  1. My peditrician went out of business because she wasn't getting paid by all the -cares - medicare, peachcare, wellcare, etc. They use a very belligerent system before they pay and they have the state law on their side. When she sued them to get paid what she was owed - about $250k - the court ruled that under state law she had to file EACH CLAIM individually in small claims court at a cost of $105 per claim. That was more than most of her claims to the -care. AND, what she was getting paid by the -care was often not even covering the costs of the business - not including any money for her t
  2. He lives here. Plus, quite frankly, he seems to be one of the few individuals that DOESN'T want to go on the government dole. I love how folks have no problem criticizing states for not expanding medicare. But, they don't seem to see the other end which is that we have to pay for that. There is no free lunch (or healthcare in this instance). Would you walk next door with a gun and tell your neighbor that they have to pay your doctor bill? Because that's what you're doing every time you use government funded health care. You've gone to your neighbor and, at the barrel of a gun, forced th
  3. I'm glad it worked for you. Unfortunately, my brother - 37 - relatively healthy lost his $96 a month health insurance with a $500 deductible and the best he's been able to find is a $396 a month with a $10k deductible. As a musician, there simply isn't the money to pay it. Plus, as he pointed out, if he had the money to pay the insurance, he sure as h*ll then wouldn't have the money to pay the bill. He's floating along without insurance. You're lucky because you didn't fall into the gap. And, BTW, the BCBS wouldn't have skyrocketed without ACA coming into play. Part of the reason
  4. It is my belief that every woman is a mother to someone. We all "mother" all the children around us. You may not have birthed them. But, you have intentionally or unintentionally "mothered" someone along the way. You'll probably never know the influence that you had on that person's life. But, it will always be there.
  5. I had a parent complain that the troop is camping this weekend. I've also had parents so glad to have some adult time to do things they don't normally get to do. My point - you can't please everybody and how you feel about it has alot to do with perspective. Shrug.
  6. We drive past this two or three times a week for soccer practice - I'm so excited!!!
  7. I think you miss my point. Things are never clear cut in court. There are always nuances that must be weighed and balanced. If it were clear cut, it wouldn't be in court. My point here is not to flip the situation. But, to a neutral third party - one must considered ALL consequences and outcomes. And, one, in this current environment, is that parent A could destroy parent B in the court of public opinion. It does and has happen. I have a friend that gets no child support because my friend's ex has threatened my friend of a bias exposure of something that happened with a teenager that
  8. As with most things like this - there is more to this story. And, Pubby, while that works with our own children that we are raising (though maybe not now with the imposition of DFACs), a school system can't do that. And, you shouldn't ask them to, in my opinion. The fact is that if this kid is causing body harm (pencil to the eye) and/or strangling himself to the point of passing out (which is coming), and nothing else worked - yeah - call the cops. Now - was that state police officer the closest (perhaps already in the building), was he closer than local folks, was he closer than the scho
  9. Actually - I see this as a case of not allowing Parent A to trash Parent B in the public arena given the racial tension in some parts of the country. It's quite common and seemingly acceptable for those of the appropriate race to say those things to each other and to their children. And, if this is a decades long habit of parent B - Parent A has long known about this and obviously condoned this behavior until the legal actions started. Seems to me that this complaint might a bit late - if this is such a problem to parent A - perhaps parent A should have reconsidered the relationship prior t
  10. Gotcha Lookin' Good has done all of our vehicles and my parents' vehicles. I had an issue with my tinting about 8 years later - my engagement ring had scratched the tinting - he fixed that and it's been great still. Love, love love these guys!!
  11. I just dealt with this - it's a virus or malware. Get it taken care of!!
  12. No limit if it's in the stadium. Get there early though. Parking is a beast and getting decent seats can be challenging.
  13. There are no teacher generated EOCT - EOCTs have been replaced with the milestones. There can be a teacher generated final exam. And, if the class is a SLO class, then that is the final and it does count towards their grade. Most SLOs have a performance portion which is some kind of hands on assessment. Now, I'm still agreeing with you - this is ridiculous. Don't forget that AP exams are the next two weeks as well.
  14. There was a general trend to stop making kids conform to a standard. The first victim (in my opinion) was handwriting. The problem is that now these kids can't do alot of things with their hands - cut with scissors accurately, color accurately, etc. When teaching drafting and lettering, oh the whining and complaining about their hands hurting. They can't sit and use a pencil for a long period of time because they've never had to. GoGators - you are so right. It's going to be a long month.
  15. Judges can only work within the confines of the current law. They can't make up new law that suits them (though, they are able to interpret current law in new ways). This is an area that is very undefined and unclear. I can certainly understand a lower level judge not being willing to go out on a limb and make a decision that could be not recognized in other places. This area of law has ALOT of maturing to do before it's going to be clear. And, that's very unfortunate, but the reality of what's evolving right now.
  16. I have a fitbit, love it, and wear it most days. But, Chester is right - make sure that when you set it up - you tell it which arm you are putting it on. I didn't know this - didn't see it - my counts were way high because I had it on my dominant arm and I had it programmed to non-dominant arm. Unfortunately, it was WAY off.
  17. I'll pm you my lady. She's awesome!! My mom even uses her. We've had her for about 3 years.
  18. Youngest has horrible allergies. There are very few days that we can leave the house open.
  19. Tina Drummond is the best. I will be seeing her today. I'm, unfortunately, a 4/12 kinda girl, but this year, I'll be a week early. !
  20. Friends live right on Bill Carruth. They aren't getting much sleep.
  21. Just had this conversation with a friend for another friend. They use and are happy with Dr. Robert Forbes at Cobb Peds. NOTE - I've not used him myself - please done berate me with any kind of horror stories. This is working for my friend and her family. ! And, no, the school system cannot suggest diagnosis es. They are teachers, not doctors.
  22. We used petfinder to get our dog. We found him at the Douglas County Animal Shelter. Also - if you are a facebook user - look up Douglas County and Paulding County animal shelters. They post pictures fairly regularly of dogs ready for adoption. The right one is just waiting for you!!!
  23. Hubby's stopping at Sam's for steaks and bananas. I'm envisioning steaks, some kind of pasta, spinach, and banana pudding for dinner.
  24. I know it's snowed this week. But, it was also 70 this week!! If you're looking at your yard and longing for some pine straw to make it look AWESOME!, come see Troop 7 at Ingles in Dallas. We will be selling pine straw all day today (or until it's gone). Come help out the Boy Scouts!!
