Looks like Paulding Co. Football and someone from our B.O.E is looking at doing away with the
ANNUAL "BATTLE OF DALLAS" GAME....I would hope that who ever these folks are take a REAL
HARD look at what this game means to this COUNTY...This is a game to HONOR a very special
COACH that did many things for this COUNTY.COACH KEN"BIG DADDY"PHILIPPS was very
instrumental in making this a special contest between the county's first 2 High Schools...
Paulding Co. and East Paulding. Both schools are in DALLAS....Just thought people should
know what some people are trying to do to this ANNUAL GAME that HONORS A GREAT
COACH, AND MAN..........

Lets here your thoughts

maybe they could move it to a pre-season game if the different classes that the schools are in is the root of the problem

Could it be that the reason they'll no longer play one another is that E.Paulding has moved into AAAAA?
Perhaps it has nothing to do with any sort of conspiracy at all.

This is one reason why I liked the way Michigan did the HS football schedule. You had to play the teams in your conference which was usaully five to six games then you chould play whoever you wanted to fill out the rest. I went to a small school so we would schedule at least one game against the public schools down the road - Yes we knew we would lose but my school, and many in our conference didn't have lighted fields so it was cool to play on a Friday night at least once or twice a year instead of Sat afternoon. I would hope they would keep a inter town rivalry game going, seems to only make sense regardless of class.

I have no insights into the OP or why this is being done away with, but the schools do have some games to play non-region. I think that all of the Paulding County schools should play one another. It helps makes it more of a community thing. It can only boost ticket sales!

I hope this does not happen. The boy's from both school's look forward to this game every year. It makes no difference about 5A or 4A because for the past couple of years PCHS has been 5A and EPHS has been 4A. It's a tradition and the folks in this county love it especially the boys. I for one will be very disappointed if this happens.

The reclassification should have nothing to do with the game this year EP was in 4 A and PC was in 5 A next year EP 5 A and PC 4A no difference just reversed!!!!

One way to show folks we want this ANNUAL GAME to continue is to
call the B.O.E and Paulding Co. High School and voice our opinions..
I know this could not be coming from Coach Sauls. He knows what
this means to the County and these 2 schools...Also, what's funny is
when P.C. was winning all the time.No one ever said anything about this.

Each team can fill their non-region schedule. The board doesnt control that. It is the coach and ad's decision (mainly the coach) on whom to play out of the region.

EPDAD your completely right. When PCHS was winning the Rivalry game all the time, nothing like this ever came up. So now the powers to be over at the Board what to stop the Battle of Dallas, all because their precious chosen school PCHS has been getting their butts kicked for the past few years. I tell ya what, The board is made up of nothing but a bunch of homers and cry babies. If its got to do with anything concerning EPHS then we all might as well forget about it. Thats like this past season, not a single board member showed up to any of our games. When EP got into the playoffs, no one was there when we played Ridgeland, or Mays. But when it came time to play someone that we might actually lose to in which we did. Members from the Board decides they want to show up and watch us lose. I don't know what their problem is over there, and I don't know why they have it out for EPHS, but things have got to change folks. All of EP supporters just need to stick together and hang in there. I assure you all change is coming. As far as the Battle of Dallas goes. How can the Board take something away that Coach Phillips put together between the schools. The Battle of Dallas meant so much to Coach Phillips, and now all the board members want to do is shut it down. Well I say we shut them down.

Absolutely. I like traditions, especially this one. I also like seeing all of the gate money stay in the County.

PCHS has always been looked upon as the school to represent the County in any high school function.

I haven't noticed that.

Perhaps they would rather play South Paulding or North Paulding each year instead. Looks like a pretty poor football situation over there.

Whoa nelley, 1st off NPHS has only a freshman class and did very well with the situation they will be fine in a couple of years. SPHS had its 2nd year of football this year and will be a strong contender in their region next year. When a team only has 5 senior players and 3 were hurt most of the year, and a few juiors that played and you are playing teams that have mostly senior starters you will have a hard time. Look out for the Spartains this year, a great coach, a great group of young men that are playing with heart, and a great school spirt. Go Spartains.

It sure used to be that way! Mainly because they were the original HS in the county and most of the people who were in ADMIN. and on the Board graduated from there. wink.gif

There used to be a TRUE Jamboree before the season started. Now it's nothing. Here is my thought on this....... have a Football Jamboree with all the Paulding Teams each year, the first year draw the name out of the hat for the hosting school. Rotate the hosting school each year. Have some sort of trophy that goes to the winner each year. Each school doesn't get a new trophy but, the same trophy gets passed back and forth. Not only will they get the trophy until next year, they get bragging rights for being the "best" team in Paulding. Charge for parking and the game. Then, donate the gate money or parking money to a PAULDING COUNTY charity! I think it would be a great community event ! It could be the "kick off" to the football season for all the teams in the county. It could also be kept "light" and in an almost festival type atmosphere. Each school could have a tent to sell their shirts, hats, etc. and there could even be some sort of competition between Booster Clubs.... like a chili cook off or something like that. Just an idea but, I think it's workable! smile.gif

This is not what this game is about.....It was started for COACH KEN PHILIPPS.....He enjoyed this GAME as much as anything
He would sit on the HILL or be in the endzone and watch....He told me many times how much he really enjoyed being around the BOY"S before and after the GAME....At the end of the GAMES he would make his way to the center of the field and give one of his "THAT A BOY'' speeches to both PAULDING AND EAST PAULDING....He loved the game of FOOTBALL but more than that
he LOVED the BOY"S that PLAYED....He knew what this GAME meant and he would not want it any different now.....
I guess TRADITION means nothing to the ones that want to change this..............

I love tradition! dry.gif I never knew this was all about Phillips. I always thought it was about the players and bragging rights!

Sorry that I got you all upset (or at least that is the way it looks)! I just thought may make a bigger impact and touch more young lives if it became a community/county thing for all the high schools in PC. Something along the lines of "The Ken Phillips Annual Football Jamboree"!
