I used to bake and decorate cakes, but haven't in a long time and now I can't remember the recipe for the white birthday cake frosting I used to make.
It's not the cream cheese frosting or whipped stuff like Target cake. It's like Walmart birthday cake frosting.

I tried googling it, but I don't recall adding evaporated milk, almond flavoring, or eggs.

All I remember is 10X sugar, shortening, and something like maybe a tablespoon of water.

Does that sound familiar, or am I totally misremembering?

As usual, after I ask, I manage to find it.

INGREDIENTS
4 cups confectioners' sugar
1 cup shortening
2 tablespoons water
1 teaspoon clear imitation vanilla extract
DIRECTIONS

In a large bowl, combine sugar, shortening, water and vanilla. Beat on low speed to combine, then beat on medium speed for a full five minutes. It won't look like Icing at first, but keep the mixer going for a full five minutes, and then you're done!

Thanks for all your help. I knew it wasn't buttercreme, though. We used shortening; everyone loved the frosting, but grossed out when we told them it was nothing but grease and sugar, lol.

I had forgotten it required clear vanilla. Of course I don't have any.

With gas prices like they are, I can't afford to drive to Walmart to buy it. (I live 20 miles from the closest Walmart, until they open ours in July) These gas prices are killing us. That's why I'm baking an .88 cake mix with .88 confectioner's sugar icing.

Thanks again y'all.

Add a dash of salt to that frosting to knock some of the overbearing sweet out.

A drop or 2 of lemon flavoring makes a different taste when you are ready also.
I know you believe you understand what you think I said, but I am not sure if you realize that what you heard is not what I meant.

sounds to me like you're referring to buttercream

I use 1 cup of shortening, 1 cup of butter (salted), 1 bag of confectioner's sugar, some vanilla and a pinch of salt

Enjoy the little things in life because one day you will look back and realize that they were big things!

http://www.wilton.co...cing/bcream.cfm .............THIS RECIPE IS FOR BUTTERCREAM ICING. WHEN YOU ADD THE COLORING, DO IT VERY LIGHT. BECAUSE, WHEN YOU PUT IN THE COLOR, THE LONGER THE ICING SITS, THE DARKER IT GETS. YOU WILL SEE WHAT I MEAN, WHEN YOU GET TO THIS POINT. IT MAY BE A PEARLY COLOR. THIS IS DUE TO THE BUTTER BEING MIXED IN WITH THE SHORTENING. GOOD LUCK!
I USE ALL CAPS MOST OF THE TIME BECAUSE, I HAVE VISION PROBLEMS.
