  1. I'm very impressed with your well thought out logic. One the one hand, I don't like paying any more taxes. On the othe hand, I think I get alot of good value for my money spent.

I would like to add this to the conversation. I have noticed as I have read the discussions about this subject that we have alot of people that didn't participate in the conversation over the years and now want to complain about the decisions made or not made over the years. Just looking at audit reports many years later really don't tell the whole story as to how and why decisions were made.

There also seems to be a complete lack of understanding (and that's okay, I certainly understand how that can be) of how local, state, and federal governments interact, the rules and laws governing their actions, etc. One point that I've seen made over and over is that the BOE should be campaigning to get laws changed. I'm not sure that that is professionally ethical. Moreover, I'm not even sure that it is legal. Federal employees have very strict rules on how and when they can participate in political issues. I don't know if what rules govern local politcal officials political actions - but I know enough to not assume that they can.

It is amazing how much red tape is in place that controls making decisions such as buildings, contracts, etc. It is absolutely mindboggling. I only wish that people would stop assuming that they understand issues that they really don't. Stop assuming that things are just so simple. The lack of understaning on how the SPLOST can be applied to the building just amazes me. But, it is so...

Pubby, you and I are at opposite ends of the scale. I'm a conservative Repulican that leans heavily towards libertarian. I fully believe in the splost and would rather see a full VAT to fund our governments. I would like to see all taxes at all levels be eliminated and let them be paid by the end user. The only exceptions I would like to see would be food, clothing (within limits), and legal drugs. I go visit areas without income tax and I see amazing growth. I don't see that it's a burden on the poor. But, that's just my opinion.

But, like you, I think that the bond is a dreaded necessity. Everyone expects the best education for the children of this county. It's time that we realize that we need to pay for the facilities that are necessary to accomplish this goal. I'm mostly thankful that they had to ask first.
