  1. Part of the learning issue is that we have taught our kids that they must LOVE what they do from the beginning. There's no sense of paying their dues or working up to something. If it's not the perfect job, they don't want to do it. It just makes me want to laugh when I hear someone say - when I graduate, I want to be on the F35 engineering team. Ummm, darlin', let's start somewhere a little more reasonable. There's alot of folk with alot more experience and education in front of you for THAT position.
  2. The issue I have with two independant tracks is that alot of college graduates need the vo-tech skills to be successful. For example, I'm an electrical engineer that never held a soldering iron until I had to complete my senior project. I wish I had had some vo-tech classes in high school. And, just because a kid thinks they don't want to go to college in high school doesn't mean that they don't need to have some preparation just in case they change their mind or decide to go later in life. The problem is that we can't predicate the future. We don't know which kids will end up being colle
  3. While alot of folks never work in the field that they thought they would work, it is my experience through scouts, etc., that the youth that have SOME idea of what they want to do (whether or not they end up doing that) do alot better in high school and college than those that are just bouncing around. As for vo-tech classes, all high schools have them. And, all students are required to complete one (there are exceptions, but still). The fact is that alot of students don't take them seriously because they are "electives" which to the high schooler translates to "optional." No matter how
  4. Okay folks - let me just work through my thoughts. I mean for this to be a good, thoughtful conversation. Let's avoid this spiraling down to a petty pi$$ing battle. I've been worried about the entry level job. So many things happening around us - 1. Contracting out entry level jobs 2. Increasing the number of jobless or disability benefits to include diagnosis that typically only our young people have 3. Increasing the amount of technology that replace jobs that young people would have done - secretarial functions - receptionists - janitorial services
  5. A friend had something similiar and it was salivia stones in his glands. They worked them loose manually (no surgery). Hopefully it is something that similiar.
  6. Wow - guys - thanks. You all have given us our first orders. I thank you so much for your support!! Please order more!! More folks!! Tell your not-on-p.com friends. Are your neighbors' yards not looking so great? Pass the word on!! Or tell me where they are and we'll send out a scout to talk to them!!
  7. I'm hoping the seahawks win - I like their color scheme and they have a deaf player on the o-line.
  8. Creative one - thanks for some patience. I didn't see the little envelope up top!! The Sound Guy - Pm me and let's talk. We officially service the south and west side of Paulding County. But, we make exemptions especially when it's enough pine straw or we have other deliveries nearby. For example - we won't deliver one bale to Marietta. But, we do take a load to Delta because they collectively by almost 300 bales each year. We drive it to Delta and they pick it up from there (most of them are down near Peachtree City).
  9. I asked my tax professional, Barbed Wire, and she gave me all the dish. ! Love me some Barbed Wire. If you are looking for a tax professional - I think she's the best as does my mom and dad!!
  10. Why can he just not have health issues? Sometimes when you hearing a horse making sounds behind, it's really just a horse (not a zebra). I know that you are predisposed to some covert reason for most things legal. But, sometimes folks really do get sick and really just have to leave their jobs. And, quite frankly, I would rather someone be upfront and honest about this than try to hang on and do a half a&&ed job.
  11. No - all classrooms do not have carpet. I know of nine at three schools (without really thinking about it) that do not have carpet. !
  12. It's hard to believe that we are starting to sell pine straw when it's spitting flurries outside!! But, it's time. Get your order in - we'll bring it to you on March 6 or 7th.
  13. I have salmon and cod out defrosting. We are doing a pantry/freezer cleanout so it's limited to what's in the house. I do this about once a year to clean off the shelves and to clean out the freezer. We will probably have some couscous with it and some kind of frozen veggie.
  14. Our custodians do everything - stripping floors, mopping, cafeteria cleaning, bathrooms, vacuuming, trash, etc.
  15. I don't disagree that we need to get the size of the government down. I would make the argument that if we have only have a choice between government employees doing lower skill jobs and the size of the welfare state - I would rather us employ more people than continue this constant handing out of money. Many folks complain about government employees not doing enough - welfare recipients do nothing for us (broad generalization - I know there are exceptions to this statement). But, if we are going to hand out welfare money to the 18 year old or hire him as a custodian and have him exposed to
  16. Those bulbs in the garden are hoping for a beautiful landscape for their blooms!!
  17. I can see at training (esp basic training) there were still soldiers cleaning - but all the regular cleaning at say the Pentagon, Aberdeen Test Center, etc. were done by contractors as well as the cooks in the dining halls, employees at the commissary and PX, etc. But, they are starting to convert back now. When you can't directly control the services, you are depending upon someone else to do the right thing. And, you can't depend upon anyone other than yourself to know the right thing will be done. I also worry about this constant elimination of entry level and lower skilled jobs. In
  18. Douglas and Cherokee Counties have already gone to contracted custodial services. My concern is more that the contract won't/can't be written broad enough to cover all of things that the folks that keep our classrooms clean and our kids as healthy as possible really do each day. The military did this about 20 years ago and now they are undoing it - they are ending the contracts and going back to our military personnel taking care of each other. I don't think this will work out for the best of our children and school employees. But, Cranemac is right - with ACA, workman's comp, unemployment
  19. It's time for Troop 7's annual spring pine straw sale. In our four years, we have never raised our prices - $4 a bale delivered on March 6 or 7. You can order directly from www.troop7online.org via paypal. Or, you can PM me and I can email you the order form. Folks, the feedback on our sale is usually great. The product is GREAT!! We've never had a product quality issue. We have had some feedback about our delivery sometimes. Our scouts do the deliveries so sometimes there's some issues. But, if we know about them, we make good on them. This sale helps our youth get to amazin
  20. I have been pondering the similarities and differences between the "silver spoon" sector that Obama wants to tax more heavily and our "poor/impoverished" sector that he wants to give more to. And, somewhere in that compare and contrast keeps popping up the fact that we keep eliminating entry level jobs for the sake of saving money and budgets in the government. I'll let you know when this coalesces. But, be warned, the more I think, the more this isn't going to be a nice evaluation.
  21. We use rain-x faithfully. My guess is that when it was applied - it wasn't spread out evenly and then polished. Personally - I would mist some rubbing alcohol on a bad area and then wipe it down really, really well. Almost like waxing the car. See if that spreads it out to proper distribution. I personally love rain-x on my windshield. But, my parents don't. !
  22. Been there - done that. If you the adult have been through the bins - then yeah - it's probably not there. If you sent your child, no offense - they didn't look well. None of them do. They kinda glance at the top, decide it smells funny, and won't touch anything. I have hauled multiple explorer loads to the thrift store for one middle school. In all honesty - it may not be getting stolen, but rather someone is grabbing it thinking it's theirs. They could have a similar one. There aren't many kids truly STEALING clothes. Your son could also be a prank of a practical joke (the belt e
  23. My son, who polishes brass just about every day of the week, SWEARS by Mother's. I don't think brasso has touched his brass.

It was some kind of confrontation - there was one group on the 120 side of the parking lot and a guy one the Business 6 side of the lot. There were about 7 cars there when we drove by, but two were getting in their vehicles as we went through the light.
