  1. https://www.fox5atlanta.com/news/man-in-wheelchair-killed-by-train-while-crossing-tracks-in-georgia https://www.ajc.com/news/crime--law/man-wheelchair-struck-train-killed-downtown-austell/kfbkOIIb0KYufq0ip527HN/ A few days ago, during the late morning hours of Veterans Day, a 53-year-old man in a motorized wheelchair was killed after he was hit by a train at an Austell railroad crossing. The only update since then has been to release the man's identity and report that he lived nearby. An initial investigation indicated that the man attempted to cross the tracks by going around the crossing gates as the train approached. Witnesses told officers that the train horn was blowing and Norfolk Southern said the railroad crossing was equipped with gates, bells and lights that were all in working order. I don't have any evidence to make any accusations, however, this does give me a hunch. What are the odds that the man was a disabled veteran, possibly with mental health issues, who deliberately entered the path of an oncoming train? In today's society, there are many people with mental health issues who no longer want to live. Too frequently, family and friends are left in shock, saying if only they had known. Would you be able to recognize the signs of a suicidal person? Following are some of the possible warning signs that a person may be at risk for suicide: Excessive sadness or moodiness: Long-lasting sadness and mood swings can be symptoms of depression, a major risk factor for suicide. Sudden calmness: Suddenly becoming calm after a period of depression or moodiness can be a sign that the person has made a decision to end his or her life. Withdrawal: Choosing to be alone and avoiding friends or social activities also are possible symptoms of depression. This includes the loss of interest or pleasure in activities the person previously enjoyed. Changes in personality and/or appearance: A person who is considering suicide might exhibit a change in attitude or behavior, such as speaking or moving with unusual speed or slowness. In addition, the person might suddenly become less concerned about his or her personal appearance. Dangerous or self-harmful behavior: Potentially dangerous behavior, such as reckless driving, engaging in unsafe sex, and increased use of drugs and/or alcohol might indicate that the person no longer values his or her life. Recent trauma or life crisis: A major life crisis might trigger a suicide attempt. Crises include the death of a loved one or pet, divorce or break-up of a relationship, diagnosis of a major illness, loss of a job, or serious financial problems. Making preparations: Often, a person considering suicide will begin to put his or her personal business in order. This might include visiting friends and family members, giving away personal possessions, making a will, and cleaning up his or her room or home. Some people will write a note before committing suicide. Threatening suicide: Not everyone who is considering suicide will say so, and not everyone who threatens suicide will follow through with it. However, every threat of suicide should be taken seriously. Recognizing Suicidal Behavior SPL: Help Someone Else How The 5 Steps Can Help Someone Who is Suicidal
  2. I'm happy to hear that Greystone Power is offering this option to allow electric vehicle drivers to further lower the cost of fuel. The down side is a much-higher rate during peak times on Summer afternoons, when your air conditioner is using a lot of electricity to cool your home. Another important equation is calculating how much electricity you expect to use to charge your car at a slightly reduced rate versus how much electricity will be used inside your home during peak summer times at twice the regular rate. For over 5.5 years, my daily driver has been a Chevy Volt. The car is intended for short commutes with an electric range of about 40 miles before using the gasoline-powered range extender (i.e., generator). It has worked out great for me as I rarely use any gasoline. I have looked at the EV rate from the power companies over the years. However, since the battery capacity in the Volt is equivalent to one gallon of gas, I don't believe the savings from charging only at night would offset the higher rate during summer afternoons. If I had a fully-electric vehicle that would need much more electricity to charge and if I needed to charge every day, I probably would have signed up for a EV rate plan. For now, I'm still enjoying the freedom to charge at any time of day. BTW, one perk of driving an EV in Las Vegas: Several casinos have free EV charging stations in their parking garages, usually right next to the casino entrance. Free fuel and VIP parking! https://www.greystonepower.com/content/rates
  3. As Guard dad said, the website already renders appropriately on a mobile browser. What would an app do differently? Did the people who suggested an app say that just because it's the hip thing to do this decade or did they actually have a reason? What features are they wanting that would be better than just using the mobile browser? A mobile app requires a lot of work, not only to be compatible with the variety of different mobile operating systems, but multiple versions of OS as well as the intricacies of the slew of mobile phones and tablets. The current forum software is already doing all of this on a mobile browser. I have seen so-called apps simply act as a mobile browser and load the web page rather than reinvent the wheel. Such is a nonsensical approach to get on the "we have an app" bandwagon without actually introducing any convenience or better usability.
