After everyone here was raving about The Steak House in Rockmart my husband and I and friends decided to try it Friday night. What a beautiful old house from the outside. It was all decorated for Christmas. I got a Flat Iron steak. It was so good and just the right size at 6 ozs. We'd never heard of that cut before. Do any of you know how to find out the calorie and fat grams? Oh, I highly recomend the The Steak House. Very nice people and very good food! My meal was $9.95.

Thanks! biggrin.gif I just got back from Kroger before tying the above. We found them there and bought two. Can't wait to see how they come out at home. We put them in the freezer for later. I looked up Flat Iron steaks on the internet. Said they are only second in tenderness to terderloin. Still wondering about calories and fat though.

It is a realtivly lean cut of meat, and does best seared over very, very high heat, rare, and cut on the bias. Slice the meat with the knife tilted at a 45 degree angle cutting away from you. It will make it even more tender.

And don't cook it too long. I've taken it off the grill sooner than the recipe calls for. They are deelish. Interestingly, when they were first introduced at Kroger you could get them dirt cheap, like $3.99. The last time I bought them they were $8.99 a pound.
Sorry, I don't take guilt trips. I already travel too much as it is..

No, cause when we got to Wal-mart we called The Steak House and some nice person there told us just how to get there. I know I'll be going back.

Thanks surepip! I'll keep this in my recipe box so I'll know how to cook them. Don't know if I can do rare but medium will be more likely.

I tried them recently too and discovered they were very tender. I won't buy steaks at the local grocery store anymore bc they are so tough and only buy them at Costco where I have found them very tender at great prices. But the flat iron steaks at Kroger were delicious - even went back two more times and bought more. I marinated mine in Worchester sauce and garlic before grilling. I also second - don't overcook! Enjoy!
