Has the governor lost his freaking mind ?

Brenda Wood comments on Deal

But I can't help but wonder if Deal has gone off the deep end. His office prohibited the FOX5 TV crew from the press conference yesterday for the immigration bill signing, and stated they would be banned until they "Apolgized" for the story they ran Thursday about campaign contributions and the governor's daughter in law.

Dale Russell and Fox5 checked out a $90,000 expense from Deal's campaign disclosures to Southern Magnolia Capital. That's a pretty big chunk of money in my opinion, and worthy of scrutiny.

Southern Magnolia has no website, or phone listing, or business license from Gainesville or Hall County, where they are supposed to be operating from, AND the PO Box listed on their Ethics disclosure form belongs to another business who claims to know nothing about Southern Magnolia Capital.

Turns out Deal's daughter in law "worked" for "them", but no one seems to know who "them" is. Denise Deal, the governor's DIL also is shown to have been paid $38,000 in "Salary" by his campaign.

Russell interviews Deal's campaign manger, who tells him yes, Southern Magnolia helped with Deal's campaign, and yes his DIL worked with them. But he won't disclose just who the principle or owners of the company are yet sees no problem with not making those disclosures.

State Senator Miller, also from Gainesville told Dale Russell that he also used Southern Magnolia and that he had "Sought them out" to help with his campaign, but he did not say how he knew to get in touch with them.

He did however confirm that Denise Deal was one of the principles of Southern Magnolia. SURPRISE SURPRISE!!!

So Denise Deal got $38,000+ for working on the governor's campaign, and her company got another $90,000. She and Deal refuse to speak with FOX5 reporters, and then BAN Fox5 personnel from attending a public press conference until they apologize ????

Again, has deal fallen off the meglomania deep end ? He is now the States DICTATOR determining which press people are allowed to attend press conferences ?

Deal's term will be seriously tarnished by this unless he does some damn fast damage control. The next few weeks should be interesting.

Where was your post when Obama started barring reporters for negative reporting?

Obama did not bar reporters from the press office or any press conference which is what Deal did. What Obama (mistakenly in my opinion) was say how incompetent Fox was - an opinion network posing as a news network - and he declined to send administration spokesmen to the Sunday talkies on Fox. A couple of administration people talked like they wanted to ban them but that never happened.

The Fox 5 reporter was barred from entering the press conference.

Politicians have always played favorites but presence at things like press conferences or other public appearances are just that, public and open. Obama never banned any fox folks from those.

Is this your spin to protect Deal, or are you trying to just say its OK because the Democrat did it too, which he did not ?

What Deal has done is going to cause some serious BS to hit the fan unless his spin doctors can do something pretty fast.

I feel badly for the State Trooper who had to be the one to tell the reporters they could not come into the conference. At least Deal himself or one of his henchmen should have done that and it is pretty cowardly of them to instruct a Trooper to have to do it.

All I see are a lot of questions and allegations but no proof of wrongdoing as of this moment. Let them go through the records and explain it.

Granted, he probably "acted stupidly" in barring Fox5.

Oh Please...all of you need to get over yourselves! This has nothing to do with Democrats or Republicans, Deal has been both, depending on which party could get him the most votes. This is about a crooked politician and not his whole party!

If this deal was on the up and up, why would he care what they reported? He needs to get his panties out of a wad and put someone on damage control ASAP.

Granted, he probably "acted stupidly" in barring Fox5.

Then Deal needs to reply to the questions about the finances.

He is the Governor, and has a responsiblity to the taxpayers and voters to show he is transparent and on the up and up.

They gave him the opportunity to explain it and both he and his daughter in law have refused to repsond. The Wilhite guy just refused to disclose who owns Southern Magnolia, a Georgia LLC company with a fictitous PO Box, no listed phone number and no website information. But they collected $100,000+ from Deal and Miller.

What are they hiding, and why ?

What exactly did his daughter in law do to earn $128,000+ dollars of salary and "Bonuses" during the election ? If she earned it fine, explain it and go on. If she was paid that just because they could, then it broke the law.

And why did they find it necessary to have $38,000+ paid out to her directly from the campaign, AND another $90,000 through a front company which Deal's own people refused to acknowledge was her company.

But to then BAN other Fox5TV reporters from a Public Press Conference to punish them for reporting on some rather shady looking financial decisions from his campaign money is just plain and simply wrong and goes against everything in our campaign reform and open government rules and regulations.

Hated Deal. :angry2:

Hated Barnes. :angry2:

You know when it comes to taking advantage of money Deal is not entitled to; he has no control of himself. If he can twist in his mind that there is a loop hole, and he might not get caught...he's going to do it even if it is illegal, and it is unethical. :diablo:

So now, if Deal is asked to step down... because you know when you turn over rocks you find more slugs... (They will find more I think … the guy is scum ... ) Does that mean by default we then get "Give me a Lewinski" Lt. Governor Casey Cagle? :bad:

Cagle has had a long standing affair with Elizabeth Dewberry. The couple met on the campaign trail when she was his campaign manager. After he won, she continued closely working with Cagle in his office until August 2008. Her departure from Cagle’s staff had to do with the fact that this couple was caught in the act at the Capitol in Cagle’s office by a secretary, Laurie Sparks. Dewberry claimed she was “tying Casey’s shoes” under his desk.

Are there any ethical honest politicians at a state level?

Who is really surprised? Deal was pissed off because he was outed (by Fox 5) for giving a sweetheart deal to his daughter . Don't y'all remember that there were ethical problems with Deal? And financial malfeasance? Just add a lack of belief in Constitutional principles to his growing list of negative traits.

What is so outrageous is that Deal was demanding an APOLOGY from Fox 5.

What a human furball!!!

Prima Facie evidence shows an intolerance of Fox 5's freedom of the press. How can anyone say that there was no wrongdoing when the recorded evidence shows differently?

To believe that there was no wrongdoing would mean that you believe that the Governor has a right to blackball any local news station that reports anything negative about him.

There's a "third world dictator" aspect to the Governor that everyone should find troubling!

Why isn't this in the Political forum?

Because this is apolitical. I don't see where there are any politics involved other than possibly Deal's arrogant use of his office.

This is about the governor of Georgia attempting to intimidate a media outlet to not do any negative reports on him.
