Mr. Lawrence “Larry” Prater, age 79, of Temple, GA, passed away on Sunday afternoon, July 5, 2015, in a local hospital.

 

Larry was born in Haralson County, GA, on September 28, 1935, the son of the late Charlie Andrew Prater and Julie Irene Miller Prater. He had been a resident of Paulding County for the greater part of his life and was a member of the Faith Missionary Baptist Church of Temple. Prior to retirement in 2001, Larry was associated with the Paulding County Board of Commissioners, working in the Maintenance Department. He loved all kinds of animals, including chickens, and was an avid fisherman. Larry was a huge country music fan. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, William Prater, and a sister, Lorene Prater.

 

Larry is survived by his wife of over 20 years, Connie Cole Prater, whom he married on November 17, 1994; four daughters and sons-in-law, Debbie Brand, Janice and Lee Thornton, Tonya Baugher, and Janet and Morris Hix; two sons and daughters-in-law, David and Melissa Prater, and Steven and Tish Prater; step-children, Steve Searcy and his wife, Debbie, and Sam Frye and his wife, Beth; one sister, and brother-in-law, Virginia and Ed Shuemake; one brother and sister-in-law, Roger and Sue Prater. A number of grandchildren, nieces, nephews and other friends and relatives also survive.

 

Funeral services for Lawrence “Larry” Prater will be held on Wednesday afternoon, July 8, 2015, at 1:00 p.m. in the Faith Missionary Baptist Church of Temple with Dr. Doug Ledford and Rev. Thomas Cole officiating. Interment will follow in the New Georgia Baptist Church Cemetery with Rev. Randy Clarke in charge of graveside rites.

 

Larry’s family will receive friends at Jeff Eberhart Funeral Home on Tuesday evening, July 7, 2015, from 4:00 until 8:00 p.m.
