TO PARENTS OF CHILDREN IN SCHOOL (THIS IS TRUE, CHECK THE WASHINGTON TIMES AND THE NEWS ONLINE) ON TUESDAY SEPTEMBER 8, 2009 DURING SCHOOL A SPEECH GIVEN BY PRESIDENT OBAMA WILL BE WATCHED BY OUR STUDENTS IN CLASS. NO ONE KNOWS WHAT THE SPEECH IS ABOUT, HE IS SAYING IT IS TO ENCOURAGE THE STUDENTS TO STAY IN SCHOOL AND SUCCEED. 1. THE PAULDING COUNTY BOARD OF EDUCATION WILL NOT BE NOTIFYING THE PARENTS 2. NO LETTERS FROM YOUR CHILD'S SCHOOL WILL BE SENT HOME (BUT THE TEACHERS ARE INFORMED OF IT) 3. THERE WILL BE A "LESSON PLAN" WITH THE SPEECH 4. SOME OF THE QUESTIONS IN THE LESSON ARE WILL YOU FOLLOW THE PRESIDENT AND SUPPORT HIM?, WHAT DO YOU THINK YOU CAN DO TO HELP AND SUPPORT THE PRESIDENT? ETC. 5. THERE WILL BE NO PERMISSION SLIPS SENT HOME EITHER. MY CONCERNS ARE THIS:I DO NOT WANT ANY PUBLIC OFFICAL OR FIGURE TO SPEAK TO MY CHILDREN WITHOUT MY PRESENCE OR KNOWLEDGE OF WHAT WILL BE SAID. WHY CAN'T THE SCHOOLS INFORM THE PARENTS ALSO IF YOU ARE NOT IN AGREEMENT WITH PRESIDENT OBAMA AND DID NOT VOTE FOR HIM, DO NOT AGREE WITH HIS PROPOSALS, ISSUES, AND OVERALL JUDGEMENT AND ABILITY. THEN WHY SHOULD YOUR CHILDREN BE MADE TO WATCH A SPEECH BY HIM THAT IS SHOWING (BUT DON'T KNOW FOR SURE SINCE NO ONE KNOWS WHAT THE SPEECH IS ABOUT) OUR CHILDREN TO SUPPORT HIM AND WHAT HE WANTS TO DO. GOOD OR BAD NOW, FOR THE ONES WHO VOTED ON PRESIDENT OBAMA, TO EACH IS THERE OWN AND I HOPE YOUR CHILDREN ENJOY IT. MY OVERALL CONCERN IS THE FACT IT IS BEING DONE WITHOUR PARENTAL CONSENT OR KNOWLEDGE. YOU MAY CALL THE SCHOOLS AND HAVE YOUR CHILD TAKEN OUT OF CLASS. I HAVE ALREADY HAD BOTH OF MINE ON THE LIST TO BE SITTING OUT. BURNT HICKORY AND MCCLURE KNOW ABOUT IT AND ARE NOT TELLING PARENTS AS OF TODAY. SO GIVE THEM A CALL AND ASK QUESTIONS. ALSO A LADY IN THE PAULDING COMMUNITY HAD BEEN TOLD THAT HER HUSBANDS NATIONAL GUARD UNIT WILL BE ON HIGH ALERT IN PAULDING COUNTY ON SEPTEMBER 8 FOR THIS VERY REASON. PLEASE RESEARCH THIS AND BE INFORMED

This thing about the National Guard is probably just a rumor.

First owww with the font and the sentences running together.

When did you get this? I called the BOE this A.M. and they are letting the pronciables make the decision how to handle it. Nebo told me that they WILL be sending home a letter explaining that if you want your child to opt out you can. We do not have to have our kids listen to him. At this point he is too controversial and I just don't trust anything he or his adminastration has to say.

BTW take a trip over to the politacl discussion for 2 more threads. Here's one to get you started.

Well...considering my daughter is 5 and will probably forget everything he had just said as soon as the tv goes off....I could care less either way.

Here we go again, wah, wah, wah. Didnt Bush the first give a speech to students when he was in office? Was there such a big deal made about it? I don't think so. Good grief. Why is the National Guard being called in? Can we put this in the category with the swine flu threads? To those of you who dont want your children to watch the big boogey man, send a note in with your child, stating my child is not allowed to watch or listen to anything Barack Obama the boogey man has to say, Thank You. The end.

I dont mind the kids hearing a speech if its kid appropriate. It does seem strange that he is going to speak to our kids but we cant know what will be said. I think its a good lesson for the kids to learn that wether you voted for him or not he is the president and things will be much smoother if we work together to solve problems rather then spend the 4 years complaining about what is wrong.

kids have to learn about history/politics/etc and really its not like the teachers discuss all the lessons/videos/slides with us so this probably isnt any different.

