I didn't see this was a fatality accident. At least that was not reported.

Second, if the description of the vehicles is inexact and it is a fatality accident, then the mods may, out of caution, edit the information but generally speaking, I personally don't think that is necessary.

My experience in these types of accidents is that it is often unclear even in such a situation that the driver of the 'station wagon' or other description is deceased is given.

I would suggest that if it is close enough to metro Atlanta and there is a TV chopper in the air, the vehicles will be displayed on TV live if it is a slow news day.

Do send me a link to that 'rule' ... I must have missed it.

Here you go - stating a general description - like a red chevy passenger car is not permited - as decided two years ago.

Clarifying the paulding.com policy about scanner.

Just like the scanner, paulding.com edits out names and vehicle descriptions until we get official word.

Just like people on the telephone, rumors start flying. Paulding.com is no different. The mods edit that information out.

Someone above said that the vehicle descriptiosn were posted before the family was notified. 100% not true. No vehicle descritions were in the post that I saw until long after the family was notified.

The point is that we try to be sensitive just like in real life. Just like in real life, people want to know and people start talking. Often people make guesses. Rumors start. That is real world. Hope everyone will be mindful. Mods stay on this but we can't be everywhere.

The policy is to not name names or give vehicle descriptions. The point being made is already being done.

The policy has been in place for over two years believe it or not.

Mods aren't everywhere. It does happen. We make mistakes. Forgive our being human. We try to live up to the policies the mods have in place.

We hope members with a conscience would let us know when that happens so we can get on top of it quickly. Please let us know when you see something like this happening.

One of my neighbors was involved in this accident. He was the driver of one of the vehicles. Currently he is extremely critical in Grady Hospital which is where I am heading in a few minutes. The extent of his injuries are still not known as they have been trying to keep him stabilized and have just finished xraying him. What we do know is that his leg is crushed, fx ribs and many internal injuries. I ask you all to pray for this family. They are good and decent people who are from Maryland (only one elderly sister here) and have been run through the ringer these past few years. His wife just buried her mom and they have 3 small children at home, one of which is facing major surgery herself. They will need all the prayers you can offer up. Thank You

Obviously, what we have here is a failure to communicate.

I see the date and time and all I can say is that the issue, to my recollection, never came to my attention before, at least in this context.

Fact is there are no journalists on the mod team and they do have a different value system than journalists.

Since the role of the members in moments of this nature are to practice citizen journalism; they have to be able to write what they observe or it is bull.

the mods, in their infinite wisdom (or myself) may see a bit of information that needs verification and they may question it and in some cases, they may make it invisible as we all await some sort of verification but I don't think they should edit the reports.

The mods also have the ability to edit information although I really prefer they not do so ... setting a topic invisible but leaving it unchanged is much, much preferred.

All this said, it is obvious to me what one of the topics at our next get together will be. Thanks for bringing it to my attention Freebird.

In the not too distant future, we'll clarify this to the satisfaction of all concerned.

So, does that mean the people posting all accidents and incidents can be more specific, like vehicle descriptions? Like it used to be?

I would have breathed easier with the vehicle descriptions. At the same time, if I had recognized the description, I would have been able to hit the road much more quickly and get to my family that much faster. I think some description is better. I have one heck of an imagination, and if I don't have the facts, I can create an amazing story in my mind. I would rather know what to worry about up front.

This is exactly the reason why names and descriptions should not be given. Family members will try to rush to the accident scene and possibly cause another accident on the way there. Please people, have respect for the injured parties instead of trying to be the nosey poster. I am a 911 dispatcher and former law enforcement officer. I have seen too many accidents happen because of too much information given out on this site. The family members will let us know what happened and who was involved if they feel it is necessary.

I'd like to hear more details, there. Exactly how many accidents are we talking about?

One would think if "too much information" had "caused" any accidents... we'd have heard.

(I'm not sure how "too much information" can cause accidents, in the first place. I don't buy it.)

If it's my family or friends in the wreck... I'd want to know it as soon as possible.

That might be via phone call... but it might be via Pcom, TV news, radio or scanner.

However I can get that information the quickest, it is most welcome, I assure you.

I wouldn't want to find out about it two days after the fact.

Yeah, I probably would go to the scene.

Either that, or directly to the hospital, if I knew they'd already been transported.

But... if I have an accident on the way there, that has zero to do with where I got my information

You know, reading it here is better than getting the hysterical screaming phone call and then trying to drive home. I would rather hear it as a strong possibility here and start towards home than get someone in my family calling me with all the emotion behind it.

And I am not an idiot. I can drive. If I am an hour away, I can start driving towards home much, much quicker than waiting the 45 minutes or more to receive official notification while my loved one is seriously hurt and needing family there. No info and you sit there on edge while you WAIT for official notification.

