  1. The students that were at Shelton have all been taken home by the PCSD and GADOT. The teachers were also taken home or escorted somewhere safe.
  2. This creates yet another faction to put their fingers into education. As an educator I do not agree with this at all. Charter schools are still allowed, but this would allow the state to come in and possibly make decisions above and beyond that of the local board. I can tell you that each county is different and we do not need the state or legislators that know very little about education deciding that they can run our district better than our local board. And even though I am a Republican this does not sit well with me. There are a lot of people that are getting excited about the opportu
  3. Teachers we need your voice to be heard! Senate bill 469 will be on the floor for a vote tomorrow and it will severely hamper all teacher associations in our state. In a time when we are being pushed to our limits with more furlough days, the possibility of paying more insurance, and pay for performance on the horizon; we need to be able to decide if our yearly dues are taken out of our pay checks. The government should have not say into how I join an association or organization! Not to mention this bill infringes on our 1st Amendment rights. Please do not sit back because and watch this
  4. It depends on the school not all schools do pre-screenings. You can call your child's school and ask.
  5. Being a Kindergarten teacher I see students that come in with late summer birthdays all the time. I can tell you now if you do not feel your child is ready due to maturity you know what you should do. There is a ton of difference between a child that enters Kindergarten and has a June/July/August birthday (just turning 5) and one that has a Fall birthday and is turning 6. Now there are exceptions, but if you feel they are not mature enough please do the best thing for you and your child and give them another year. There are a lot of parents that I wish I could say this to, but so many fee
  6. I just got the official call. There is no school for teachers or students.
  7. I live off High Shoals, my neighborhood rd is a skating rink and I think that High Shoals will be about the same. I was on the 4-wheeler yesterday to check things out and it was getting packed down by the people out. I am sure it is a solid sheet of ice today. I'll go out soon to see what it looks like.
  8. I don't know if the roads will be safe to travel in the county at all this week! They are now predicting extreme arctic air will be coming Thursday will the lows of 13 in Atlanta! That would give us what? single digits? The stuff on the road is not going anywhere!
  9. http://forum.gon.com/showthread.php?t=595519&page=10 You will have to go back all 10 pages if you want the real info and the older post a little ways down. I am on the site all the time and never looked at the weather posts, but he knows his stuff and I'm learning some too.
  10. They need to get the call out. I'm about to have to leave for work and just got a call about the same thing.
  11. The guy in this video is CRAZY! Yeah they're all nice until one decides to sting you! More power to him, but there is no way you'd catch me doing that....nope, nope, nope.
  12. All I have to say is you don't want to be stung by one! It hurts like nothing I've felt before and my calf swelled up all the way from my knee to my ankle for a few days. If the hornet spray will keep them in the tree that's a start; then I think I would move to the gasoline. I will say that these things fly at night so don't just try and do the gas at night! I did a lot of research on them after my in counter. I just had a small nest under some grass clippings fortunately. I did the spray and got most in the nest and then squashed the nest. I do have another nearby, because when I use
  13. I guess from some responses I am over exaggerating the bump and it is not inconvenient at all. Even driving slow it is a nuisance to have to deal with 2 times a day. I just don't understand why the county would not have smoothed it out more or if they were going to leave it like that for a while you would think they would make it a little more gradual.
  14. Okay, the last I went down it was Sunday, but what they had done on it from the 4-way to cedarcrest was just tear up bad spots and fix them with new asphalt. I doubt that they are now going back and paving over that, but I could be wrong. you could see the spots where they dug up and re-paved. As far as the bump for those that have not been over it; when they finished the new fire station they repaved in front of the station and where they joined the previous asphalt and the new they did not smooth it down instead they left it so it's worse than a speed bump. I do drive over it slowly
