~~~Paulding Teacher Charged ~~~
Recommended Posts
A former Paulding County teacher was charged with simple battery this week after reportedly pulling a chair from under a student in December.
The victim of the Dec. 16 incident at South Paulding High School was a 20-year-old special-needs student, according to reports from the Paulding County Sheriff’s Office and an Atlanta TV news outlet.
Sheriff’s office spokesman Sgt. Ashley Henson told the news outlet Johnston pulled a chair from beneath the student, who was not injured.
Terri Johnston, 35, was charged in the incident, which was witnessed by two people, a sheriff’s office report stated.
Paulding County School District spokeswoman Suzanne Wooley said, “The teacher is no longer employed with the Paulding County School District. Further questions should be directed to the Paulding County Sheriff’s Office.”
The incident was reported to the sheriff’s office after students returned from Christmas break on Jan. 5.
Johnston, a Buchanan resident, turned herself into the sheriff’s office Tuesday and was released on a $1,300 bond.
Why is a 20 year old still in high school? It isn't adult dare care. Special Needs or not these individuals that age shouldn't be dumped off on the schools to deal with.
Not sure that is quite a fair statement but I wondered why a 20 year old is still in high school too. Maybe there is no age cut off. Anyone know?
It is common in some schools with special education to keep special-needs children in school until they are 21 years old.
After 21, they usually are sent to rehabilitation centres for special-needs in Warm Springs, Rome/Cave Spring, Decatur, etc.
