odie Posted April 2, 2009 Author Report Share Posted April 2, 2009 (edited) A Brownie in our troop chose to do this blood drive in honor of Riley and also wanted to help more kids and adults that need blood donations due to disease, accidents, traumas, and surgeries, etc. Information obtained from Riley's Family: Riley was diagnosed with Acute Lynphoblastic Leukemia (ALL) on August 2, 2008. He is 4 year old and still a very active young man. Riley underwent 6 months of intense chemo therapy and is now in the maintenance period of his treatments which will last another 2 years 2 month. We expect to be off treatment October 6, 2011. But until then Riley will require frequent blood and platelet transfusion as the chemo therapy depleats his ability to produce healthy blood cells. Having a blood drive in Riley's name means a great deal for the our family and for the Red Cross Blood bank in all parts of the country. Having these blood drives ensures that children and adults alike will have access to life giving blood and platlets when they have an emergency. We are very thankful that the Brownie Member has taken on this blood drive and thank her from the bottom of our hearts, ... Edited April 2, 2009 by odie Link to post Share on other sites
