Anyone see this article about Steve Golden?

I have already stated that I will not put any faith in what you have to say and as for giving the PC folks credit, keep in mind that Kathy Cox won Paulding County and she wasn't even running.

So your point is what? That all Paulding voters are stupid because your candidate was defeated? WOW!

No, that wasn't her point. You missed that a few posts back. There's no reason to be mean.

Let's just say that sometimes they don't have all of the facts about the folks running. I don't like being played and that is what I think you did.

Now I am in a rather major conundrum with this run-off. I am quite familiar with Ms Braddock, and her less than stellar performance with the BOE, as a businessperson, and as a member of the community. I am also well aware of various property "deals" she has had with our illustrious ex-commission chairman King Jerry and his partner Stan Stephens. If you get your e-shovel and start digging into the deeds on the various tracts and parcels of land to the east of and adjacent to the BOE Administration building as well as some across the street you will find several nuggets which include deeds with Paulette Rakestraw on them. Note that Stand Stephens bought the land, including the BOE Admin land from Regions bank out of a foreclosure. Sold part to the BOE, and then was preparing to develop the rest.

If the Civic Center bond referendum had gone through, you can bet the adjacent land is where it would have been built. Instead the BOE got part and the rest is available. That property is graded and ready to develop now.

What I am getting at is I see Paulette as King Jerry's political cartel's 2nd choice, and maybe even she was the first choice, in the district 19 seat.

There is no way I can support, or even consider voting for anyone in anyway tied or connected to Shearin and the Paulding GOP nutcase group. They are out for revenge at losing the chairmans seat and Echols seat 2 years ago and they are desperate to keep their foot in the door with Paulding politics and need to be escorted out of the building permanently. Exiled would be a better solution.

However, I am not enamored with Mr Stout, primarily because he feels compelled to base so much of his campaign on Religion, and like Feelip said, "Don't like beer in my cheerios or religion in my politics", and I feel very much the same way. I also feel RTL has no place in local or State politics. SCOTUS spoke with Roe v Wade, and has upheld that decision over and over again and that will not be chaning anytime soon, so drop it and move on. There are far bigger fish to fry.

But between the 2, I will have to lean towards Mr Stout. and I do so with many reservations.

But if he intends to win the runnoff, he had best start hitting the pavement and making appearances on p.com. Take the licks he will get, gently brush them off, make amends, and try to move forward. It will not be easy, and may not be very pretty as there are a couple of p.comers who are going to come after him with an ax handle intending to whoop the tar out of him for hoodwinking them las winter.

You should re-check your "facts". You have the wrong "Paulette Rakestraw" as owning that property. And, yes, there are 2.

It would be great to leave this whole SOAP OPERA behind and get to the business of finding a servant for the people, wouldn't it? I know no one is perfect but this has an uncomfortable level of "creepy" factor in it for me. Sorry, but it's too much info.

I agree. I posted it only in response to the accusation that there was an attempt to mislead the voters concerning these allegations. Somebody just couldn't let go without getting what they thought to be the last word accusatory statement on that. I hope that this puts it all to a rest.

This and other threads are chock full of rumor and innuendo spread by supporters of both Braddock and Stout. That is not the case here. It is a shame when a smear campaign is started in an attempt to deflect attention from the truth of a situation. I actually regret having to repost this, but could see no other way of convincingly showing that this was not misinformation or rumor mongering as was the implication.

I personally can not excuse the way Mr. Stout campaigned and won the special election, and like many have expressed, am absolutely torn on who will best represent the people of the 19th District and not use their office for the benefit of their supporters or themselves at the expense of the citizens of the 19th district and the citizens of Georgia. Ethics, personal and professional, count for a lot in my book.

I am considering all three candidates at this time, including Mr. Avery, something that I didn't think possible a few days ago. I would like to hear Mr. Avery swear that he will never vote in concert with David Scott, and then maybe he will move up on my list. I find it difficult to vote for even a conservative Democrat right now, because in order to move up or get along under the gold dome, newly minted representatives often believe that they have to play along with the party powerful, and the Democratic party powerful in Georgia are too liberal for me. Within that building elected officials forget why they were elected and begin to believe that a highly partisan stance is the way to survive, will of their constituents be damned. There is a lot of buyer's remorse and partisan pressure right now at all levels of government.

If you thought that is what I was doing then you missed my point too. I think if you want to continue discussing the runoff and the 2 candidates in the race that a new topic is in order. Mr Golden is no longer a candidate.

No NJ, I wasn't referring to you at all. I was simply agreeing with T-I-T's statement that it would be nice to get back to picking a representative without all the accessory poo flinging and sordid details, and explaining why I felt it necessary to post Mr. Stout's statement, not innuendo. Sorry if I mislead anyone or if I was misunderstood.

It probably is time for a new thread. Past time.