I want info. If you cannot handle it, don't read it. You can choose to turn it off. I choose to be informed.

Yea, this sounds like major hyperbole (what!!! On this site? Never!! ) if I ever heard any. If you can get the information over the free airwaves, what difference does it make to repeat it here?

As for waiting for a call, when I'm gone and the kids are at school, there is no one except my wife at home. Who exactly is supposed to call me and let me know if she's had an accident? How are they going to have my work number? It could take hours to track me down. If I get the news 4-6 hours later, how is that going to make me feel better? That's goofy to say thats the "only" way I should be contacted. Sounds like somebody has bought into the socialist line. "We're from the government and WE know what's best for you"

To make the proper choice in anything in life, you have got to have the most information possible. I've never seen anything (other than some of the discussions in the Tonk) where there really was "too much information"

Turn off the forum if you prefer to live in a hole and let the government "protect" you.

This issue of details has been hashed around plenty before.

Pat has made it clear that informative posts can stay on his site.

I believe GAPEACH is a dispatcher in Douglas County and is entitled to his/her opinion. Let the opinion stand and lets move on. Many time in wanting to "win the argument" we forget about the thread that we are posting in.

Four air rescue choppers were in the parking lot of an elementary school. Many people have pain today because of the accident yesterday.

And since I couldn't get my wife to answer on the cell phone or at the house, I wondered for a while if one of them had her in it until she called me back.

She travels that road a lot.

Prayers for healing to all involved and for the families. Thank God no fatalities this time.

Hubby and I were talking about the dangers of 61 last night!! We live off of high shoals. I work in Marietta. I take two of the worst imaginable turns going to and from work. Turing off or on high shoals , and turning off or on northside chruch. I pass 5 crosses just on 61 and old cartersville. It is terrifying!!! How come Cobb has those nifty little signs that warn those turning off of side streets that there is on coming traffic? Is there a body count that has to be reached before something is done? The last horrid wreck is what led me to p.com in the first place. That was in August (one fatality) and right after there had been two other fatalities the weekend before on the same stretch of road. More so I am tired of bitchin about it!! I want action. Can someone please tell me what can we DO to provoke change and seek safety precautions in placed?? After the last fatal accident SO patrolled more for a while but that has since deteriorated!!! I love Paulding but I have no intention of handing my life over to hwy 61. As I am sure no one else did either. I understand accidents happen. But when do they say ok there has been far too many lives lost BECAUSE of this road, something must be done??

There is one confirmed fatality in this wreck. He is a young man from the area and I am told 23 years old. He was the passenger in the pick up truck that my neighbor was driving. His family could really use some prayers.

My neighbor was in surgery most of the night and is now doing well. He has not been told of this fatality yet. He keeps asking but the doc's want to wait a bit more. He will truly be devastated. Please also keep him and his family in your prayers.

I do not know how the other two are doing but I hope and pray that they will pull through.

High Shoals Rd an 61 is just a bad place you have limited sight there need to be a light just for turning cars on and off 61

so the cars turning would trigger the light for traffic to stop

"i have almost ran into cars coming onto 61 south I'm doing the speed limitthey just don't see you when your down in the hole coming up the hill"

First of all, the speed limits posted on many roads throughout this county often do not take into account the increased volume of traffic we are dealing with. What works for 40,000 people probably won't for 125,000 or more. There are at least five blind intersections between Braswell Mtn. Rd. and the city limits of Dallas, which is a distance of roughly seven miles - not to mention the number of private driveways with an equally limited view of oncoming traffic - and a school zone. If you know the location of these intersections, and that there is very limited sight distance in all directions, why on earth would you not back off the accelerator as you approach to give those entering and leaving the highway a few extra seconds to clear the path of oncoming traffic rather than maintaining the speed limit because it's legal to do so? In this situation, you not only have the right of way, you are also in a better position to prevent an accident than a vehicle who has to turn into or pull out of one of these side roads and is at the mercy of oncoming traffic that they cannot see as well as cars approaching from behind. This is a no-brainer.

It is possible, and quite common these days actually, for a person to act within the limits of the law yet still be well outside the realm of common sense and courtesy.

Cops driving down the road and speed traps are two totally different things, imo. I drive to downtown ATL for work and I know where I most often see speed traps and I, along with the general flow of traffic, seem to slow down in those spots until we know for sure that there isn't a cop sitting on the side of the road. Whatever, it's not important. People should know better anyway not to haul ass uphill into blind curves.

Ok, first off, it's not the road that is dangerous, it's the PEOPLE who drive on the road.

Secondly, I find it absolutely hilarious and also hypocritical that you are "tired of bitching about it and want action" and you

pretty much admit in your previous post that you are one of the speeders (not necessarily in this location).

