the only folks with guns would have climbed by double; maybe triple.

Oh, and anyone who knew Danny Hammett knows that he moved like an 18th month old, running, which admittedly would be scary ... but not particularly fast.

Knew i was negligent by not adding in there somewhere that by no means are the police blameless. I've done some reading, and from the jump of how they went in to who they put in, they knew they were screwed (had screwed themselves) the minute it happened. And I shouldn't have said run. Moved out from behind something with something in his hand would be more accurate. (I don't know if you've ever had the popo come in on ya in a felony situation folks. But all ambiguity as to who it is and whats happening leaves the situation once they breach the door.)

Now that I've done the mea culpa on my oversights, my description is only inaccurate in that I downplayed the condition of the house. You might find that hard to believe, but I can elaborate. You really don't want to hear it. I guarantee.

Post man ...Are we not posting our truths when posting? I have never had a post removed and if you are interested in my past on P.com, then look me up. I am honest to a fault. Sometimes the truth hurts huh? Bouquet is this only name I have use on here. How about you? Look for posts on Ashton, Tristen Bass, and Phillip Bass, or Nana and Papa. These will be post that pertain to my worst days. Go ahead and label me. But I feel that labeling people is cowardly.

Blunt Trauma ..."It doesn't really matter what you are convinced of. And background is only partially relevant."

Yes just one line of your mouthy post. That again IS YOUR OPINION and we read it, Or at least part of it. You lost me with that comment. You promote YOU opinion and dump on others. That really is not what I would like too see on here. My absences have been based on mine and my husbands health. I fell in love with the Community that Pubby created here. Remember the old saying "Like it or Leave it?" It might tell you to cut out the dumps you make, you could be totally ignored real soon.

Guard Dad are you saying that what Pubby has to say is less important than what you put on here? You remind me of bully's I knew as a child. They like to run in packs too, didn't they? So if like another poster said we should all be labeled, chose your people to label we don't care. What I care about are the continued remarks about anyone. Stand away from "Your" Pack and think for yourself. Don't try t put down other people who use facts and news reports. Especially is they can back up what they are saying with them

Oh by the way, the way you treat Pubby is cowardly. Do we need to take a vote so that you can see it in black and white? Don't bother, we know him to bring important information to us. I do not always watch the news so it is great that he keeps up with it!

PUBBY FOREVER!!!

Do us both a favor and please put me on ignore, as it would seem that given that math one of us is completely unnecessary.

Nope.

THIS. I know several who have left here because of the constant negative political comments and at least two of them use to advertise here. As one of them told me, "when you constantly keep bashing the Ttump administration and the people that support the President, you are basically biting the hand that feeds you."

Pubby's site used to be for the community. He did a great thing back then and helped a lot of people. Now P'Com is nothing but a venue for his Socialist Democratic politics.

I actually appreciate your loyalty to pubby, I know a lot of people who have shared stories of him being a good man who stood up for them or supported them during a rough time. But that was before he sold his soul to partisan politics.

I genuinely hope he will see the error of his ways and turn back to a more local mindset.

On a thread asking why there's fewer visitors there's a several-person argument about the site admin! I want to know that if I'm looking at a topic there's not going to be member bashing, name calling of the admin, or random ranting tangents by (or about) a certain member or two! Even without the political nonsense, there's frequently a back-and-forth between certain members and it gets annoying. Plus, I have to admit, there are topics started by one member that I don't even read because it's going to spawn new arguments or have several replies from that member to that member.

On a more positive note, my work hours are tighter so I don't have as much free time to get on here. Something else to consider is a lot of people don't really know about this site. I found out about it from a school system employee who would read the school vent section just for kicks. She also thought this entire site was put together by "an old guy sitting by his police scanner" and didn't really know what it was about. Maybe more marketing to the residents of the county would help. Another thing is individual neighborhoods have their own community sites that contain their scope to just themselves and their neighbors.

This discussion is about as interesting as talking about Al Gore's loss to George Bush in Florida. Heck I can't remember most of those details now.

To me the most exciting time period in PCom history is when Shearin lost to Austin. We were a powerful lobby back then. I remember the campaign was fun but I can't remember any of the details.

Pubby discusses an attempt by us conservatives to take over PCom. It sounds like it was fun, I just can't remember it.

I guess what I'm trying to say is we had fun back then but most of us are older now and just can't remember how we got here and many of our PCom friends have pasted away. I guess we're like an old church with a few old people left and all the kids have moved on to bigger and more exciting social media sites.

I can tell you that I am so tired of people telling each other off. This is not the only place I see it, its on FB and you sure can't read anything AJC puts on any level because they play people and try the division factor. They either divide us by race, political views, or religion. I give up on some sites because they no longer seem informative but just ugly. This site has been this in the past but mostly the political BS got to me on this site. I came today to ask for information on getting my gutters cleaned by a company that's bonded. Anyone recommend someone would be appreciated.

This country will be a better place when we all figure out that both parties are corrupt and neither are working for The People anymore. Maybe then we can come together as a people to actually solve some problems. But extreme partisans like many here on this site who care more about destroying the other guy are keeping that from happening.

I still support Pubby and P.com. It is way out of balance. I am as guilty as anyone that is still a frequent poster specifically to the political forum. It needs to be brought back in balance. Many business members in the community still recognize and are grateful for what this site did for business. It has a lot to do with national interest-v-local. I think if Pubs had invested in a reporter to do the running as he began retirement it would still be going strong. The people of Paulding remain starved for local news and events.

Yeah. This^^^^^^^^^^.

And the local "news" seems to be totally focused on what fake news the Paulding 6 and their anti airport cronies can conjure up.

Well, pubby has a cheerleader.

Yep. "A" being singular in nature. :)

Ma'am we've found an area of agreement. It may not be possible given the givens, but put as economically as possible...more local news, more community, maybe even more local politics, just be more about Paulding, (dot com it)....way way less national politics.

You folks should read the GBI report on that shooting sometime. I'm curious if the wrongful death suit has ever been settled and how much it cost the county.

Here I thought you were a reporter? Why don't you find out for us?

I think it would be nice to see stories/info on non-political, non-airport news and events.

I remember and kind of miss the days of "mindless Posting."

These days, it is division - and yes I have my side - and there are too many nonsensical, pot-stirring topics.
