Within 500 yards of the end of my street, we now have 4 used car lots, a tattoo parlor, a check casher/title pawn, a liquor store and a thrift store. All we need now is to add a jiggly room and a fleabag motel and we'll look like Stewart Avenue.  Wait...we have a fleabag motel up behind the old huddle house.

Business 6 / Merchants Drive/ Atlanta Hwy goes from City of Dallas, to unincorporated Paulding to City of Hiram along this 500 yard stretch of road.  Just why won't the left hand talk to the right hand and figure out that certain types of the above-mentioned businesses have a negative impact on property values. Do you think we'd see these types of businesses allowed at Seven Hills or Senator's Ridge? Nope. They don't want riff raff up there in the high rent district. This just sucks. On top of that my tax assessment went up 34%.

I'm beyond ready to move out of Paulding County.

At least the firewood/pulpwood company went out or moved. I almost hit one of their trailers loaded and broke down across the road.

Alternate ideas--Dollar General, Waffle House, Subway, Mexican restaurant, and Chinese restaurant. There definitely aren't enough of those in the county. LOL.

Blight cannot/should not be grandfathered.
That immediate "like" forces me to add to the OP. You used that term again. And once again, since I am a card carrying member, I have spoken to both the riff and the raff. The riff sends along there best wishes. However the raff is not all that remorseful of the impending exit.

the area is getting run down, and don't even get me cranked up about our Marshal's Bureau. They have blinders on and will do nothing about blight unless a citizen 1st complains. Even if blight is is plain view.

Now when the new board get sworn in come January, we'll be having 737's buzzing overhead, Won't that be special? Paulding is start to look like Riverdale. time to pack up and head to Blue Ridge or Blairsville.

My apologies, but I have no idea what you are saying here.

Two separate ideas there. Blight being decay of a previously functioning area as it falls into disrepair and decriptitude. Which is what is in the process when a section goes commercial without renewal. Businesses move into houses which weren't designed for that use. If you want a prime example take a ride down Bankhead in Mableton. While you're there keep in mind that the Latino community has moved in and made vast improvements. If what's there is improved, imagine how bad it was, if you're not familiar with the area.
The second part has to do with an issue I have with the OP's repeated use of the term "riff raff" and is not relevant to the blight argument other than it hints at a history of having lived in the middle of some.

The "riff raff' I'm speaking of have a history of littering my street with beer cans and Krystal boxes. (insert cussing here)

A couple weeks back while cutting my grass, in my own yard, I saw a drug pipe where some riff raff decided to throw out a used drup pipe, in my yard. (insert cussing here) Seriously?  I took a photo and sent it to the marshal's office. They said it didn't look like a crack pipe, but a marijuana pipe. Well that's special.  It's only marijuana.....(insert cussing here)

I'm sick of these guys walking back and forth, making a path to the liquor store and back. All day, each day. (insert cussing here)

I've had my car battery stolen out of my car, I've had stuff come up missing off my carport and it just sucks. (insert cussing here) If you want to defend the riff or the raff, go ahead, let them come crash at your place and steal from you, but they need to get off my lawn.  (insert cussing here)

What you used it for in this instance is irrevelant. You have a history of using that term to describe not folks who litter (slobs, inconsiderates) and thieves, but poor folks. At least folks poorer than you. And if we were all to tell the truth, if'n we were to go back and look at each particular time it's been used, you're usually if not pretty much always talking about people who are both poorer than you, but they don't look much like you either.
I am truly sorry that the sheriff wouldn't come and arrest that pipe for you. Just curious, what were they expected to do, set up survellience in case it was a serial pipe discarder? Its no wonder you don't think the Marshals Office will do anything. They can't proffer you the instant justice demanded so that means they just won't do anything.
If you're fighting against tweakers taking over your neighborhood, well I can get behind that. Hell, I'll come help you. If you want to complain and spout bigotted statements while refusing to participate in the process that could be a part of the solution, you're still on your own. Yes I will continue to defend the right of poor people to exist and live there lives without being lumped in with tweakers, thieves and slobs. Archie Bunkerism is a hard sell now a days. May be time to change the avatar to him a Edith at the piano, homie.

I have no problem with "poor folks", as long as they stay off my lawn. I'd rather eat Spam sandwich with a poor man, than I had eat some foie gras, caviar, or egg whites with goats cheese and peppers with the rich folks at the country club.

When I mention riff raff, I didn't mention color, race, gender or anything else. It refers to "people" trashing up my side of town. I don't want my street here in Dallas to wind up looking like Riverdale, Mableton  or Hollowell Pkwy.  Junk car lots everywhere, tattoo shops, used tire shops, junkyards, liquor stores, titty bars, fleabag motels, used drug pipes, used condoms, litter everywhere, prostitutes, pimps, etc. These are prevalent on the "poor" side of town. Do you seriously wonder why? Duh, Do you really need it spelled out?