I am shocked at the way this is being handled though. If a child says boo the school wants to discuss it and gosh knows if they wanted to discuss the swine flu they would be notifing us. I think Im up to 3-5 letters about that laugh.gif

Okay, I've just had a preview of the video (friend at the BoE). It is simply the President warning our children about the dangers of swine flu and encouraging them to get their swine flu shots.

I said speech not reading a book and I also said Bush The First. Maybe you should read it right.

Here you go, what's the difference. Maybe who's giving the speech?

1989: George H. W. Bush gave televised address to students about drug use. To watch then-President George H.W. Bush's speech, which was delivered at noon from the White House library, "many schools held assemblies or brought television sets into the classrooms so students could watch Mr. Bush," according to a New York Times article published at the time. The Times further reported that "[a]t least 15,000 superintendents and 55,000 principals were notified by the Education Department of the speech today."

1991: Bush addressed students on importance of education. The Associated Press reported at the time that Bush "had urged teachers and principals beforehand to let their students tune in to the speech, carried live by the Cable News Network and public television":

Umm OK. Then what does the "lesson" materials have to do with the H1N1? NONE of the questions or actitves even mentioned the swine flu or any other health related issues. I will copy and paste them later as I have a place I need to be at.

From what I've read, the speech is going to be about the importance of education. Similar to the speech Bush number one gave, so did anyone have a fit about him giving the speech? But its going to be okay, I promise you that Obama can not snatch your little ones through the T.V. And also, you will have the National Guard there to protect them.

Since I know it's going to happen (by reading this thread) I plan to have a talk with my sons concerning the President's speech. When they get home from school that day we will have another talk just for an opportunity to discuss whatever he said and share my opinion. I do not feel it helps to shelter our children. Take this opportunity to "teach" your children the values you hold on issues they may not otherwise understand. I also believe our children should learn the value of respect. I am not an Obama supporter but he is the President. If you are that concerned about it call the school and see if you can sit in the classroom and watch with your children.

I got this one, too. I do not necessarily care for Obama, but I don't see the harm in letting the kids see this. In fact, he IS the Pres. of the U.S. - so his message might as well be heard - the lesson is for the kids, anyway. I don't think what he's going to say is supposed to be controversial.

Let me get this straight, is the concern that the President is going to be addressing school children?
"There comes a time in your life, when you walk away from all the drama and people who create it. You surround yourself with people who make you laugh. Forget the bad, and focus on the good. Love the people who treat you right, pray for the ones who don't. Life is too short to be anything but happy. Falling down is a part of life, getting back up is living."

Yeah, I actually think having kids sit out and not watch it sends the wrong message to the kids. It tells them that the President of the U.S. is a bad person, for whatever reasons you tell them. We cannot expect to ever fix the problems in this country by acting this way.

I know it is a little radical but maybe the parents should have been a little more proactive during Hitler's time. The president is a socialist. Luckily we live in a free country where I am able to say that. And please don't tell me to respect him because he has not done a thing to earn that respect.
If he was republican I would still feel the same way. You can all say we are crazy but crazier things have happened and will continue to happen. So sit back and enjoy your freedom because the way things are going it will soon be gone.

Well I guess we'll have to take you word for it. I can't find anything where either Bush spoke directly to our school children. If you have the sources for your information (you know links) I would gladly take a look at them.

My daughter was in school when Bush sr. was in office and she never watched him on t.v in school.

Bush Sr. wasn't "the" Annoited One unlike BO to the lefty masses.

Free Bird posted-Okay, I've just had a preview of the video (friend at the BoE). It is simply the President warning our children about the dangers of swine flu and encouraging them to get their swine flu shots.

Like I said none of the "lesson" materials address health issues.

Yeah, I actually think having kids sit out and not watch it sends the wrong message to the kids. It tells them that the President of the U.S. is a bad person, for whatever reasons you tell them. We cannot expect to ever fix the problems in this country by acting this way.

Uh...yeah, BO is such an angel who surrounds himself with thugs..yeah, he sets a great socialist example. wink.gif

IMHO: This is much ado about nothing. CNN, Fox and all of the news stations will know exactly what the President is going to say before the speech and they will tell us -- over and over and over and over and over.....

I say to let the kids listen to what he has to say. If you disagree with what he says, then sit down and talk to your kids about it. Use this as the start of something that parents should be doing with all of the lessons your kids learn in school - talk to them about it.
Sometimes no comment is the best comment.

The speech is about the importance of staying in school. I read that Sept. 8 is the date it's supposed to air, which matches that date.

I think the real issue is a lot of parents see him for the socialest/marxist/possiable communist he is. And we just out and out do not TRUST him and those he sorrounds himself with. After all 44 tsars with far far far far left ideals is not what we bargarined for.
