This is my uncle. He has been around for more of my life than my own father. He was a very good hearted man who would help anyone he could and had a wonderful laugh. His volunteer time with a fire department was when I was a little girl he spent a lot of time with the Union (Rose's Store) Volunteer Fire Dept. where I believe he was an assistant chief. He trained many firemen back then. Hershey's chocolate cakes made by my MawMaw Hartley and back road rides with Aunt Nell and Uncle Marvin are favorite memories of my childhood. We will miss you Uncle Marvin.

"Founding Father of Union Volunteer Fire Department dies. Mr. Robert Marvin Hartley, of Temple Georgia, passes at age 80. Mr. Hartley helped start the station on February 6, 1976. Union Volunteer Fire became part of Paulding County Fire & Rescue in 1980. Friends say Mr. Hartley was a very energetic man and inspirational to the station's growth. At one point, he purchased a fire truck with his own money.
