Marshall T. Henderson III, age 31, of Hiram, GA, passed away on Friday, July 1, 2016. He was born in Boston, MA, on October 9, 1984. Marshall was preceded in death by his mother, Avis Renee Mahaffey, in 2015.

 

Marshall grew up all over America, from Marblehead, MA, to Orinda, CA, to Cincinnati, OH, to Dallas, TX, to Baldwinsville, NY, to Hartsville, SC, and to Libertyville, IL. He graduated from Libertyville High School in Libertyville, IL in 2002. After briefly attending St. John’s College in Santa Fe, NM, in 2002, the mental illness of Schizoaffective disorder led Marshall to return home to live with his parents in Plainview, NY. He moved to Hiram, GA, in October of 2013, and lived with his father until his death from congestive heart failure.

 

Survivors include his father, M. Thomas Henderson Jr. of Hiram, GA; sister & brother-in-law, Arden & Andrew Ward of Shelter Island, NY; nephews, Christopher & Tucker Ward of Shelter Island, NY; aunt, Lynn Henderson Hester of Hiram, GA; cousin, Bret Hester & wife, Andrea, as well as their three children, Daisy, Cal, & Eloise, all of Bethesda, MD; grandmother, Avis Drury Mahaffey of Lubbock, TX; aunt, Rebecca Dana of Lubbock, TX; cousin, Steven Dana of Louisville, KY; uncle, aunt & cousins, Gary, Carri, Paul, Trent & Troy Mahaffey; uncle & aunt, David & Mary Jane Mahaffey; cousins, Jennifer & Misty; uncle & aunt, Ron & Sharon Mahaffey of Las Vegas, NM.

 

At Marshall’s request, a private memorial service will be held for immediate family only. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Marshall’s memory to the National Alliance on Mental Illness. www.nami.org
