My DBF is one of the one's putting it up (or was)

He had never seen the pig... but he can't wait for his daughter to come down and be able to ride it! 8)

My Mom took me and my 2 sisters every year to ride it. This was back in the early 60's so it was the original Pink Pig. It was so much fun. We would start looking forward to our visit to Rich's right after Halloween. It was attached to a track on the ceiling and went above "Santa Land". Those were the days!! :p

I could have sworn the track used to be on the outside of the Rich's building. Wasn't it for a while?

It was just inside in the 50's, and some time in the 60's when they added Percival, it went outside around the Great Tree. At some point, the monorail portion indoors was deemed unsafe and it remained just on the roof in a Christmas Village.

I grew up in Atlanta. I rode the Pink Pig when it was inside in the Toy Department, and then when they moved it to the roof going through the Great Tree. Very Cold. I took my kids to the roof when they were young. Still cold, and often rainy. Never wanted to see it at anywhere else. I loved the Pink Pig.

Our parents would take my brother and myself to Rich's downtown every year and we would ride the Pink Pig and go see Santa Clause, it was our Christmas tradition. That was when it went around the toy Department in Rich's. It is such a wonderful memory that I will never forget. Over the years we would take our smaller cousins and now we plan to make it a Christmas Tradition with my niece I don't think You ever get too old to ride it . My mother, hubby and myself rode it with my niece at Lenox the first time we took her and we still enjoyed it as much as we did the first time we ever rode it. I think everyone should experience the Pink Pig...... It is magical.

My parents used to take us when we were kids. We went last year going to take grandson was 7months and line was 3 hrs. long so we decided to shop and have pictures with Santa. Maybe this year we can take him and at 18months he will at least know he is riding a pig.

Absolutely, I loved going to Rich's downtown during the holidays to see the Pink Pig and to have breakfast with Santa. This will be the first year we take the princess to ride it - we're definitely going to make the trip during the week, weekends at Lenox Square are a madhouse!!

I rode it once - at the Festival of Trees when I was in girl scouts...maybe 1993-ish? I've wanted to take little one to ride it since she was born.

We rode the Pink Pig this past Saturday at Lenox, it was opening day and everything was free. We had no idea going in that is was going to be that way and it was great. Pic with Priscilla Pig, muffins, fruit, juice and a pink ceramic piggy bank. We had a blast!

Yep. On the roof of the newer of the two buildings. I restored the Rich's buildings about 1979 or 1980 and we had to work around the pig and the pig tracks.

Does anyone have the story on how this came to be, and why? Is it because of the peppermint pig tradition? None of the stories that I can find tell anything about why a pink pig. When I first moved to the area I was sure that folks here had lost their minds when I heard about it.

And now I see this ... A portion of the proceeds will go to Children's Healthcare of Atlanta.... ride and ride often, folks.

My mother and grandmother used to take me every year to ride the pig and see Santa at Rich's. I remember it being cold when it was outside too. Also, remember the reindeer?! That was back in the 60's and 70's for me. I took my daughter a couple of times when it was at the festival of trees in the 90's.

Thanks ... one of the exact same stories that I read and it still doesn't say why he chose a pink pig instead of a bunch of reindeer or a train or whatever.

I rode it in the 1960's as a little girl. I would always wear my Pink Pig sticker to school to show that I had ridden it. I remember seeing Santa's reindeer as I waited in line to ride. We would also sit in Santa's lap and get a green sugar and jelled candy Christmas tree. Oh, and the night of the lighting of the Great Tree we would listen to the carolers in the stained glass windows. Those were the days!! My children rode the Pink Pig several times at the Festival of Trees.
