My wife and I have been frequent guests of--(and I'm not sure of the rules for posting business names, so please forgive me if I make a boo-boo)--Bandido's on the square in Dallas since we moved to Paulding county.

It's kind of been our weekly date night, Friday nights, Mrs. Marine and I head over there for dinner when I get off work.

We were saddened to hear about their upcoming closing, at the end of the month.

I've been meaning to ask Jesse, the owner, what was going on, but every time we've been in lately, he's been busy, and I didn't want to interrupt. Has anyone asked? Do they just not have the business to keep operating, or does he have bigger and better plans somewhere else?

I'm secretly hoping it's the latter, and that he's going to reopen somewhere close. But being the realist I am, I doubt it. Probably another victim of the lagging economy.

One can either fight city hall or run a business.

Hard to do both --- without a lot of help.

Me too. sad.gif

I've only eaten there a handful of times, but they have some of the only real authentic Tex-Mex food around. Being from Texas, eating there was like being at home.

Well, not having been on pcom for a few months, it sounds like I'm missing something. Anyone care to fill me in? Link to relevant threads? Or are we talking your average, everyday, run-of-the-mill issues with high taxes?

This is getting ridiculous, you have to get into a political fight or have your ATM card ripped off to get a decent taco anymore.

Can't Travis Tritt or somebody just buy the City of Dallas the way Kim Basinger bought Braselton 20 years ago and put an end to this?

It started with a certain well known attorney having a cow over Bandidos having tables outside ... I believe it was "against city ordinance." Jesse did everything to clear this up & unfortunately I believe there was purposeful miscommunication to get him in trouble over the tables. Then the said attorney had a cow over his little sign on main street. How much would one want to fight?

There are powers at be who would probably like to run every business out of main street b/c of the cheap rent. When the university goes in ... well, that's another story.

This is just my take on the situation.

(if you search Bandidos, you'll see a bunch of threads with more detailed info)

First, the tables had to go. The city decided the tables were not in keeping with the appearance the city wanted.

Second, the sign ordinance was enforced against him & he had to go before a judge on that one. Fined $1650 in free food for indigent & the judge donated $1650 to Helping Hands as a "Xmas Gesture."

Outside seating was a big draw on pretty days & nights. The attorney fees, etc. ... just too much.

The moral of the story: don't even think about standing up for your rights or calling attention to pettiness or any wrongdoing by the city. Resistance is futile.

I am sure the closing of the courthouse was the nail in the coffin. When they lose that customer base their sales will take a huge hit.

I feel for them as being run out of the place is more to do with politics then food.

Stinks to see a nice place run out of there.

Well one last place for them to eat at. I hope the lawyer is happy.

I hope the person responsible eats some bad food and spends the day in the john. LOL

The City of Hiram welcomes business. Liquor licenses are maybe a little steep, but they are very straight forward. Would Jessee consider moving?

I think you were dead on, that's what I remember happening too. Wasn't it only Bandido's that the attorney chose to go after over signs?

I fantasize about my dogs having jobs. I pretend that both of them are window cleaners and their kennel is their first starter home. I think the bigger dog is trying to bump off the smaller dog so he can have the kennel to himself. I know I have a problem, but don't animals have to earn a living too?

Dogs may not be our whole lives, but they make our lives whole.

Just to be clear - Bandido's served food to the needy. He then turns his receipts in to Helping Hands. Helping Hands pays Bandido's for the food. The judge reimburses Helping Hands.

This is what I was hoping to read. Problem solved: Just move OUT of the Dallas City Limits. I don't think anything will survive in that location when the Courthouse moves. And, already a little renovated cafe is moving out. There won't be anything left downtown for those who do continue to work there.

It was Osborn but he did the right thing, a very good thing, IMHO, by donating the money to Helping Hands to make sure the dollar figure of the fine is reimbursed to Bandidos.

Edited to Add my disclaimer : I'm only giving my opinion in regards to this situation, as biased as it may be, but with as much fairness as I can possibly muster. I admit my bias as everyone should. I am basing my opinion solely on me experience, education, training & knowledge of the facts as I know them to be, though I don't claim to have knowledge of every facet of the situation, event or people involved. To be intellectually honest I try to seek out & weigh new information to make sure I am factually correct. I seek to be historically accurate, morally fair & ethically consistent as all Americans should do.
