DON'T BLOCK THE BOX

Have you seen the big "X" painted in the middle of the intersections at GA 61 / US 278 and GA 92 / US 278 and wondered why they were there?

The Georgia Department of Transportation has launched an initiative called "DON'T BLOCK THE BOX" and the Paulding County Sheriff's Office, as well as many other law enforcement agencies, are starting a “DON'T BLOCK THE BOX" enforcement campaign. We will be cracking down on “Blocking the Box” or remaining in intersections and crosswalks after the light has turned RED. Our campaign is urging drivers to not “Block the Box” of the intersection by driving ahead if there is no room for your vehicle to completely pass through the intersection.

Blocking the box also prevents cross traffic from passing through when it’s their turn and it’s a violation of Georgia Law 40-6-205. Please help us increase awareness about this new initiative in order to help keep our roadways safe and less congested.#pauldingsheriff #Don'tBlockTheBox

Not sure if this is a safety precaution or a revenue booster. Not for nothing don't most know not to pull into the intersection?

Most people know red means stop but they still run red lights ALL the time.

If that were the case we wouldn't need something like this.

I've been around people who thought you were SUPPOSED to pull into the intersection so you'd be sure to get your turn. Thankfully, I don't ride anywhere with them now.

Looks like cities around the country have been doing that for years.

"Don't block the box" is just a dumbed-down word for gridlocking.

Revenue booster? How so? It has always been illegal. This box just serves as a visual indicator for the morons with no common sense who don't realize what the stop bars already painted on the roadway are for.

Maybe if they would synchronize the lights, people would not block the intersection. I am so tired of the light on the 92 side only letting 4 cars go at a time.
