Unfortunately, on a policy of her own it will probably cost even more because she will miss out on any discounts they might receive, first being the multi-car discount.  If she lives in their home, their insurer will more than likely require the kid to carry liability and uninsured motorist limits equal to those they have.

there are several issues involved as to civil liability of the parents and insurance rates  ---

is the teen 18 or older?

is there a vehicle in the teen's name or are they only driving a vehicle in parents name?
does their driver license show the same address as the parents?

is the teen a full-time high school student or are they full-time college?