Further, I like Archie Bunker, it's Meathead and his liberal minions who drives me nuts!  Look at liberal San Francisco, where you can go to jail for selling a plastic straw, but where plastic drug needles and syringes are given out by the tens of thousands...we wouldn't want the poor riff raff druggie to use a dirty needle now would we?

I wonder not "why". If you retain anything from what I've said other than what trips your trigger, you'd see that I've supported you, said the same thing and sited some of the same areas. That's blight and it effects everyone.

When you constantly refer to the same people with the same pejorative, you no longer have to actually mention color, race, gender or polkadots for that matter. It is implied. Look up the definition of bigotry, compare it to what rolls through your head when "riff raff" comes out from under your fingers.

Then consider one last thing that a few on here either never consider, or just have that 10 foot tall keyboarditis when they throw out something like that about people they don't know. I'm "riff raff" according to how you have used it in the past. Anyone that would stand 3 feet in front of me and say it with that intent would be foolish. You will never, ever hear me use a term to describe someone that I would not do that.

Those senior citizen facilities are popping up everywhere.

Good:  Housing that produces no kids to burden the school system.

Bad:  Get ready for a fire tax increase as the paramedics and ambulance service has to grow quite a bit with all the elderly having issues.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but doesn't the current and soon to be former Post 2 commissioner have his brokerage office right there next to the pond on business 6 in a converted residential property across from a car lot?

I'm guessing you chose to hold your criticism until after the election to avoid placing blame on him.

The Post 2 commissioner (Pownall)  has a real estate office there across from the eye doctor's office. .  I personally have no problem with an accounting office, lawyers office, real estate office, and so forth. What I do have a problem with are previously mentioned businesses that will have a negative impact on property values.  (Used Car Lots, Tattoo Parlors, Thrift Stores, Liquor Stores, Pawn Shops, etc.)

I'm sorry you have to take a cheap shot at Commissioner Pownall. I get it that you don't particularly care for him and  I suspect you aren't one of his favorite people either. Nevertheless, I have griped about the lack of effort put forth by our Marshal's Bureau to identify blight and address it.

When will they clean up this stretch of road and when with the various planners and zoning officials do their job and make Paulding great again.?

Nope, not even.

I've agreed with the same points regarding blight all the way through. I was the first post to support his point when someone tried to head to the "well they were there first" argument. I don't owe it to anyone to agree for what I believe to be the fourth time in one thread with the same points. Had you read more than the one post in this thread you would maybe have gotten the reference as opposed to a knee jerk reaction. Some folks are really hard to agree with I reckon.

But as long as we're guessing about the others positions. When was the last time you stood up and demanded of a local rep in public to do the work and the coordination required between both cities and the county to revitalize that area. Or have you spent the last 10 years jumping up and down about that glorified parking lot they call an airport out there? You know. The one whose future is going to be decided in court no matter who does what here now. Demand of them to do something that they can really affect as opposed to put on shows of "whose is bigger" in local politics about matters they can't.

Keep your powder dry for somebody who actually disagrees with you and maybe assume less.

3 or 4 years ago I sent an email to the then head of the Marshalls office about several really rough looking propertys along the stretch of road mentioned. There was a junk yard that had started growing where a self service car wash had been, a junky tree service with several junk trucks stored and next to it a used tire establishment with what looked like a auto repair shop constructed out of tarps and pallets. She replied back she had forwarded my email to her counter part at the City of Dallas. Im guessing I brought up a few more examples, I dont remember for sure.

I for one see improvements happening along this stretch. The old Huddle House has a thriving business in it now. The old Arbys looks to have a successful tenant. The old Mrs Winners is being renovated. The tree service and junky business next to it have been cleaned up and replaced with used car operation. I wish I had before and after pictures.

I expect the majority of property along this stretch is zoned commercial. The best thing that can happen now is for the community support these new ventures, they be successful, property values go up and rift raft be forced out to make room for ventures that enhance the community.

Unworthy plebeians who lack the elegance and civility to mingle in high society.
Refined gentlemen sit above the juvenile tomfoolery of the riff-raff.

I've always thought a good lashing with a buggy whip would benefit you immensely.

Wow, I don't think the snobbishness of that term could be conveyed any more effectively than you have done here.

So who do you expect is more likely to invite you to have a Spam sandwich  - the unworthy plebeians in your 'hood or the refined gentlemen over at the country club?

I'm still cracking up. I had to look up the word plebeians......LOL. Anyone who knows me, know I'm a blue collar guy, not some country club type. Nevertheless, just STAY OFF MY LAWN!   lol