Here's a novel idea. SLOW THE HELL DOWN. No matter WHERE you drive, SLOW DOWN.

People these days have some idea that they THINK they are fantastic drivers and can handle their car in emergency situations at any speed.

I've got news for ya... you AREN'T that good of a driver and you CAN'T handle your vehicle at these speeds as well as you THINK you can.

You can bitch all you want, but until you YOURSELF are willing to slow down, you shouldn't be complaining.

PS: This isn't directly aimed at you naughtynurseKC, it's just your post was there and it's the exact way most people think.

They think they can handle themselves and their vehicles, when in reality, they can't.

They complain, but aren't willing to make changes themselves. It's always someone else being the problem.

Good luck with that. I tried for months to get Cobb to put one of those nifty little signs or make where our road comes into another road a three way stop to no avail. Reason given by the county was the type of road the one our road goes into. If we can't get a three way stop here, there is practically no chance of getting a nifty flashing sign on 61.

How come Cobb has those nifty little signs that warn those turning off of side streets that there is on coming traffic?

please direct me to this post you speak of. Cause I can assure you that I do not speed on 61, or any other roads around here. Now the interstate headed home to Americus well that is a different story. And my speed doesn't increase there until I get out of Atlanta. I am a very cautious driver. I wrecked when I was 16 due to no brakes...thankfully I drove stick and was able to gear down decreasing my speed from 50 to 35! But lost my dog in that wreck and nearly bit through my bottom lip not to mention totaled my car :(

Ok had a thought...went back there were two previous posts under me before the third....that was hubby!! He commutes back forth between here and down town ATL  (this is why he needs his own membership :angry2: )

So I guess you took his comment of "we slow down when approaching known speed traps" as an admission of speeding, maybe. I don't know. Don't ride to work with him. But I do know when we (the kids and I ) are in the car with him he is not speeding. I drive him nuts if he tries

So although you seem irritated in regards to speeders...you chose my post and yet didn't offer any advice of an action that I can take. Seeing as how I mind my speed got that covered. I am looking for advice on something that I can DO to make change, officially. In a perfect world people wouldn't speed or do most of the crap they do. But our world is not perfect and I am looking for advice on action that I can take to help save lives maybe even my own. I can not control others speed or driving choices. I want direction on something I CAN change.

My post is not meant to mean or offensive to you either. Just looking for some usable advice.

Prayers for all the families involved in the wreck. I am so sorry to hear another young life has been lost. And a speedy recovery for your neighbor. May God be with him.

If your hubby posted that, and yes that was the post I was talking about, then my apologies to you.

However, even for him, it doesn't matter. If you are on the interstate or not, it's no excuse. I don't buy in to the whole

"If you don't do 75mph, you'll get run over".

If you want advice on slowing people down, call the authorities. Let them handle it.

If you don't see a response, call again, and again, and again. It may be a hassle, but after a while, they'll get the idea

that you want something done. If necessary, call the PD or SO (whichever jurisdiction it is) as ask to speak to the commander of the road patrol.

Tell them what is going on and request something be done. If that doesn't work, go higher in the chain.

Go all the way to the Sheriff or Police Chief if you have too... Call your commissioners and complain.... keep complaining.

I see so many people come on this forum and complain, but that's all anyone ever does.

I rarely see anyone take any action... in my opinion (not towards you at all), most people are too lazy to take action. It's easier to complain on a web forum.

I always hear people say "Speeding doesn't kill." Well, that's right, it doesn't.

But the lack of skill and knowledge of how to handle a car during an emergency situation or driving outside ones skill level DOES.

As I said, all too many people drive outside their skill level. They THINK they can handle a car and they THINK they are good enough drivers

to be able to handle the speeds they drive... but they aren't.

I have proven to several people on several occasions that they aren't as good with a car as they think they are.

I race professionally. I can handle a car. However, I can't handle the other people out there who think they can.

I KNOW what I can do on the track, but I also know what I cannot control when I'm on a public roadway. Too bad the majority of others don't.

Until we get people properly trained in driving, make them understand that they are not invincible, make them understand they can't control a car as well

as the THINK they can, make them pay attention to their driving rather than reading the newspaper, talking on the cell phone, looking for the baby bottle in the back seat,

all while driving, nothing is going to change.

We need more strict driving tests.

We need more police officers to nail these people who think they are above the law.

We need more harsh punishment for people who get nailed.

And we need to give these people limits, just like drunk driving. 3 strikes and you're out.

Start writing your congressmen and senators. Let them know of the problems that exists and what you want done about it.

We have a representative government (although it's lame sometimes)... our representatives don't know what you want unless you are willing to speak up.

... and that doesn't go for just this... That's for anything you think the government needs to know or do something about.

We elect and pay these people to listen to US. Without our input, they either do what they think or want because they don't know what the people want.
