Crestbend Lane victim was not victim of random shooting

The PCSO, in a release sent early this afternoon, confirmed that the as yet unnamed victim of the shooting at to 553 Crestbend Lane Powder Springs, GA was specifically targeted by those who committed the murder.  The shooting occurred after an altercation between the victim and an unknown number of assailants.

Investigators, including those from the PCSO and Georgia Bureau of Investigation determined that several shots had been fired and the victim sustained at least one fatal wound.  The 34 year old black man was unconscious and not breathing when officers arrived. Officers attempts at reviving the man failed.

Detectives said that the shooting did not appear to be a random act of violence but was the result of an altercation with the victim that ended in gunfire.

Authorities are continuing to pursue leads as to the identity or identities of the perpetrators.

The official release follows:

At approximately 12:39 am on January 13, 2017 Deputies responded to 553 Crestbend Lane Powder Springs, GA reference a possible shooting. The incident took place inside the Meadows at Northcrest Subdivision which is in unincorporated Paulding County. When Deputies arrived on scene, they made contact with the female homeowner who was extremely distraught. Once they entered the residence they found a 34 year old black male that was unconscious and not breathing who appeared to have sustained a gunshot wound. Despite Deputies’ attempts at first aid, the victim succumbed to his injuries.

As soon as the residence was secure, Detectives with the Criminal Investigations Division and Agents with the Georgia Bureau of Investigation arrived to begin their investigation and to process the scene. Through the course of the investigation it was determined that multiple shots were fired during the incident. After speaking with the female homeowner, it was determined that an unknown number of males got into an altercation with the victim which ultimately ended in gunfire.

At this point, further details in the case are developing and various leads are still being investigated. Detectives also stated that this did not appear to be a random act of violence. They further indicated that the victim appeared to have been targeted by the suspect(s). Since not all of the family has been notified of the victim’s death, we are unable to release his name at this time.

Detectives and Agents want to encourage anyone who saw or heard anything around 12:30 am on January 13, 2017 in the area of 553 Crestbend Lane to call (770) 443-3015 and share that information.

An execution-style killing, then?

I wouldn't suggest that Christopher Robin.  More like a melee in which the guys that brought the guns shot and killed the victim who may or may not have had a weapon himself (It was his home, after all).

All the detectives were saying was that regular Paulding residents ought not be so spooked by this incident that they should consider everyone who comes to their door they don't know to be a shooter ... and drop them in the drive way.  There is a likelihood that the assailants were known to the victim ... either that or they were sent there on a mission by a third party - which was your implication.  But they just weren't there because they liked the color of the house and wanted to argue and shoot someone in some kind of random home invasion crime. (In fact they didn't invade the home and did not accost the others in the house.)

I hope that they catch all involved, and bring justice to this father and his family as soon as possible.  So sad.  People have no regard for human life anymore.