  4. What was the Italian restaurant that opened where Huey Luey’s is now? Was it Carrabba's?
  5. Maybe the $2500 reward is simply a marketing ploy to get customers in the store and the voting results won't have much significance. I just did a Google search and assume you are talking about Rite Aid. You can submit a vote on their website. The rules state that one voter and one team member will be selected in separate random drawings. Each winner will receive $2,500 worth of Rite Aid gift cards. "Fill out the form below, and tell us what your Favorite Pharmacy Team Member does to go above and beyond. Enter from now until October 31, 2016 and you could win $2,500 in Rite Aid gift cards." www.riteaid.com/vote

  7. This is what I encountered this evening when I tried to access the site.
  8. Now how do I know who not to date or sell to since y'all blocked out the name?
  9. I've noticed a website listed next to the recycling info on some products I've purchased. The website has resources to find local recycling options. http://www.how2recycle.info According to those resources, there is a company named STYROCYCLERS in Marietta that is a public and business drop off recycling location for EPS (Styrofoam). However, it looks like their website is down, so I can't confirm if they are still in operation. Here's the archive of their website: styrocyclers.com I can't say whether or not the shelter uses the ads, but I highly doubt that they would not still be happy to receive your newspaper donation. If I remember correctly, the newspaper is shredded and used for bedding in the cat cages.
  10. When I was younger, I enjoyed watching slasher horror movies such as Friday the 13th (Jason Voorhees) and A Nightmare on Elm Street (Freddy Krueger). I didn't really get into the Halloween (Michael Myers) series. Now, I like watching The Nightmare Before Christmas. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xpvdAJYvofI However, I did see Trick 'r Treat a few years ago and might watch it again this year.
  11. Spanish mole (moe-lay) sauce does not contain anything from the mole rodent. It is typically made with a mixture of chili peppers, spices and chocolate. Bottled versions of the sauce can be found in the ethnic aisle of the grocery store.

  13. At least two times recently you have started topics about gay divorce/annulment. Both times you referenced an article about a gay couple getting divorced and then added your own comments saying gay marriage is not about love but was always about money and that lawyers are giddy and salivating over gay divorce. This may be true. As you said in the previous topic, fewer straight couples are getting married so divorce lawyers may in fact be thrilled at the potential opportunity for more business now that gay marriage is legal across the country. I don't know any divorce lawyers but I surmise that you may have some connections and you may have even heard this out of the mouth of a divorce lawyer in family court. However, you did not cite any sources for your conjecture, leaving me to assume it is merely your own personal opinion. If gay couples want to enjoy a marriage and expose themselves to all of the possibilities that come with it, who am I to judge and say no, you can't? Who are you to do the same? Why are you now "interested" in gay divorce and "giddy, salivating" divorce lawyers now that gay marriage is legal in Georgia and every other state? You started topics about gay couples who were married in states that allowed gay marriage before the recent SCOTUS ruling. It seems to me that you are against gay marriage and looking for a reason to feel righteous about it. You might not be directly attacking the gay community, but your derogative opinions about gay marriage comes across as insulting. I would say that you are cyberbullying by proxy.
  14. You are ridiculous, repeatedly surmising that divorce lawyers are giddy and salivating at the opportunity to rake in the bucks when gay couples want to part ways. As if this doesn't happen with "straight" marriages. You really need to find something better to do with your time and stop getting worked up over gay marriage and making yourself look foolish.
  15. Facebook post by Paulding County Sheriff Unidentified Body Located on Ridge Road Identified by GBI On Friday (07/10/15), the Georgia Bureau of Investigation (GBI) Crime Lab confirmed the identity of the deceased individual that was located on Ridge Road in Paulding County on Friday July 3, 2015. The individual was initially identified by individuals on social media as Joshua Andrew Holmes (W/M, 25 YOA). Utilizing DNA and tattoos, the GBI was able to confirm that the deceased individual was in fact Joshua Andrew Holmes. Holmes was from Paulding County and had a Dallas address. According to the GBI there were no obvious signs of trauma on the body. At this point, the manner of death is still under investigation, but Detectives do not believe there is anything suspicious about Holmes’ death. The Sheriff's Office wants to thank the community for the outpouring of assistance in this case. Without the citizens assistance, it would have been much more difficult to determine Holmes' identity.
