Augustine Glass: 46 Years of Dedication

Recommended Posts

Augustine Glass, popularly known as Tina by her co-workers passed away in her sleep on March 28th, 2004.

She came to work at our hospital as a young lady and has taken care of many of you and has taught many of her co-workers the meaning of compassion and caring.

She always had a kind word for me whenever she saw me, and was always ready to lend a helping hand with my patients. In short, she was a valued member of our health-care team and will be sorely missed.

Her funeral was today at Shiloh Baptist Church, and many of her friends, fellow church-members and co-workers came to pay their last respects. If you knew our Tina, we at Wellstar Paulding Hospital would like you to know that we share in your loss, and that we all agree there will never be another like her.

Augustine Hortense Glass.

April 4, 1933-March 28th, 2004.

May you rest in peace, and thank you for sharing your life and dedication with us.

I have been blessed with the honor of knowing Augustine Glass since I was around 9 years old. My mother went to work at the hospital at that time, and she worked with Tina, and they became fast friends. Two of my aunts and my grandmother also worked with her. When I was 18, I also went to work at Paulding for a few years, and then I had the pleasure of working with her, although not as closely as they did.

My mother always used to say that Tina "came to the hospital with the bricks" since she started along with one of my aunts when the hospital was built.

I recently was able to see Tina again when my son was hospitalized last month and had emergency surgery. She did not have him as a patient, but was always checking in with us to see if we needed anything. If there ever was a time anyone in my family was in the hospital, she was always there for us.

My family and I have many great memories of Augustine, and we will truly miss her. Wellstar Paulding won't be the same without her.

BTW, Wellstar was wonderful to us when my son was there last month!

I am a newbie..but I have been visiting PCOM for a while now-and have really enjoyed it!

Welcome, Dar! :D

And if you knew Augustine and interacted with her you are already a friend of mine!

She touched many young lives (read that as "future nurses") at Wellstar and her influence will be felt for many years to come.

Currently, I am hard at work thinking (thinking is hard work for me! ;) ) of a place in our hospital we can name after our Tina. I will put the word out at Paulding, but in the meantime if you or any one else has an idea, please send me an e-mail.

Thanks

Thanks, Q.

I will let you know if any ideas. My mom was over PR when she worked at Paulding-I'll discuss it with her.

It's amazing that someone endures on a job these days for 20 years-much less 46!

She definitely needs to be honored..

Have a great weekend!

Hey Dar. When I was at work last night, I noticed a collection was being taken up for a memorial plaque to name the Med-Surg Nurses's station after Tina and Diane Gulledge, another nurse we lost just recently.

I think that's a great idea, but if we build a new facility, I would want that honor to carry over to the new building.

  • 2 weeks later...

Hey there, Q.

I am sorry I have not been able to get back with you. Have been EXTREMELY busy. If/when the new hospital is built, hopefully they will name med/surg after them--there are several avenues they could take.

I remember when all the rooms on the 3rd floor could be sponsored in memory of/or donated by someone-i.e. the plaques on the door. (I was a kid then-- )

My aunt's picture used to be in the lobby as she was the first administrator. Wonder where it is now?

Have a great weekend..

Hey dar. I wanted to amend that last post to include the late great Carolyn Baulding, (or CB, as she was more popularly known). Donations for the plaque are being taken on the Med-Surg floor, and the plaque will honor all three of these wonderful ladies who were such an integral part of patient care at our little hospital.

I am sorry to say that I did not notice your aunt's picture having been removed from the lobby, but I seldom enter that way anymore. If it is no longer being presented in the lobby perhaps it is hanging in the board room. Shall I check for you?

Dr. Smith's picture may be seen in our ER admitting area, and of course our Sub-Acute Unit is named after Kate Shealy Vaughn and her portrait may be seen there.

I pass by all those non-dedicated rooms every night as I make my rounds, and yes, it is sad that so many patients have passed without being recognized, but I am of the firm belief that they got great "one-on-one" hometown care and TLC from the employees of our little hospital.

Thanks

I tell you, I wasn't sure how things would go when my son was there in February. But everyone was WONDERFUL to us. I could not have asked for better care for him-especially when he wasnt the greatest post op patient in the world... :)

I will let my mom know about the plaques.

I will be glad to see a larger hospital be built-so it can grow with the county-and more and more can get their healthcare here than elswhere..

Have a great weekend and an exciting vacation!!!
