HIRAM, GA. 30141 770-445-7133 FAX 770-505-7273 Paris Eleanor Sophronia Smith Paris, age 90, of Hiram, GA , passed away at St. Joseph’s Hospital on May 19, 2004. She was born in Odessadale, GA on March 10, 1914 to the late Arthur Clifford and Van Carter Smith. Eleanor moved to Hiram after graduating from Georgia State College For Women in 1935. She spent her teaching career at the old Hiram Elementary and High Schools, except for one year at Buchanan High. She was a demanding, yet fair teacher of Latin, English, and French and was loved and respected by her students and faculty. In the 1960’s she was twice named STAR teacher before retiring in 1972. Eleanor and her late husband, Hammett, whom she married in 1939, spent their retirement years traveling to warmer climates and at home gardening and mapping cemeteries of Paulding County. In addition to establishing a cemetery fund for Poplar Springs, Antioch, and the Carter family cemeteries, they wrote and published a history of Poplar Springs Baptist Church of Hiram, Georgia in 1981. Hammett and Eleanor were married 59 years, with Hammett preceding her in death on May 16, 1998. Surviving are her daughter, Annette Paris Rankin of San Diego, CA; a daughter and son-in-law, Jane Paris and James C. Talley of Hiram, GA; a son and daughter-in-law, Jack and Terri Paris of Hiram, GA; a sister, Ann Smith Bonner of Manchester, GA; grandchildren, Jodi Eberhart, Scott Eberhart, Justin Paris, Brandi Kelly and Brandon McMichael; great-grandchildren, Reed, Lexie and Macie Kelly, Caeleb McMichael. Funeral services will be held on Friday, May 21, 2004 at 11:00 a.m. from Clark Funeral Home in Hiram, GA with Mr. Steve Edwards officiating. The interment will follow in Poplar Springs Baptist Church Cemetery. The pallbearers will be Lee, Ben, Ted, Taz and Justin Paris, Scott Eberhart and Brandon McMichael. The family will receive friends on Thursday from 6:00 p.m. until 9:00 p.m. at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, donations may be sent in memory of Eleanor to the Poplar Springs Baptist Church Cemetery Fund, 184 Hiram-Douglasville Hwy., Hiram, Georgia 30141.