  16. A man in Texas died yesterday after lighting fireworks on his chest at 1:30 AM. Maybe he hadn't heard about the man in Maine. http://abc13.com/news/colorado-county-man-dies-after-setting-off-firework-on-his-chest/833707/
  17. And now his mother wants government to have tighter control over fireworks and require safety training courses before allowing someone to use them, comparing fireworks with other regulated items such as cars and guns. http://news.yahoo.com/mom-man-died-fireworks-accident-says-rules-too-205543867.html
  18. My reply was a sarcastic response to the OP's opinion that gay marriage is and always has been only about money. However, after further thought, I think the OP's statement wasn't concerning the gay community's desire to be married, but about the reasoning why the supreme court ruled that gays can marry. Apparently the OP read an article regarding complications that can arise if a gay couple wanted to divorce, and s/he figured that lawyers must be "giddy" at the potential increase in business. Yeah, surely the supreme court finally decided to legalize gay marriage just so that divorce lawyers can have more clientele.
  19. LOL. Sure, marriage is only about money and always has been. What's love got to do with it? Surely, if people married for love, there wouldn't be domestic violence. Must be the money.
  20. Facebook post by Paulding County Sheriff UNIDENTIFIED BODY LOCATED ON RIDGE ROAD On Friday July 3, 2015 at approximately 1:19 pm, a 911 call was placed to Paulding County E-911 in reference to a possible body being located in the area of 3390 Ridge Road. Upon arrival Deputies confirmed that there was in fact a deceased individual in the wooded area behind the residence. When Deputies spoke with the complainant he stated that he had been smelling something "dead" behind his residence for a few days. When the complainant investigated the smell he observed what appeared to be a deceased body in the wooded area between his residence and the neighbors. Once Detectives, Agents with the Georgia Bureau of Investigation (GBI), and Crime Scene Investigators arrived on scene, they cordoned off the area and began processing the scene. At this point, since the body was badly decomposed Detectives and Agents do not have an identity or manner of death for the deceased. The only thing Detectives and Agents can say for sure is that it is a male subject that is deceased. An autopsy will be performed on Monday July 6, 2015 at the GBI Crime Lab in Atlanta which will hopefully shed more light on who this individual is and the way in which he died. Through the course of the investigation, Detectives and Agents spoke with several neighbors and residents in the area. One resident stated that on June 24, 2015 at approximately 12:00 pm a white male in his early 20's walked through her yard and was acting very strangely. The resident stated that the male was jumping around, holding on to a fence, laying on the ground flopping around, and acting as if he was under the influence of some type of illegal narcotic. The resident even had enough presence of mind to video the unknown male while he was acting this way. The resident called 911 but by the time Deputies arrived the individual was gone. Detectives and Agents have taken a screen shot from the video that the resident filmed on June 24, 2015. The image is attached to the release. Detectives need the public's assistance in trying to identify who this individual is. At this point, Detectives believe that the individual in the photo may possibly be the deceased person that was located on July 3, 2015. If you have any information on who the individual in the attached photograph is, please call the Paulding County Sheriff's Office at (770) 443-3010. Thanks
  21. I don't know what the meter reader does in your neighborhood, but every time that I've seen them in the Paulding neighborhoods that I deliver mail to, they get out at every house in order.
  22. Who did you use? Any more recommendations or experiences?
  23. AJC - Firefighter injured in Douglasville blaze A firefighter was injured early Tuesday battling a business fire in downtown Douglasville. The firefighter’s condition was not immediately available. The blaze broke out before 3:40 a.m. at Town & Country Fabrics and Upholstery in the 6600 block of Broad Street.
  24. A common misconception of the band Hootie & The Blowfish is that the lead singer (Darius Rucker) was Hootie and the band was The Blowfish. However, the band name came from the nicknames of two college friends. One wore glasses and looked like an owl, the other had puffy cheeks.
  25. To clarify, the lady who was apparently using her phone clipped the Toyota Tacoma from behind, sending it into oncoming traffic. The Tacoma struck an Infiniti G35 head-on, which was then struck by a tractor-trailer, caught fire and completely burned up. The lady driving the G35 died at the scene. The man driving the Tacoma came home from the hospital a week ago. His injuries are a fractured pelvis and torn ACL in both knees. He is in good spirits and plans to be proactive against distracted driving.
