Grip RIP
RIP K-9 Grip (2004-2017)

The Paulding County Sheriff’s Office mourns the loss of K-9 Grep who passed away on Friday January 6, 2017. K-9 Grep, who was nearly 14 years old, began his service with the Paulding County Sheriff’s Office in December 2004 and retired in October 2013. K-9 Grep was a dual purpose law enforcement canine who was trained in patrol functions and narcotics detection.

Although K-9 Grep had been retired for over three years, he was beloved by many at the Sheriff’s Office. Throughout the course of his career, K-9 Grep was responsible for numerous felony apprehensions and many narcotics seizures. K-9 Grep will be remembered for his relentless drive and his unwavering desire to find narcotics, “bad guys”, and the love and praise of his handlers.

K-9 Grep was handled by Sergeant Ashley Henson for the first seven years of his career until Sergeant Henson got promoted to the full time role of Public Information Officer. After Sergeant Henson’s promotion, K-9 Grep was handled by Deputy First Class Rickey Waters.

Sheriff Gary Gulledge stated, “Grep was a great dog and an asset to Paulding County. He was also the brother to my dog K-9 Hondo. Law Enforcement canines live their lives to serve the communities they work for, K-9 Grep was the epitome of this. He will be sorely missed by us all.”

K-9 Grep passed away peacefully with those that loved him most by his side. He will be laid to rest behind the Sheriff’s Office in the K-9 Memorial area where K-9 Basco, K-9 Rudi, K-9 Chico, and K-9 Hondo are also buried. Please keep the Sheriff’s Office and the law enforcement K-9 community in your thoughts and prayers during this difficult time.

These canines are possibly the best asset a department can have. They are loyal, fearless and intelligent. Many Civilians, LEOs and soldiers owe their lives to mans best friend. RIP and thank you K-9 Grep.

I really enjoyed the little time I was around Grep.  He came to visit my scouts a few times and we (the PCOM community) came together to support purchasing a protective vest for him 10 years ago.  He was goofy but also all business when he went to work.  Here are a few pictures from my archives.  Grep and Grizz taking a breakIMG_3499w.JPG IMG_3500_w.jpg .
