Need help with an old gospel song

Recommended Posts

I only know part of the words, but I desperately want to know the name. So if you could please help, I'd greatly appreciate it! TIA. I have tried to find it online to no avail!!

Partial lyrics:

He worked in the garden until the sun went down

I followed in his footsteps in through the freshly plowed ground

.......???? when the sun hit his face

I heard Papa whistle Amazing Grace

I googled all manner of different ways and didn't find anything. I do have six different old hymnals in the living room. But I'm afraid I'd have to look through hundreds of songs to possibly find it. Do you have any more lyrics you can recall?

That brought a tear to my eye for sure.

It reminded me of my grandaddy, I was the only one of the kids that would go down to the fields to work with him. He talked a lot about Jesus he had a kind of sing song tone to his voice when he talked He always talked about how if you believed in Jesus there was nothing in life you could not overcome, of course the talks were always sprinkled liberally with lots of bible verses, but mostly it was spiritual in that he felt very close to Christ in a personal way.

It was not until I was much older that I began to understand his life and the many hardships he endured, many as a young man and child that were beyond his control.

As a man it took him a long time to walk the path that I saw.

He always felt that Christ understood his humanity, his imperfections, and he always felt forgiven. He gave me a true gift as I followed him through the rows of the garden.

What a lovely song, that brought back some cherished memories for me.