Danna,

Some advise here. Don't jump off the porch unless you are prepared to run with the big dogs.

Daniel campaigned last winter with his Religion, Christian Values, Family, and TRANSPARENCY as his core platform, along with holding down taxes, etc.

There was substantial banter about the special election on p.com, and many readers were early voters.

The Thursday or Friday, as I recall, before the election, the skeletons fell out of the closet, showing Mr Stout to be a bit less than transparent, and throwing a rather large wrench into the gears of his campagin platform as far as family values, etc.

Yes, yes, yes, we all know he was a young impetuous buck at the time of the "deed", but none the less, he did not fess up and be truthful about a rather blatant "Non-Family Values" event which led to a divorce with a child involved no less. Yes, that is in the past and he has repented and redeemed himself ten-fold since then.

Now had he come out 3 weeks before the election, while spouting his beliefs and values, and add, "Oh, by the way.....I had a bit of an indiscretion in my younger years.........", then I would bet all would have pretty much have been forgiven and forgotten by those who accepted the rest of his politics. But the manner in which the past indiscretion went public, left quite a bit to be desired. And many who had already voted for him I think felt betrayed, big time.

Now I am in a rather major conundrum with this run-off. I am quite familiar with Ms Braddock, and her less than stellar performance with the BOE, as a businessperson, and as a member of the community. I thought you left and said you weren't coming back BB ?

No, need to apologize, you are welcome either way.

And I fully expect for you to be out their promoting King Jerry's Girls in the run-off, both of them.

Now where did I say I wasn't coming back surepip? I realize I am getting older and my memory is not what it used to be but I don't think I said I would NEVER come back- sorry to disappoint you.

P. S. Just as you surepip, I have the right to support whomever I wish in not only the upcoming runoff election, but in every election.

This sounds more like an anti-female sentiment than an anti-Jerry one. Maybe David and the boys don't want women having any influence in the county.

BTW, you still haven't retracted your statement about Ms. Braddock, even though we both know it's not accurate.

Nothing sexist at all, other than King Jerry and his old GOP and RBMDs are the puppeteers with Braddock and Cochran. If the old group loose the Post 2 commission seat AND District 19, they will be out. Forced to sit on the sidelines and watch, and hopefully they will move on to other pastures to rape and pillage with their houses, houses, houses and let the rest of the county be damned.

If the parcel of land over near to the BOE building is a different Paulette Rakestraw, then indeed, I apologize for any connection to Braddock. Her use of the Rakestraw name when it suits her, and Braddock when it doesn't does lead to some confusion.

I have some serious reservations about Daniel Stout, but I have met with him and discussed them and can support him, especially over Braddock. Her attendance record and tax hikes at the BOE, along with general demeanor just don't cut it. But as one of King Jerry's Girls, I have to go with the other candidate.

Now we can officially let the games begin. BeachBum is in the house. :D

So, looks like you'd just prefer to build up the Austin Cartel. Even with no real vested interest in this community, Stout seems to be moving his way into that group while you continue to posts untruths about Braddock. Stout missed at least 2 days in 19, Braddock missed about that many in 8 years. So, attendance is an issue with you.

Or, are you simply counting on the fact that some are so unimpressed with Stout they would vote Avery over him?

I will gladly take an Austin Group working together than letting King Jerry get his hands on any power. He had his chance and became most adept at a rape and pillage of of Paulding. For Shearin and his group of RBMDs and former local GOP elite to get their hands on anything to do with Paulding County will force our tax issues and what we have to pay for to get worse and worse. Possibly devastating and it scares me. They had control for 12 years, .....solid control during some of the best economic times this country has ever seen, and what did they leave us ? In debi, no local jobs to speak of; houses and lots, houses and lots, and some more houses and lots. No push for diversity and their only plan was build houses.

Paulette is very much a part of that group. Stout isn't.

I want to stay to the high road. But I suggest you check your attendance records at the BOE meetings from 2000 to 2008. You will be less impressed with Braddock. Stout did miss some votes, but I believe he is committed to trying to do a good job for Paulding.

Are you kidding? Do you really think David Austin doesn't want women influening things in Paulding County. Just because he is not for Beverly Cochran has nothing to do her being female. And what "boys" are your referring to? David came into office on his own coat tail not that of someone else. He did not want Beverly Cochran (aka Jerry Shearin's) secretary for 8 years as his assistant so he moves her to another department and DA's office lays her off and she has an ax to grind with David so she runs for office. She is out bashing him all over the county in her campaigning. Beverly did not stand up for what was right when she knew of unethical things Jerry Shearin was doing so who is to say she will take a stand for right and wrong if she gets in office.

Thank you feelip. You missed me huh? I don't have much time these days for election chatter due to my Dad's recent illness. Thankfully, he is out of the hospital as of Thursday after a long hospital stay - he is feeling much better and his condition is continuing to improve.
